Overpowered Knight: Glorious Conquests and Misdeeds

Chapter 6: 6 Turmoil

Damon fell silent, gazing at the child beside his niece, who bore a striking resemblance to his younger self.

It was just an accident after a night of drinking...

"Father intends to name Lia as his heir, and Olivia controls the castle guards. Some Tulvarein vassals have also sided with them. Without your help, I can't imagine what would become of Karson and me after they inherit the title," Penny continued, pulling seven-year-old Karson out from behind her. "My dear, this is your father."

"F... Father," Karson stammered, looking up at the imposing figure of Damon before him.

The boy's hesitant call of "Father" broke through Damon's defenses. Forced to confront this reality, he took a deep breath and said gravely, "Penny, I will help you."

He reached out to stroke Karson's head, growing fonder of the child with each glance.

This boy possessed the pure blood of House Tulvarein, making him a perfectly legitimate heir.

Damon had originally sought to seize the title to prevent Duskmere from falling into the hands of outsiders like Martell. If the heir carried the pure blood of House Tulvarein, he would have no objection.

Especially since this was his own son.

Sensing a gaze, Damon looked up to see Panno standing in the doorway, offering a faint smile.

Panno that old fox has known all along that Karson is my son.

The realization struck Damon like a thunderbolt.

No doubt this cunning old fox guided Penny to say those words.

"Wait for me here," he declared. "With me here, nothing will happen to you!"

With that, he pressed his hand against the longsword at his hip and strode purposefully out of the corridor.

Damon had brought a hundred elite cavalrymen with him to Duskmere, and they were stationed just outside the castle walls. Moreover, as the former commander of the Duskmere Garrison, his prestige remained formidable.

Even without his official command, he could still mobilize them.

Though impulsive and hot-tempered, Damon was no fool. He knew that time was of the essence in this situation.

Once he had made up his mind, he wasted no time in executing his plan.

Watching Damon's retreating figure, Penny felt a flicker of relief. She knew the extent of her uncle's power.

If he truly desired it, no one could challenge his claim to the title.

With his support, securing the inheritance for Karson was now virtually assured.

Still, to ensure absolute certainty, she resolved to seek assistance from the family of Karson's nominal father.

This way, nothing could go wrong.

Silon lay on the bed like a corpse. If not for the faint rise and fall of his chest, Olivia would have thought him dead.

"Grand Physician Panno, how is Grandfather?" Lia asked anxiously, turning to Panno who stood nearby.

"Miss Lia, there's no need to worry," Panno replied with a reassuring smile, his expression betraying no hint of deceit. "Lord Silon has merely fallen into a coma. If there are no complications, he should awaken tomorrow."

Lia sighed in relief at the news.

But Olivia's unease grew stronger, especially when she recalled that Panno, the old fox who had served House Tulvarein loyally for decades, had just summoned Penny into the room for a private conversation.

She didn't know what they had discussed, but it was clearly of utmost importance.

Panno had long resented Olivia, the eldest daughter of House Martell, particularly after Silon had shown signs of wanting to name her daughter as his heir.

Combining this with the sight of the half-dead Duke of Duskmere on the bed, Olivia couldn't help but imagine the worst.

"Lia, let's go," she said firmly, having witnessed too many dark schemes in her life. She grabbed Lia's hand, ready to leave immediately.

Staying by Silon's side was clearly the best course of action. No matter what happened, she would have firsthand information and maintain control of the situation.

But the safest approach would be to mobilize the soldiers, completely seal off the area, and then guard Duke Silon until he awoke.

Whether Silon woke up or not, her control of the soldiers would give her the upper hand.

However, she knew that others would have considered these options as well.

Especially concerning was the fact that Penny and Damon hadn't appeared yet...

"I hope it's not what I'm thinking," Olivia murmured to herself, her voice filled with worry.

Without a doubt, she had already lost the initiative.

The twenty castle guards she had summoned earlier would be utterly insufficient to maintain her advantage in the impending storm of blood and chaos.

Lia, initially puzzled, nodded without protest when she saw the determined yet anxious look in her mother's eyes.

The two hurried away.

Panno watched their retreating figures, his eyes gleaming with calculation. He then began dismissing the remaining people, citing Duke Silon's need for rest as his reason.

Duke of Duskmere would never awaken again, Panno was absolutely certain of that.

His immediate task was to prevent anyone from entering until Penny and Damon arrived.

"Mother, why aren't we staying by Grandfather's side?" Lia asked, her confusion evident as they hurried along the corridor.

"Lia, I'm afraid your grandfather will never wake up. Penny and Damon may have already joined forces, and if we don't prepare ourselves, the consequences will be unbearable."

For once, Olivia didn't conceal the truth, briefly explaining the dire situation.

"Is Grand Physician Panno lying? But why...?"

Lia was sharp-witted. After only a moment of puzzlement, she grasped the truth.

Clearly, Grand Physician Panno, also dissatisfied with a female heir, was stalling for Penny and creating opportunities for her.

The two soon reached the Old Fortress. Olivia breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Kevin standing guard with twenty castle guards behind him.

"Lady Olivia," Kevin greeted her.

"Kevin, I need you to mobilize all castle guards and seal off this area immediately."

"I'll do it," Kevin said quickly.

Seeing Olivia's urgency, Kevin was startled. The situation was even more dangerous than he had imagined.

Just then, the sound of footsteps and clashing metal echoed from the corridor behind them.

A group of soldiers in silver armor, white robes billowing behind them, charged into the hall.

Their movements were synchronized, their aura fierce and bloodthirsty. Each carried a sharp sword—the White-Robed Iron Guard of House Tulvarein.

Leading the charge was Penny, now clad in leather armor, a single-handed sword hanging at her hip. She looked martial and efficient.

"Penny, what do you think you're doing?!" Olivia exclaimed, shocked by Penny's swift action. She could only shout a stern reprimand.

"Olivia, you Martell scum! Gathering so many soldiers at the Old Fortress—are you planning a rebellion?" Penny's expression was icy as she leveled a grave accusation. "Guards, seize these rebels!"

The White-Robed Iron Guard charged without hesitation.

Their loyalty lay with Duke Silon of Duskmere, but with the duke unconscious, Penny, as his daughter, could command them.

Their duty was to safeguard the castle's security.

"Lady Olivia, I'll hold them off. You need to escape now!"

Kevin stepped forward without hesitation, pulling out his sword.

Many of his hair had turned white , and he was well into his forties. Though time had diminished his physical strength, his swordsmanship had only grown more refined.

Facing the charging White-Robed Iron Guard, Kevin remained calm and composed, like a cobra poised to strike with lethal precision at the opportune moment.

Whoosh!

A flash of silver light streaked through the air.

The burly body of the charging White-Robed Iron Guard collapsed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust. The young guard's severed head, still bearing an expression of disbelief, soared into the air.

With effortless skill, Kevin had decapitated him.

The two sides immediately clashed, blood and flesh flying as the small room transformed into a slaughterhouse.

Lia, who had never witnessed such carnage before, felt her stomach churn violently.

Before she could react, Olivia grabbed her hand and pulled her through a hidden passage behind them.

Three castle guards follow them closely.

"Seize them!" Penny ordered, dispatching five White-Robed Iron Guard to give chase.

The remaining castle guards were quickly slaughtered by the White-Robed Iron Guards.

The castle guards were merely soldiers conscripted from the common populace, while the White-Robed Iron Guard were elite knights, masters of swordsmanship. The disparity in combat prowess was overwhelming.

Moreover, the White-Robed Iron Guard wore full plate armor, while the castle guards were clad only in leather armor.

This vast difference in equipment and training made the battle a one-sided affair.

The White-Robed Iron Guard suffered only four casualties in completely wiping out the castle guards, three of whom were slain by Kevin himself.

However, the valiant middle-aged knight now lay dead in his own puddle of blood, a longsword piercing his chest, his eyes vacant and lifeless.
