Chapter Three: Magic
Salem and Star stood back at the cabin, having walked no more then ten minutes from their starting point at the edge of the floating island.
“We should split up to look, we can find water quicker that way.” Star suggested.
Salem bite her lip, thinking it over, “Ok, but we meet back in 30 minutes alright?”
“Got it, thirty minutes,” Star turned headed in the opposite direction she came from, “See you!” She walked across the tree line disappearing into the woods.
“Be careful!”
“I will!” Star hummed to herself before she froze, “Never mind! I found water!”
“What?”
Star knelt down besides the crystal clear water of a pound that slowly bubbled and swirled with current. She dipped her hand in the water, waving it around to create a few ripples before pulling it out. Behind her she heard the tap tap tap of hurried footsteps. Salem as in view as she rushed her way.
“No way, you really did just find water just like that.”
“Guess I got lucky.”
Salem chuckled, “That you did.”
“Think its safe to drink?” Star asked.
“Well it is crystal clear, but that bubbling is suspicious.”
Star scanned the pond.

A pound of clean water, despite its odd bubble and current.
+10 purification
Star mouth dropped at the scans detail, her eyes light up. “Its clean! And provides +10 purification.” She bounced to her feet, excitement filling her.
“That’s great! What’s purification though.”
“No idea! But we can drink it.”
Salem knelt down by the pound scooping a handful of water into her mouth. It quenched her thirst in moments as she drank. “Its good.”
Star rolled her eyes, dropping down beside her friend, scooping water into her mouth to drink. Once both were satisfied they sat back, relaxing as their first problem to survival was solved.
“You gonna test out that magic now?” Star asked with a sly grin on her face.
Salem chuckled, “Alright, which should I use.”
“Space! Its the coolest.” Star tilted her body, leaning on to Salem.
Salem laughed at her friends, “Alright, alright, get off me.”
Star sprang back creating a decent amount of distance between the two. Her eyes sparkled as she stared, starry eyed, at Salem. Salem took a deep breath closing her eyes from a moment, she took a deep breathe, focusing on her intent. She felt the magic within her begin to swirl as it came to her call, flowing out to create, distort, expand, compress-- Salem’s eyes snapped open as her control fell away the magic with no direction dispersing before it had a chance to form.
Salem deflated, “To much maybe? Or perhaps it didn’t have enough direction.” She reasoned. She felt something click, a notification appears before her eyes, yet she pays it no mind, “Go away I’m thinking,” She dismissed it without bothering to look. “Let’s try this again.”
Salem breathed again, focusing on her intent more clearly, expand the space two between two trees two inches. The magic swirled, less this time. She pulled at the small portion to her, commanding it. The magic twisted, turned, shaped and flowed to her intent. Her eyes opened she looked to the space before her. She could see the threads that linked space together watched as her magic twirled around them pushing them aside bit by bit.
The magic broke, fading away before anything more could be done, the threads of space snapped back in place in an instant. Her sight of them vanished, leaving her alone with just nature and Star. She breathed heavily, shock and awe causing her heart to race.
“What happened?” Star asked, confused.
“I- I’m not sure.” Salem confessed, “I think I saw the threads of space.” Shaking her head she pulled up her skills.

“Well well well, looks who's leveling up.” Star grinned.
Salem snorted, “Come on we need to find something we can eat.” She stood turning to leave the little pond.
Star stood as well, bouncing to her side, “I’ll scan the plants by the farm house.”
“I’ll look for anything that looks editable and bring it back here then.”
The duo split, heading in opposite directions. It took no more than a moment for Star to exit the treeline once more, strolling to the old cabin. Taking a brief look around she determined the direction she’d need to go. Smiling to herself she headed to the small farm land to the side of the house. She looked down at the soil seeing how it was infested by weeds and other plants. Reaching down she pulled one up from the ground holding it in front of her face

Star picked up the next plant, a clover.

Star grinned, it was a start. She quickly scanned the ground for more of the crop, pulling each up from the ground and laying them down in a neat pill. By the time she dug through the entire small, overgrown farm for the crop she had a sizable pile, not nearly enough to last her and Salem very long, but enough to carry them a few days if they ration sparingly.
Star bit her lip, unsatisfied with the outcome.

Star frowned at the final trait. Glancing over to the pile of potato’s she did a quick scanning

Star sighed at the notification. Before she could fall into despair however Salem called out to her.
“Hey, I found an apple orchid! Follow me.” She beckoned.
Star turned to see Salem waving her arms at her motioning her to follow. “Ok, I just got some potatoes over here.” Star hopped to her feet dashing after Salem as she walked off.
Salem lead them directly to the little orchid she found, a mere three minute walk from the farm house. “Here it is,” She motioned to the tree covered in fruits.
Star glanced over the trees with an inquisitory look, scanning the first one.
