Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Ambushing
"Who are you!?"
"Quick, protect me!"
"Something's happened to the master? Quickly, quickly!"
Noisy shouts shattered the silence from the central building of Earl Willis's Residence. The knights responsible for the castle's defense hurriedly approached, but before they could enter, a dark shadow suddenly crashed into a wall, then fell embarrassingly into the courtyard.
"This... What in the world is this!?"
The knights immediately stopped, staring at the mysterious creature sprawled before them with dazed expressions. Though its form resembled a human's, every part of its body seemed carved from dense darkness, bat-like wings adhered to its back, and its fingers vaguely resembled the claws of a beast.
This must be a monster, their minds echoed in unison. Tension suddenly choked them. Earl Willis's Residence was not far from E-Rantel, still in the kingdom's interior. Monsters were clearly uncommon here. The knights' duties generally involved only guarding, preventing thieves, or collecting taxes—practically never involving actual combat.
What should we do?
The knights' gazes immediately turned to their captain, awaiting orders. The captain himself seemed unsure how to face the unknown monster before him. Fortunately, however, the situation soon changed.
Swish, swish!
Black arrows shot from the gap in the wall where the monster had fallen. These arrows seemed intended for restriction, for instead of piercing the monster's body, they impaled its shadow on the ground with horrifying precision.
A warrior in silver-white armor rushed out immediately after the arrows, and with a single leap, he struck the Shadow Demon on the ground, his sword raised high.
The Shadow Demon, sensing danger, immediately flailed its claws to resist. However, the sword in the warrior's hand glowed with divine light. The flashing blade, like a hot knife cutting through butter, easily cleaved the demon's arm.
"Augh!"
The severed claw landed with a clatter, dark red blood splattered into the air, and the Shadow Demon howled in pain. The warrior's attack didn't stop; the divinely enchanted sword swung and slashed, inflicting severe wounds on the Shadow Demon in the blink of an eye until it could no longer rise.
Seeing that the crisis was over, the knights breathed a sigh of relief. The captain stepped forward, maintaining a wary stance, and asked the Silver White Warrior, "Who are you!? What do you want by breaking into the Earl's castle!?"
"What? To save your petty lives, of course."
Wiping demon blood from his sword, the Silver White Warrior looked at the approaching captain and suddenly smirked, "Your master Earl has become a minion of demons, and perhaps he will sacrifice you to monsters at any time."
As he spoke, several people dressed similarly to the Silver Warrior, also magically armed, carried a middle-aged man out of the building. Though the man had a bruised nose and swollen face, the captain immediately recognized him—it was his liege, Earl Willis.
"First Team Done!"
"Second Team Done!"
Lakyus, hidden outside Marquis Raven's residence, watched the communication bracelet on Evileye's hand continuously flash. She hurriedly asked about the situation, "How is it, are the other teams' tasks going smoothly?"
"As expected, the monsters responsible for monitoring the major nobles were not weak, but they were no match for us. Now two-thirds of the targets are successfully under our control," Evileye replied with a steady tone.
Lakyus was not surprised. The forces sent by the Great Tomb of Nazarick were basically Shadow Demons with levels approaching LV30. In the hands of Blue Roses members whose strength was close to LV50, they naturally couldn't do much.
If operations elsewhere were proceeding smoothly, it meant the five of them no longer needed to provide support. They could begin on their own side.
"Tina, proceed."
Lakyus immediately contacted her item and gave instructions for action to the ninja sisters who had infiltrated Marquis Raven's residence. However, she heard an unexpected reply.
"Lakyus, there's a slight problem. The missing Princess Renner and an unknown woman have suddenly arrived here. Should we still take action?"
"What?"
Lakyus was slightly startled, then frowned deeply, her eyes fluctuating. However, she quickly made a decision, "Do it! Capture them both!"
"Okay!"
No!
Inside the room, Princess Renner was discussing with Marquis Raven how to manipulate the puppet prince for their own gain. Narberal Gamma, who was guarding beside them, suddenly sensed a hint of danger.
There was only a flash of flowers in front of her, then Tia and Tina appeared one after another, stabbing the magical daggers in their hands with intricate movements towards her vital points.
The sudden change made Narberal's face shift slightly. However, she reacted incredibly quickly, and a magical shield instantly enveloped her body in the blink of an eye, powerfully protecting her.
With a flash of light, the magical shield was instantly shattered by Tina's attack. The two had a tacit understanding and turned to follow through, kicking Narberal's body.
A loud thud rippled through the room, and the maid was sent flying through the wall, soaring out of the room.
"Who!?"
Marquis Raven and Princess Renner, who remained in the room, only then realized what had happened. The former shrieked in panic.
The next second, Marquis Raven suddenly felt a tingling at his neck, and a palm rested on his shoulder, gripping tightly.
"Don't even try it, or I'll send you to your death."
A cold voice sounded behind him. Cold sweat poured down Marquis Raven's forehead. He quickly said, "Okay, okay! I won't move!"
Princess Renner, who was sitting beside him, seemed far calmer. After a slight surprise, she composed herself and even greeted Tina, who still had a blade pressed against her neck.
"Miss Tina, you know, I have no ill intentions. So, may I ask you to put that dagger away a little?"
"No."
With a flat tone, Tina rejected Princess Renner's request. "I cannot confirm what kind of monster you are at this moment, so as long as you make any strange movements, I will instantly cut off your head."
Hearing her serious tone, Princess Renner smiled helplessly, "What overwhelming violence."
On the other side, Narberal, who was thrown out of the room through the hole in the wall, looked back at Princess Renner, who was now controlled by the Ninja Twins. Although she only had brief contact, Narberal could roughly judge that Tina was not weak from the opponent's attack power.
I'm afraid it's difficult to take that human woman away. Ainz-sama has instructed that she must not linger in the kingdom once her identity is exposed, and now she must retreat.
The thought flashed quickly through her mind, and Narberal immediately activated the [Greater Teleportation] magic.
Bang!
The magical light enveloping her body suddenly dispersed, and Narberal's face changed.
Teleportation magic failed! There's an ambush!
