Pampered By All In Different Planes

Chapter 433: Hoarding Thousands upon Thousands for Natural Disasters, Raising a Child, I Let It Go 21

She walked out in the dark, skillfully took a bottle of beverage from the cabinet under the coffee table, and unscrewed the cap to drink a few sips.

The beverages were kept at room temperature, even freezing at lower temperatures, and now, it felt warm in her hand.

Su Zhiruan looked at the indoor thermometer flashing a red light, showing thirty-five degrees, and couldn't help but sigh.

The dense fog had lifted; what followed was a prolonged period of high temperatures.

This stage lasted longer than the extreme cold blizzard, had more damaging effects, and combined natural disasters with man-made calamities—it was not an exaggeration to call it the Human World's Hell.

She frowned, taking another sip of her beverage.

After finishing her drink, she gently pushed the door open, planning to lie back down on the bed.

At that moment, Su Zhiruan felt the person beside her in the bed wake up.

"Did I wake you?" she asked softly upon seeing Wen Qingyu sitting up.

Guided by her voice, Wen Qingyu accurately took Su Zhiruan's hand in the pitch dark, his voice hoarse, "No, the heat woke me up."

"The temperature is rising so quickly," Su Zhiruan sighed deeply as she lay in the bed.

In extreme cold weather, they could casually eat and drink at home, covered in thick quilts—aside from the cold, all was well.

But the heat was quite different.

In such conditions, it was just as hot indoors as it was outdoors. The power system, crippled by the previous dense fog, had not yet recovered, leaving no air conditioning, no refrigerator, and even causing food to spoil faster.

Without air conditioning, ice, or ice cream during the sizzling summer heat, it was like enduring one of the top ten tortures.

Even worse, thirty degrees was just the beginning!

Su Zhiruan vividly remembered that later on, temperatures in the forties and fifties became commonplace; numerous people died on the spot from heatstroke, and if one stayed outdoors too long, even their internal organs almost cooked!

Under such circumstances, death was inevitable.

Plus, when viruses and other complications added into the mix, it truly became a living Purgatory.

The terrifying part was, the intense heat would persist for two and a half years!

From last July to this March was extreme cold and snowstorms, March to June was dense fog, and now, it was July again, with the hottest period approaching rapidly.

The two lay side by side on the bed, staring at the ceiling deeply sighing.

"Sigh, I can't sleep," Su Zhiruan tossed and turned, "I might have to deal with two dark circles for tomorrow's work."

"I'll fan you," Wen Qingyu took a magazine from the bedside, flipping it open to fan her.

The accelerated breeze blew across her face, mingled with a faint warm fragrance.

She closed her eyes and felt significantly better.

Suddenly, as if thinking of something, Su Zhiruan opened her eyes again, "How about we go to the third floor?"

"Hm?"

"The third floor has fewer things, and it's well-ventilated from north to south," Su Zhiruan sat up decisively, "plus there's a fan and a power bank, definitely cooler than here!"

This seemed like a good idea, so without further ado, they took their thin quilt and blanket and went up to the third floor.

Windows on both north and south sides were opened, and the screen was rolled down.

The fan and power bank were taken out.

Su Zhiruan had stored a good amount of water for living purposes when the snow melted; although they had already bathed before bed, the excessive heat had caused them to sweat a lot, and they had another quick shower.

Once everything was set, Su Zhiruan and Wen Qingyu lay side by side.

"This is much better now," Su Zhiruan felt the cool breeze from the fan and chatted casually with the person beside the pillow, "I wish I could freeze time like this, otherwise, we'll wake up to more than forty degrees under the scorching sun."

"Freezing time is a bit difficult," Wen Qingyu thought about it, his eyelashes fluttering lightly, "how about taking the day off tomorrow?"
