Chapter 183: Chapter 183

Now that they had crossed paths, there was no way Kairos Flint was letting Hawkins slip away.

Kairos had already made up his mind to seize Hawkins' Devil Fruit. After all, Hawkins wasn't exactly a saint.

"Captain, are you planning to make a move? It looks like they're heading straight for us." Robin walked over to Kairos and asked with a hint of curiosity.

"This should be interesting. Let's see what they're up to first," Kairos replied calmly, still lounging as his ship, the Mythic Sky, glided through the sea.

The Scarecrow Devil Fruit owned by Basil Hawkins and his obsession with fortune-telling had made him infamous. Surely, Hawkins had already divined that he stood no chance against Kairos. So why was he charging in head-on?

That kind of suicidal boldness piqued Kairos' interest.

Soon, the two ships drew close — less than a hundred meters apart. Kairos stood on the deck, watching as a crowd of pirates gathered on the opposing ship.

At the helm stood Hawkins.

"Hawkins, have you come here to die?" Perona hovered in the air, her voice dripping with mockery.

Though Hawkins had a bounty of 320 million berries and was relatively well-known in the New World, his strength only placed him around the level of a Navy vice admiral. Even Perona could toy with someone like him.

Hawkins' expression was solemn. As soon as he caught sight of Kairos, he dropped to one knee.

"I greet you, Lord Kairos. I've come here today to pledge my loyalty."

Everyone on Kairos' ship was caught off guard. No one had expected this. A pirate like Hawkins suddenly showing up... and offering to surrender?

The twist was so unexpected that it stunned even the seasoned crew.

Kairos didn't show much emotion. "Give me a reason why I should accept you."

He knew Hawkins too well. Ruthless and pragmatic, the man saw his crew as expendable. Thanks to his Devil Fruit ability, he could redirect fatal damage to others and maintain his own life — an ability with limits, yes, but one still terrifying in the eyes of ordinary people.

It was this very ability that had helped Hawkins rise through the ranks.

Prepared for the question, Hawkins straightened slightly and answered, "Lord Kairos, through my divination I've foreseen that the world is heading toward massive upheaval — a storm that will throw all factions into chaos."

"Pirates, Marines, bounty hunters, the World Government, the Revolutionary Army — even the Celestial Dragons — none will be spared. But through it all, my visions show that you, Lord Kairos, will stand at the heart of this storm."

"That is why I've come. I wish to serve under you, to help you seize control of the world in this coming era."

As usual, Hawkins framed his motives behind his fortune-telling. Though a pirate at heart, he liked pretending to be a mystic.

Still, his predictions weren't without merit. In the original timeline, his accuracy rate was over 80%. Even in Wano, he had correctly divined his own downfall — though he stubbornly clung to the belief that Kaido might change his fate.

In the end, he paid for that delusion with his life.

And now he was saying that a world war was coming — one where every faction would be caught in the crossfire.

Kairos, who had initially planned to kill Hawkins for his Devil Fruit, began to reconsider.

The ability was useful, yes, but perhaps not something he needed immediately.

"That's not good enough," Kairos said flatly. "I'll give you one more chance. Convince me."

Hawkins broke into a cold sweat. Then, as if remembering something, he knelt once more and added, "Lord Kairos, not long ago, while I was in the East Blue, I encountered a man who had fallen from the sky."

Kairos' eyes sharpened. "From the sky?"

He was immediately intrigued.

In this world, there were many hidden places above the sea — sky islands, floating fortresses, unknown civilizations. Nami had once been transported to a climate island filled with advanced weather science. There was also Skypiea, the domain of Enel.

And, of course, there was the Floating City ruled by the Golden Lion, Shiki.

Kairos recalled that it had been over twenty years since Shiki escaped from Impel Down. According to the timeline, the Flying City should be active by now — and it was located in the East Blue.

Which meant the man Hawkins met could be a resident from that very place.

"Did the man have small wings on his back?" Kairos asked, testing his theory.

Hawkins froze, eyes widening in disbelief.

"Yes… he did."

Kairos smirked.

So, it was true.

The Golden Lion Shiki.

One of the most legendary pirates in history. His Float-Float Fruit (Fuwa Fuwa no Mi) allowed him to make anything float — even entire islands. It was a power that could rival Whitebeard's Tremor-Tremor Fruit.

A Devil Fruit likely ranked as epic, possibly even at the god-tier level.

Of course, all of this was Kairos' speculation.

Still, he was definitely interested now.

Shiki the Golden Lion had once rivaled Gol D. Roger and Whitebeard. He was no ordinary man. His swordsmanship was elite, and his Devil Fruit gave him unmatched tactical advantages.

In the movie, he'd been defeated by Luffy — but only due to plot convenience. The truth was, back then, Luffy hadn't even mastered basic Haki. In a fair fight, a hundred Luffies wouldn't have stood a chance.

Even the Pirate King had needed everything he had to defeat Shiki.

Now, Kairos saw Shiki as his next target.

Not for revenge. Not for justice.

But for power — and what Shiki's defeat could bring him.
