Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Honey, You're Being Unreasonable
"This task is impossible to complete, have you all gone mad?"
In the marketing department's meeting room, the seven new employees looked at the tasks in their hands.
They didn't even know the specifics of the company's operations and sales.
Yet their superiors had arranged for them to interface directly with clients.
And these were all major project proposals.
Each one worth tens of millions.
Assigning new employees to this was sheer impossibility.
"You should know that our marketing department is the most profitable division in the company, and the commission on these big deals is at 3%. Just close one deal and you'll see hundreds of thousands in your account immediately. This is an opportunity I fought hard for you to get!"
The marketing department supervisor, with a smile, looked at the seven people.
Since the higher-ups had already arranged it, he definitely wouldn't let these people stay.
"You are bullying us, who can land such a huge deal in three days? And don't think I don't know, these clients are the hard nuts that the market can't crack. This is obviously a dead-end, you're clearly giving us a hard time on purpose!"
A young man, fuming, slammed the file on the table.
"You may think so, but don't forget, pressure is the driving force, and only a strong enough flame can refine gold. I wish you all victorious beginnings, and we'll meet here again in the meeting room in two days. Those who fail to complete will be deemed as having lost the assessment qualification and won't need to come, as the company won't sign a contract with you."
The supervisor wasted no more words and stood up.
After all, the task set by the higher-ups was to get rid of these people.
And at this moment, Ning Mengyao, who was eavesdropping in the next room, was also very happy.
She knew that nobody could succeed in this task.
"You're going too far, you're really bullying people here, let me tell you, I have connections!"
Suddenly, a voice came through, making Ning Mengyao frown slightly.
It must be that guy, trying to use her family's name to put pressure on people.
In her heart, she felt an increasing disgust for this unknown husband.
"So what if you have connections? I am acting in accordance with the system. If you're unwilling, you can go and complain to my superiors, or leave the marketing department, otherwise stop pretending to have privileges here!"
The marketing manager snorted coldly.
He exited the meeting room.
Turning around, he entered the next room with a respectful look at Ning Mengyao.
"Well done, remember, nobody is allowed any special privileges, even using my name won't cut it!"
"Mr. Ning, rest assured, I guarantee none of these folks will stay."
The supervisor nodded repeatedly in haste.
The projects sent out were those they had been tracking for years without success.
Thus, an unachievable task served as the perfect excuse.
"Excellent!"
An elated Ning Mengyao could guess that this young man would definitely go back to beg his grandfather for help.
It looked like she wouldn't be going back home for dinner tonight.
"Buddy, didn't you say you had powerful backers? Aren't you going to call them to give this guy a good thrashing?"
Lin Fan stepped out of the meeting room, patting the shoulder of the youngster who had just spoken.
After all, he was the one who had just arrogantly claimed to have connections.
"Hmph, of course I'll say it. I'll tell my dad that this good-for-nothing supervisor is worthless!"
The young man sneered arrogantly.
And just then, the marketing department supervisor came back with a dark expression on his face.
"What you have isn't powerful backers, you just have someone outside, isn't your dad the security guard Chen? Do you really think an old watchman who works the night shift can do anything to me?"
He had deliberately gone out to inquire and found out about this youngster's so-called connections.
"Don't look down on others, my dad may indeed be a janitor, but you shouldn't forget about my mom, she's above you!"
The young man crossed his arms, still sneering arrogantly.
"Are you referring to Ms. Liu who is in charge of cleaning the eighteenth-floor guest rooms? I've just transferred her to the first-floor staff cafeteria. From now on, she'll be under me."
The supervisor rolled his eyes.
"You... don't push people too far, my parents only came to help in the company because they were bored after retirement. If you treat me like this, my sister and brother-in-law will never let you off the hook!"
The young man clenched his fists, brandishing his status once more.
The look on his face was definitely one that recognized important people.
"It's just Chen Xiaoyun from logistics and the kitchen chef Wang Liang, what about it, are they planning to poison my food?"
The supervisor wore a wry smile.
Young people these days are really unreliable.
"My third uncle..."
The young man was still trying to speak but was abruptly silenced by Lin Fan covering his mouth.
He pushed the young man towards the exit.
"Bro, I can see you're not here to apply for a job. You're here to get your whole family laid off, aren't you? Do you have a grudge against them?"
"It's this old geezer who has a grudge against me. I finally graduate, ready to enter our family company, but he actually gives me a hard time!"
The young man stretched his neck, still wanting to argue.
Lin Fan said with a bitter laugh, "Big brother, get it straight. This is the Ning Group. At best, you might be a descendant of a long-term worker. How has it become your family company? Are you plotting a rebellion or what?"
"I just wanted to make a bit of easy money, but this old guy won't give me any face. Just you wait; I'm going to find my second brother!"
The young man strode angrily towards the exit, his face clearly written with rage.
As for Lin Fan, he wasn't the least curious about who his second brother was.
He just walked out of the company.
"To hand me such a big contract right off the bat, it seems she doesn't want me to stay at the company."
Lin Fan looked at the documents in his hand.
He had received a contract for medical equipment from a hospital.
If he could actually secure the deal, it would be worth at least a hundred million.
With a commission of three per thousand, that could be several hundred thousand.
However, if the deal could be made, it wouldn't be his turn.
"Squeak..."
Just as he was pondering how to deal with this troublesome issue,
a car suddenly stopped in front of him.
The car window lowered, and Ning Zhenyue smiled and waved at Lin Fan, signaling for him to get in.
"Grandpa, why are you here?"
Seated in the luxury car, Lin Fan curiously asked.
"I heard you guys had quite some trouble with your job induction today; rather than that, take a day off for yourself. I'll talk to Meng Yao about it tonight."
Ning Zhenyue looked at Lin Fan with a smile on his face.
Deep down, he really liked this grandson-in-law of his.
"Trouble is hardly the word for it; I'll make a trip tomorrow and try to secure this order."
Lin Fan didn't care much.
After all, he had many secrets that were unknown to others by his side.
Securing a business deal wasn't too difficult.
"Young man, that's the spirit. There's a chess friend who invited me to watch a game today. Come with me to meet them, and also get a taste of who the real power players in Jiangning are. If you can make some connections, it will be of immense help to you in the future!"
The car stopped in front of a small Jiangnan courtyard.
Ning Zhenyue got out of the car and led Lin Fan into the courtyard.
The yard, shaded by green bamboo, had an air of celestial beauty.
Two elders were sitting in the pavilion, deeply focused on their game of Go.
The few people standing around were all silently observing the chessboard.
Black and white stones were intermixed, showing that the game had been fought fiercely for some time.
At that moment, the elder in black looked tense.
Having lost a piece, his position had collapsed.
He was caught in numerous encirclements.
One more move for white, and it would be completely over.
Just as he furrowed his brows tightly, the voice of Lin Fan suddenly came,
"Such a simple game, what's to hesitate? Do you even know how to play chess?"
