Percy Jackson - Godwyn the Golden

Chapter 21 - Mother of the Earth (I)

At a gas station near the outskirts of Baltimore.

Godwyn got out of the car and looked at Luke, asking for help with his eyes. The Demigod understood what he wanted and gently touched the machine, and a receipt came out.

"Your skills are very useful for stealing, Luke." Godwyn said with a slightly envious tone. He inherited only a few authorities from Odin, mainly Odin's Knowledge of runes, but he didn't have as many useful skills.

Luke showed a proud smile and stood beside him, casually talking about some random things. Soon, Grover joined them, and the three talked while the car was being filled with gas. Annabeth and Thalia got out of the car and went towards the convenience store.

Suddenly, a golden car parked behind the Mustang that Godwyn and the group had stolen. It was an impressive Rolls Royce, but the golden color was extremely bright; the car exuded a vulgar and opulent aura.

Godwyn narrowed his eyes, seeing the man wearing a golden suit getting out of the car. His white hair was slicked back, his pale golden eyes exuded a royal and powerful aura. The Norse Demigod had seen enough kings and queens to recognize someone of royalty.

"It's a beautiful car, children." He said as he filled his car's gas tank. There was a golden, imported, and expensive cigarette between his lips.

Luke and Grover tensed the moment they saw the man; although they didn't know who he was, they could still feel that the man was not simple.

"It's an honor that my beautiful car is appreciated by Your Grace." Godwyn said with a polished and elegant smile. He knew exactly how to inflate the egos of kings and queens with ease. That's what kings and queens were, beings with extremely large egos who thought the world revolved around them.

Hearing Godwyn's words, the man's lips curved into a seemingly very satisfied smile. "If we were from the same era, I would invite you to be my minister, child." He said, flicking the cigarette ashes onto the ground, not caring that he was at a gas station.

"It would be an honor, Your Grace, we would create an era of prosperity and your name would be immortalized like Alexander or Cyrus." Godwyn replied with an even respectful tone while speaking playfully, making the man feel extremely relaxed.

"I am more famous than Alexander and Cyrus, boy." Although the words might sound rude, his tone of voice showed endless pride while looking at Godwyn with an increasingly appreciative gaze.

Kings and queens loved flattery from the people around them; in the past, only those who were trusted by the king could hold more important positions. Perhaps that's why every King or Queen liked flatterers around them.

Flicking another pile of ashes onto the ground, the man spoke with a smile, showing his impeccably white teeth. "Enough with the flattery, I have to thank you, children, for resurrecting me, even if indifferently. Although this country doesn't have the same charm as my beautiful country, Phrygia."

Godwyn's eyes narrowed; he looked at the man before him, knowing who he was, or rather, which Greek king he was. The king before him was indeed famous, though not for his bravery like Alexander and Cyrus, but because of the curse he carried.

The Greediest King on the Planet, King Midas!

Godwyn felt a shiver run through his body, because as far as he remembered, there was only one deity who guarded the Gates of Death, a deity so ancient and powerful that it would make any God King cautious.

As if noticing the change in his gaze, Midas smiled even more; he seemed elegant, courteous, and princely. "She resurrected me to send you a letter, Son of One-Eye." As soon as he spoke, he took a letter from the inner pocket of his suit.

The letter looked like a work of art; the paper had the texture of tree bark, and a name written in ancient Greek was on the letter.

Gaia.

Seeing the name, Godwyn's lips pressed tightly together. He truly felt sorry for Zeus. Typhon without Gaia's support and Typhon with Gaia's support were two completely different things.

Taking the letter, Godwyn opened the envelope and read the letter, which was written in ancient Greek, but he still understood it perfectly. However, what was written in the letter made him show a surprised expression.

"I owe your divine mother a favor, and as the ancient laws command, a favor must be repaid. Go to my temple and say my name, Asgardian Prince."

Short, simple, direct, and indifferent.

Godwyn almost understood Gaia's personality from her letter. The Primordial Earth Goddess lived a long time and preferred the silence of her own presence to anything else. Even being friends with his mother, Frigg, the goddess still called him Asgardian Prince, showing distance and indifference.

"Did my mother find out about my situation?" Godwyn thought, showing a thoughtful look. There was no reason for Gaia to have contacted him casually; obviously, someone had contacted Mother Earth and asked her to help him.

As for who, it couldn't be more obvious. It was written in the letter. Godwyn underestimated his mother; he always thought Frigg was a sweet goddess who knew nothing but to give love and affection to her children, but it seems he underestimated his mother. No Queen of the Gods was a simple or harmless woman.

"I liked you, Godwyn." Midas said with a smile as he finished fueling his car. He turned to look at Godwyn and said in a courteous tone. "To prevent certain eyes from discovering our political game, I have to leave, but I enjoyed our conversation."

"It was an honor, Your Grace." Godwyn replied back with politeness and calm, which made Midas smile, and the king returned to his car, which soon disappeared from the gas station.

When Midas finally left, Luke and Grover breathed a sigh of relief; both looked confusedly at Godwyn, not understanding Midas's last sentence.

"Political game?" Luke asked confusedly.

"It's nothing." Godwyn shook his head and refused to talk about the matter. The fewer people who knew about the terrifying rebellion brewing in Greece, the better it was for Godwyn's plans.

'I need to speed up and bring the Norse Pantheon into this civil war.' Godwyn thought with a calm look. 'Only then can I make Odin divert his attention from me.'

Odin's most terrifying thing was his authority of Wisdom, but unlike Mimir's or Athena's authority of wisdom, Odin's Authority of Wisdom was also called the Authority of Omniscient Wisdom.

This terrifying power made Odin able to see the future clearly and even predict his own death. How do you fight someone who can see the past, present, and future? Simple, by muddying the Waters of Time.

How to do such a thing? Again, something very simple, Odin could not see all the variables and also could not predict the results of wars directly, especially involving the war of two Pantheons.

To muddy Odin's Prophetic Vision, Godwyn had to muddy the vision of the future by making Odin look at something much more complicated that involves many variables, something like a divine war between pantheons.

Of course, Godwyn had to trick Odin into making such a war happen, but he knew his detestable father well. If there was something that could overcome the caution of the King of the Norse Gods, it was the chance to gain more power and overcome the Ragnarok cycle!

If the Norse Pantheon swallowed the Greek Pantheon, it could be said that the entire Norse Pantheon would not only gain more divine positions, but also the strength of the gods themselves would be greatly strengthened.

However, war between Pantheons was not so simple, especially since it involved ancient gods and primordial entities. Would such gods let their own Pantheon be devoured? That was impossible, so a war of this scale would never be so simple.

But Godwyn never planned for the Norse Pantheon to win; after all, only a fool would strengthen the enemy. What Godwyn wanted to do was create an environment conducive for him to create his own Pantheon. And for that, the Norse Pantheon had to be in complete chaos.

Godwyn cannot let all this make him look like the leader of a terrorist group… However, both Odin and Zeus were accustomed to suffering usurpation attempts.

Ignoring Luke and Grover's strange looks, Godwyn let out a somewhat tired sigh. He hadn't even started preparations for the war and was already overwhelmed.

Looking at Luke and Grover, Godwyn wondered if they could join the terrorist group— coff ~ the self-help group against tyranny…
