Chapter 426: Hoarding Thousands upon Thousands for Natural Disasters, Raising a Child, I Let It Go 14_3
"I——"
Wen Qingyu's eyes suddenly sparked with immense brilliance as he came to his senses. His gaze locked onto Su Zhiruan, and for a moment, he seemed to lose the power of speech, "I'm not dreaming, am I?"
"It's possible," Su Zhiruan replied with a sly smile, her dimples showing. She put down her glass, "Maybe when you wake up later, you'll find all this has been a dream."
"Don't say that, then I'd rather not wake up," Wen Qingyu watched her place the glass on the coffee table and then slowly approached Su Zhiruan, "All this really is like a dream, actually, these words should be coming from me."
Wen Qingyu knew his feelings for Su Zhiruan weren't simple. Maybe, he didn't even know since when, he had developed affection for her. However, from his observations, it seemed Su Zhiruan did not harbor such thoughts. She lived a carefree life each day, without a hint of romantic intentions or anything else.
Wen Qingyu cherished their relationship and, even though he wanted to take things further, feared rejection might lead to awkwardness between them. So, he had resolved to bury these feelings deep within his heart. Unexpectedly, Su Zhiruan took the initiative to speak up.
For a moment, Wen Qingyu felt a sense of regret. Had he been braver and confessed earlier, perhaps they would have been together already.
As for Su Zhiruan, she didn't have such complicated thoughts.
The mission had been Wen Qingyu all along, and since they were already living together, it seemed fitting to become a couple sooner.
She wasn't bothered about who confessed first.
Seeing Wen Qingyu coming toward her, she reached out her hand.
The next second, their fingers interlocked.
The room's temperature was low, but the palms of their hands were warm at that moment.
What followed was perhaps the rapid development of their relationship, which also altered the way they interacted with each other.
The original Wen Qingyu might have been mindful of decorum, so the two of them living together truly resembled an old married couple, each comforting the other.
But since they had made their feelings clear and became a couple, they were like sweet, young newlyweds, sticking close to each other every day.
It was now five months since the apocalypse had started.
Five months is neither a long nor a short period.
They had been staying at home, occasionally surveying the surroundings. The situation outside their door and other areas had been well scoped out, and different tunnels had been dug.
The blizzard finally came to a halt near the end of November.
But because of the excess snow, the temperature's temporary rise did not cause it to melt; the pervasive vastness of white, and the relentless reminders from the leaders on the broadcast, all remained the same daily.
Life for Su Zhiruan and Wen Qingyu hadn't changed much.
They remained at home, eating and drinking each day, occasionally digging by the door to get a clear picture of the mountain terrain.
Su Zhiruan had her own considerations.
She had briefly learned about this mountain from the internet during its brief period of availability and had conducted field investigations.
The mountain was on the outskirts of Jinghua. The peak they were on was not tall, and a vast plain lay at its base.
A few households scattered over the plain, but it was now submerged under the heavy snow, leaving the fate of those inside unknown.
In the midst of the plain, there was a turbulent river. Su Zhiruan had encountered this river while sorting through the plot. This river was the very source from which the virus spread during the later high-temperature outbreaks.
She had investigated thoroughly and compiled a thick stack of documents and data.
Although Wen Qingyu did not know what exactly she planned, he supported her actions and assisted her from the sidelines.
In the five months they had been together, their days were filled with fulfillment.
Time flew by quickly, and soon, it was almost New Year's.
Su Zhiruan and Wen Qingyu had prepared some New Year goods at home, and Su Zhiruan had even written joyous couplets on the red paper she'd bought before, pasting them on either side of the door.
The New Year had to be lively.
"Is there anything else we haven't prepared?" Su Zhiruan asked as she finished pasting the blessings and clapped her hands, walking over to Wen Qingyu, "What are we missing for the New Year? Let's think together."
"Next, we should prepare the food. Let's make some New Year specialties together."
No sooner said than done.
So, they both went into the kitchen, taking out many items from the fridge and merrily prepared New Year treats together.
Frying meatballs, battered fish for frying, and making dumplings, they prepared portions enough for two.
Su Zhiruan had specially selected a few new outfits. She gave one set to Wen Qingyu and chose a new set of winter clothes for herself.
