Overdrafting the Future, Starting in Naruto

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: A Small Demonstration!

Chapter 15: A Small Demonstration!

In the Hokage's Office.

Sarutobi Hiruzen smoked his pipe, silently looking over the scroll in his hands. He had known about the Rasengan since last year, and he had also known from Futagi Ryusei that Genichi's talent with Water Release was exceptional. But looking at the ninjutsu on this scroll, Hiruzen felt he had still underestimated him.

The simplified hand seals for those water jutsu, in particular, made him once again think of his own master, Senju Tobirama.

The resemblance! It's too strong!

If he looked just a little more like him, Hiruzen might have even suspected that Genichi was a descendant of his master.

Slowly looking up, Hiruzen asked, "Has this Genichi child submitted an application for graduation?"

Futagi Ryusei's expression was slightly odd. "Well... Genichi hasn't indicated that he wants to graduate early."

Hiruzen was a bit surprised, then asked, "Then what ninjutsu does the boy want in exchange?"

Ryusei quickly replied, "Four Symbols Seal, and Konoha-Style Swordmanship. Hmm, and if possible, another genjutsu. Genichi's talent in genjutsu is also quite good. I tested him with the Demonic Illusion: Fox-Minding Technique, and it had no effect on him at all."

Hiruzen was surprised again. "Four Symbols Seal?"

Ryusei gave a wry smile. "Genichi has been learning fūinjutsu from Lord Jiraiya. He says he has already mastered the Evil Sealing Method."

This was something Hiruzen genuinely did not know. While he kept an eye on Genichi, he couldn't possibly monitor him at all times. And Jiraiya didn't need to report to him about teaching a student fūinjutsu. As for Genichi's contact with Uzumaki Kushina, Minato was almost always present, so the Anbu assigned to protect her wouldn't eavesdrop on their conversations.

After a moment of thought, Hiruzen said, "The sealing technique and the swordsmanship are both fine. As for the genjutsu, give him the Temporary Paralysis Technique. You can also teach the boy the Fox-Minding Technique yourself."

Ryusei was delighted. "Yes, sir!"

"On behalf of that child, Genichi, thank you, Lord Hokage."

Hiruzen said, "Genichi is a sensible and self-disciplined child. There's no need to rush him."

Ryusei understood the meaning behind his words and quickly nodded in agreement.

...

On the afternoon of the first day of school, Genichi received several new ninjutsu from Futagi Ryusei.

The Four Symbols Seal was exchanged for the Rasengan. He had planned to use the Rasengan last year to trade for the Shadow Clone Technique and a genjutsu. He never actually made the trade, but he received them anyway in his overdrafted future. It could be said he had already fleeced the sheep once. This time, he was making the official trade for the Four Symbols Seal.

As for the Konoha-Style Swordmanship and a C-rank genjutsu, they were exchanged for his simplified Water Release techniques. The Kuji-kiri hand seals were not so easy to learn; otherwise, someone would have learned Tobirama's version of Water Shockwave by now. So Genichi wasn't afraid of losing his advantage by sharing them.

"Genichi, for the Konoha-Style Swordmanship and the Fox-Minding Technique, you can come ask me anytime," Futagi Ryusei said with a smile as he handed the scrolls to Genichi.

He was extremely, extremely optimistic about Genichi's future. If Genichi became an outstanding ninja, he, as his teacher, could also share in the glory. As for Kakashi... that wasn't his accomplishment.

"Yes, Ryusei-sensei. I'll be in your care then!" Genichi said with a bow.

Ryusei smiled and nodded, then said, "Class is about to start. Go get ready!"

Ten minutes later, the first class of the afternoon began. It was a practical combat class, so the entire class gathered at the training grounds.

Genichi had no interest in his classmates' matches. He was busy muttering with Shizune, discussing certain points of medical knowledge. Unfortunately for her, after overdrafting his future again, his knowledge in this area had already surpassed Shizune's. This left her repeatedly amazed, looking at him with eyes full of worship.

Genichi-kun is just too incredible!

"Kinoshita Genichi!"

Hearing his name, Genichi quickly looked toward the field and saw that someone was already standing there. Huh, it was Uchiha Obito!

Genichi walked over and, following procedure, formed the Seal of Confrontation with Obito.

Obito said, "Genichi, I'm going to beat you! Watch out!"

Ever since Kakashi had graduated, Genichi was the undisputed Number One in the class, and thus Obito's natural target. Moreover, he had trained diligently over the vacation. This time, he was absolutely certain he could defeat Genichi.

Hearing this, Genichi raised an eyebrow slightly, then smiled. "I'm very much looking forward to it."

The two backed away from each other, and at Ryusei's command, they made their move.

Obito charged forward, but Genichi retreated another few steps and formed a seal. First was the unique "Zai" seal, immediately followed by bringing his hands together, palms clasped.

The next moment, water vapor condensed around Genichi, forming a spiraling, ascending current of water.

"Amazing!" a wave of gasps went through the crowd. Asuma and the others all watched with wide eyes.

Obito was also startled. His forward momentum faltered, and he began to retreat. By this time, the ascending current had formed a torrent like a river, rushing towards him.

Water Release: Water Shockwave!

Of course, the torrent wasn't very large.

Obito easily dodged the impact with a single leap. But then, Genichi crossed his hands and swiped them, and the rushing water reversed its course and rolled back. Obito was startled again but still managed to leap away from the impact, landing in the water that now covered the ground.

Under everyone's watchful eyes, Genichi formed another set of seals. He again began with the unique "Zai" seal, then brought his hands back to form the "Snake" seal, followed by a "Tiger" seal.

Genichi's sealing speed wasn't fast; everyone could see it clearly.

When the three seals were complete, the water at Obito's feet immediately surged upwards.

"What's going on?!" Obito was flustered. He quickly dodged to the side, only to see the water coalesce into a small water dragon that then came roaring towards him.

Obito hastily dodged, and the water dragon brushed past him. But the next moment, the dragon made a sharp turn and slammed into Obito from behind, sending him flying until he landed face-down on the ground.

Two water jutsu, and the battle was over.

At this moment, Futagi Ryusei was both shocked and overjoyed. "Genichi is definitely the most talented Water Release user in the village's history!"

That display of ninjutsu was simply stunning. Although it wasn't a grand spectacle and he could have handled the jutsu with just taijutsu, he knew that Genichi had absolutely been holding back.

What amazed Ryusei were Genichi's hand seals and his flexible control over the ninjutsu itself. It was something he had never seen before. At the very least, it wasn't something that should appear in an Academy student. He had witnessed Genichi's brilliant performance with Water Release last year, and now, he had clearly taken it a step further. The Water Dragon Bullet Technique was a B-rank jutsu, yet Genichi had used it with such simplicity and grace.

In that moment, Futagi Ryusei had become a full-blown Genichi fanboy in his heart.

On the other side, Asuma was not just shocked, but incredulous. "That guy... just how did he do that?"

And at that moment, Genichi walked over to Obito and extended his right hand, pulling the somewhat dazed Uchiha to his feet.

"You... how did you do that?" Obito couldn't help but ask.

Genichi smiled. "Effort."

Then, he added in his mind: And cheats! One percent effort plus ninety-nine percent cheats!
