Chapter 19: Chapter 19: A New Possibility!
Chapter 19: A New Possibility!
"Damn Konoha brats..." the middle-aged man spat, gritting his teeth.
Genichi snorted lightly and kicked the man unconscious.
When he turned to look, the battles of Hatake Sakumo and the others were also over. Beside Uchiha Namiichi lay two corpses; Genichi saw that his eyes now held a two-tomoe Sharingan. Beside Yamanaka En, there was also one corpse. Beside Sakumo, there were two.
Then, footsteps sounded. Genichi looked over and saw another Hatake Sakumo walking over from the direction of the village, carrying two people.
Eight enemies, no more, no less.
Evidently, En, as the team's sensory ninja, had long since discovered that the enemy had split their forces. Thus, the real Sakumo had been waiting at the village entrance.
Poof!
The two enemies Sakumo had been carrying were thrown to the ground, and their bodies exploded into puffs of smoke. It turned out the one ambushing them at the village entrance was a shadow clone.
Genichi had thought the Sakumo here was the clone. But with a quick thought, he understood. To be safe, the real Sakumo had stayed with the team to ensure he could provide timely rescue if his subordinates ran into trouble. Especially for him, the rookie.
"Well done, Genichi!" Sakumo praised with a smile.
Genichi had dealt with two enemies on his own. One with his sword, one with Water Release. And he had wisely chosen to use a water clone from the start while his real body hid, which was an excellent way to handle the situation. Sakumo had seen this, which was why he had allowed one of the enemies to engage Genichi.
Moreover, he saw that Genichi's swordsmanship was quite good. His use of the drawing cut was excellent, and it had made his eyes light up.
"My speed was still a bit slow. I didn't manage to dodge that Wind Release attack," Genichi said humbly.
Uchiha Namiichi added, "A clone's purpose is to be a decoy for the enemy, isn't it?"
Genichi's performance had also earned his respect. He didn't seem like a rookie fresh out of the Academy at all. Just like the ninjutsu he had mastered, he was as skilled as a seasoned veteran.
"Namiichi, En, you two are in charge of interrogation," Sakumo commanded.
"These guys are all ninja from the Village Hidden in the Sky."
The Village Hidden in the Sky.
Genichi had a moment of realization. He remembered now; this village seemed to have been destroyed by the Land of Fire during the Second Great Ninja War. In the future, they would also try to assassinate Danzō on his way to a Five Kage Summit. And in a movie, they attacked Konoha.
And the Zero-Tails...
The Zero-Tails!
Genichi's eyelid twitched. Did the Village Hidden in the Sky have the Zero-Tails right now? Could he possibly snatch it and try to become the Zero-Tails' jinchuriki? Although the Zero-Tails was garbage, it still had a large amount of chakra. And as an aggregate of dark chakra, as long as darkness existed, its chakra would be endless.
Was the world of shinobi ever lacking in darkness?
As his thoughts raced, a new plan had already formed in Genichi's mind.
At this time, Namiichi and En had begun interrogating the captives. Half an hour later, the interrogation was over, and the three captives were executed by Namiichi. Genichi watched without any reaction. Were they supposed to keep them around and feed them?
After relighting the campfire, Namiichi and En took turns reporting the intelligence they had gathered to Sakumo and Genichi.
"They have another base in the mountains with thirteen ninja remaining, but only one is a Jonin."
"This is just one base for the remnants of the Sky Ninja. They should have other bases, but these three didn't know where."
"This was a trap, deliberately set to lure a Konoha ninja squad here."
Under normal circumstances, a powerful ninja like Sakumo would not be sent on such a mission. It would typically be assigned to a Chunin-led team. After all, Konoha had only rated this mission as C-rank. Now, the mission rank would obviously have to be upgraded.
After hearing the intelligence, Sakumo immediately made a decision. "We'll rest for one night. Tomorrow, we enter the mountains."
Genichi and the others nodded. "Yes, sir!"
The night passed peacefully.
Early the next morning, after breakfast, the four of them set out for the mountains. The base of the Sky Ninja remnants was not hard to find. Following the tracks left by the eight from yesterday, they soon found a valley where a row of wooden huts had been built alongside a stream.
On one side of the valley, hidden within the bushes, En performed his sensory ninjutsu. A moment later, he gave a hand signal.
Thirteen people. Correct.
Sakumo nodded, then gave a hand signal to Genichi.
There's a stream. Water attack!
Genichi nodded slightly, then vanished with the Body Flicker Technique.
In the valley, Genichi's figure landed on the surface of the stream. He then spread his hands open, formed the "Zai" seal, and immediately brought his hands together, palms clasped. The water at his feet began to spiral upwards, circling around his body. The water in the stream was continuously drawn up, and the sound grew louder and louder.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Figures shot out from the wooden huts, landing on the rooftops.
"It's Konoha ninja!"
The Sky Ninja remnants immediately spotted the forehead protector Genichi was wearing.
Genichi thrust his hands forward, and the spiraling column of water instantly surged forward with a deafening roar.
Water Release: Water Shockwave!
But the scale of it was like Kisame's Exploding Water Colliding Wave. Under the impact of the water, the wooden huts exploded and collapsed. One by one, the Sky Ninja leaped into the air, landing on the surface of the water.
Just then, fireballs appeared in the air and rained down.
"Watch out!" the Sky Ninja cried out, scattering to dodge again.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The fireballs crashed into the water's surface, sending up clouds of steam.
Genichi formed his seals again.
Zai -> Snake -> Tiger!
The water surged upwards, and a water dragon materialized. With a roar, it bit down on a Sky Ninja who had leaped into the air. The dragon's head then plunged downwards, slamming into another Sky Ninja and sending them both flying.
Taking advantage of the rolling steam, two figures charged into the crowd from the front and back. Leading the charge was Hatake Sakumo. Wherever the brilliant white light of his blade passed, Sky Ninja fell. After killing three in a row, Sakumo reached the enemy Jonin, and the sound of metal clashing rang out intensively.
Genichi had no time to pay attention to the other battles; two Sky Ninja were charging straight at him. In their eyes, this little brat was a particularly great threat.
Genichi stood his ground, not moving. His hands formed seals so fast they left afterimages.
Demonic Illusion: Bringer-of-Darkness Technique!
Their vision was sealed. Genichi raised his hand and threw several shuriken, but they were all blocked. The two Sky Ninja stopped, standing back-to-back on guard.
Splash! Splash! Splash!
Genichi ran across the water's surface, then used the sound as a feint, killing one of them with a drawing cut.
The other man felt his companion fall and was instantly terrified. "Konoha brat! Bastard, come out!" he roared.
"I'll definitely kill you!"
He roared as he formed hand seals, spitting a fireball from his mouth. But it clearly missed its mark.
Genichi closed the distance, attacking from different directions with probing strikes. This made the Sky Ninja lose his composure even more, swinging his sword wildly. Genichi easily found an opening and finished him with a single stroke.
He had easily killed four people.
By this time, the battle was over. On the wet ground lay a field of corpses.
En walked out from the forest and gave Genichi a thumbs-up.
Genichi smiled slightly, then flicked his sword and sheathed it.
In an environment with water, he could indeed display a different level of combat strength. If it were a dry environment, with his chakra, it would have been absolutely impossible to perform such a large-scale water jutsu.
Well, actually, he could perform it, but he would be completely drained afterward.
