Chapter 4: Chapter 3 What's His Background
The silver-black Mercedes came to a smooth halt in front of a modern building after a swift drive.
"Mr. Xiao, please."
As soon as the car stopped, Liu Yuan quickly pushed open the door, leaped out, then respectfully bowed and opened the door for Xiao Yi. Despite his confusion about why Mr. Chen treated Xiao Yi, such a person, as a VIP and emphasized it again and again—even making a point of sending him personally for the pickup—he was a seasoned man. Since Mr. Chen had assigned him this task and the identification was correct, he had to show Xiao Yi the utmost respect.
Even if it later turned out that Xiao Yi was just an ordinary person, he had nothing to lose. It was merely a matter of being a bit nicer, and possibly gaining a friend, which wasn't a bad thing. But if his neglect ruined Mr. Chen's plans, the consequences... were unimaginable. Liu Yuan was very clear about this equation.
The two bodyguards also hurriedly hastened out of the car, standing briskly one to the left and one to the right of Liu Yuan.
Xiao Yi slightly frowned at Liu Yuan's attitude but said nothing, his expression cool as he stepped out of the car.
"Where is Chen Jianguo?"
Raising his head, Xiao Yi glanced at the towering silver-grey designed building with the glistening silver letters of Jianguo Building and asked indifferently.
"Mr. Chen is already waiting inside..."
"Young Master Xiao, you've arrived. I really apologize, I was going to pick you up myself this morning, but some minor issues suddenly came up at the company, so I couldn't meet you personally!"
Just as Liu Yuan was about to respectfully reply to Xiao Yi's question, informing him that Mr. Chen had been waiting in his office for a long time, and was about to take him upstairs, a figure hurried out of the building, walking straight up to the three men, bending his head respectfully to Xiao Yi without even wiping the sweat from his forehead.
"Gah!"
Looking at the sudden scene before him, Liu Yuan was completely shocked, and the two bodyguards were utterly speechless!
The man who rushed out of the building was none other than the owner of the building, the chairman of Jianguo Group, the Chen Jianguo whom Xiao Yi referred to, their employer Mr. Chen!
It should be noted that all of them were among Chen Jianguo's trusted people: Liu Yuan was Chen Jianguo's secretary and lifestyle manager, and the other two were bodyguards who were almost always by his side, intimately familiar with Chen Jianguo!
They all clearly understood that although Chen Jianguo appeared gentle on the outside, always smiling and polite to everyone, deep down, he was a man of great pride and would never humble himself to anyone. Even when the mayor of G City personally visited the Chen Group to see him, he didn't go downstairs to meet him; he merely waited at the door of his office for the mayor to come to him. Even this was enough to make the mayor feel greatly honored and respected.
But now, this Mr. Chen, who wouldn't even go downstairs for the mayor, was not only running down the stairs panting to welcome this thin, unremarkable-looking young man, but his demeanor was also extremely respectful!
Who exactly was this slender young man?
A massive question mark surfaced in everyone's minds instantaneously, and their eyes towards Xiao Yi changed.
"It's no problem. Did you take care of that matter I asked you to handle?"
Xiao Yi looked at the middle-aged man in front of him, dressed in a well-fitting suit, with an attitude exuding heartfelt respect, and he nodded slightly.
"It's done, all the procedures are complete, and everything is in my office. Would Young Master Xiao like to go up and get them now?"
Mr. Chen hurriedly said respectfully, and after speaking, he looked at Xiao Yi with a hopeful gaze.
"Hmm, okay, let's go up and sit for a while."
Xiao Yi nodded in agreement.
"Young Master Xiao, this way please."
Hearing Xiao Yi's response, joy appeared on Chen Jianguo's face. He completely disregarded the three people by his side, assuming the role of a servant himself.
Xiao Yi made no fuss. Under the astonished and puzzled gazes of everyone around, he followed Chen Jianguo's lead into the building.
After Chen Jianguo walked ahead with Xiao Yi, Liu Yuan and the two bodyguards finally snapped out of their daze. The bodyguards felt a cold sweat on their backs, especially the one who was about to ask Xiao Yi to leave at the train station. He felt utterly chilled, realizing just how important Xiao Yi was in Chen Jianguo's eyes. They couldn't fathom what the consequences would have been if they had had a confrontation with him at the train station and then sent him away.
Liu Yuan was secretly relieved that he had always been cautious, unyieldingly following Mr. Chen's orders at all times. Otherwise, judging by the current situation, this Mr. Xiao was not just a VIP to Mr. Chen but an extremely esteemed guest! Had he offended Xiao Yi, the outcome could have been truly unimaginable.
This made Liu Yuan even more determined to continue, as always, to follow Mr. Chen's instructions unquestionably and to steer clear of any foolish acts of playing smart.
He didn't realize that this decision would bring him countless benefits in the future.
As the owner of the building and the lead figure of Jianguo Group, Chen Jianguo didn't place his office on the top floor like other building owners and company CEOs who liked to flaunt their status. He preferred to feel the thrill of looking down on everything. Instead, he set his office on the twenty-eighth floor, a middle level.
However, to save time waiting for elevators and to avoid unnecessary trouble, he had installed a private express elevator directly to the twenty-eighth floor that led to his office.
After taking the direct elevator up with Xiao Yi to his own office, Chen Jianguo didn't immediately take his usual seat at the head as before. Instead, he let Xiao Yi sit down first, then personally brewed a cup of tea and handed it to Xiao Yi before saying respectfully, "Young Master Xiao, please have some tea."
After speaking, he waited respectfully for Xiao Yi's response, the epitome of a servant attending to his master.
