Path to Becoming the Greatest Space Mercenary

Chapter 137 Vi’ivando’s Predicament

"What is taking so long?! Hurry up and collect all of the data! Lord Iniquus wants this material off the station as quickly as possible!"

Not long after breaking into the orbital station's lab, Kasandra, Jasmine, and Kaiden heard a familiar voice yelling.

As they stealthy approached and hid behind some of the larger equipment in the room, they saw the man that had identified himself as Iniquus' aide shouting at a group of guards and lab assistants that had been helping Vi'ivando with his work.

Once he had finished escorting Avery to where Iniquus was waiting, the man had slipped out before the battle had begun and made his way over here to secure the unfished emitter Vi'ivando was working on, and all of the data pertaining to the project.

As for the imprisoned engineer, he was currently tied up and being restrained by one of the guards that had been tasked with watching over him.

"I guess that is probably Grito's uncle." Kasandra muttered quietly.

"Well, I don't see any other Baccigans around. So yeah, I'd put money on that." Kaiden replied snarkily.

If not for the situation, the two of them probably would have gotten into a sibling spat right now, but Kasandra did not engage with her brother and continued to focus on the task at hand.

There were over twenty people present, with at least thirteen of them being combatants judging from their attire and equipment.

As for the others, six looked like researchers, while one was Iniquus' aide, and the last person was Vi'ivando himself.

"This is going to be difficult. I'm not sure if we can handle that many without potentially harming Grito's uncle."

Jasmine's concerns were certainly valid, and the main reason neither Kasandra nor Kaiden had jumped in already.

If they started things off with a few grenades they could throw their enemies into confusion, but doing so would certainly get Vi'ivando caught in the crossfire.

As for just shooting, they would only be able to take a few out before the others responded and used their number advantage to overpower them.

Of course, Kasandra and Kaiden were quite adept at fighting up close, but that would also put their target for rescue at danger. While dodging laser blasts it was near impossible to worry about if there was someone behind you.

"Maybe we can use that to our advantage." Kaiden said, pointing towards a piece of equipment in the room.

Looking at where Kaiden was pointing, Kasandra and Jasmine saw a large mechanical device akin to a giant hand used for handling heavy materials, or items that were too dangerous for people to get close to.

Quietly and quickly, the three of them came up with a plan while Iniquus' aide was still distracted gathering up the items related to whatever Vi'ivando had been building.

While Kasandra and Kaiden took up positions with the best angles on the armed guards, Jasmine snuck over to the machine that was going to aid them.

Fortunately, it did was still active and was only in idle mode and did not need a passcode to engage.

"Okay. The controls seem pretty straight forward. I can do this." Jasmine whispered to encourage herself.

Once she started the device up, she input a series of commands, and it suddenly came to life.

Needless to say, such a large piece of equipment that should have been inactive caught the attention of everyone in the room.

However, before anyone could figure out what was happening, Jasmine swung the large mechanical arm around and slammed it into the guard restraining Grito's uncle.

The powerful force behind the blow sent the man flying and left the prisoner he was in charge of sprawled out on the floor.

Jasmine felt bad for the rough treatment but would have to apologize later.

Using the device, she picked Vi'ivando up and input the command to bring him back over towards the machine's control area.

"Stop that bloody thing!" Iniquus' aide shouted as their important captive was whisked away.

Except, this was only the first part of the plan. Now that there was no risk of harming Grito's uncle, Kasandra and Kaiden lobbed several concussion and stun grenades at the guards, assistants, and Iniquus' aide.

Bright flashes of light, loud bursts of sound, and electrical discharges assaulted the captors, and many of them fell immediately to the assault.

Still, some of the guards escaped being incapacitated and began fighting back.

Lasers started flying across the room as Kasandra and Kaiden engaged those still standing.

In an unfortunate twist, a stray blast hit the extended arm pulling Vi'ivando in, and the machine malfunctioned and dropped the bound Baccigan.

Jasmine got up to go and grab him herself, but one of the guards took notice of her and pinned her down with laser fire.

While the confusion of battle had everyone's attention, Iniquus' aide came out of his daze, and noticed Vi'ivando face down on the floor around a dozen meters away.

He had the incomplete emitter already transferred to an escape ship, and a majority of the documents were stored on a data drive he had. All he needed was to secure Vi'ivando and make his escape.

With near idiotic daring, he ran with his head hunched over and made his way over to his target as streaks of light flew around the room.

"Stop, you're not going anywhere with him!" Jasmine shouted when she noticed the man trying to pick up Vi'ivando.

She was able to fire a single shot which grazed the man, but she was forced to duck back behind the machine she was using for cover as some of the guards concentrated their fire on her.

After that, she watched the aide drag Vi'ivando out of the room as the fierce fire fight continued.

"We need to finish this up quickly or that man is going to get away with Grito's uncle." Jasmine said into the communications earpieces that connected her to Kasandra and Kaiden.

Having a fire lit under them, the two Woest siblings fought hard and took greater risks to bring down their opponents. And within less than a minute, Kasandra Jasmine, and Kaiden were the only ones left standing.
