Chapter 146: Realm of Truth
"Master Jiraiya?" Genichi said, arriving at Minato's house to find Jiraiya was also there.
"I have to go back to the front tomorrow," Jiraiya sighed, looking at the entering Genichi. "Those guys from the Mist are such a pain." He had only been on leave for a few days and hadn't even finished his 'research.' Now, a large-scale war was about to break out again.
After Genichi sat down across from Minato, Jiraiya couldn't help but smile. "How about you go and take care of the Fourth Mizukage too, Genichi?"
Genichi rolled his eyes. "According to the latest intelligence, the Fourth Mizukage has already become the Three-Tails' jinchuriki." This was intel he had brought back from his own reconnaissance.
Jiraiya's smile vanished. "The Three-Tails' jinchuriki? It seems he's strengthening himself to avoid a similar assassination. So, Kirigakure already suspects the Third Mizukage's death wasn't the work of the Yuki clan?"
Genichi nodded. "Although we lack supporting intel, the Yuki clan has been almost completely wiped out. Their strength, or lack thereof, speaks for itself."
Minato, sitting beside him, added, "In that case, only the jinchuriki of the Six-Tails, Two-Tails, and Seven-Tails remain unknown." The jinchuriki of the Four and Five-Tails had participated in the last war. Minato had even encountered the Four-Tails' jinchuriki, Rōshi, and his Tailed Beast Bomb, which had given him the idea to develop the Rasengan.
The Seven-Tails was in the Hidden Waterfall Village, which was quite reclusive, so intel was scarce. The Six-Tails belonged to the Mist, which had also been very closed off in the past. The Two-Tails was in the Cloud Village. In their current war with the Stone, the Eight-Tails' jinchuriki, Killer Bee, had risen to fame, earning the moniker "Killer Bee." But there had been no news of the Two-Tails.
Genichi, however, knew the details clearly. The Six-Tails' jinchuriki was Utakata, who had had the beast sealed into him at a young age. He was about seven or eight years old now and had been a jinchuriki for two years, secretly protected by the Mist. The Two-Tails' jinchuriki, Yugito Nii, had also been implanted with the beast as a child. She was about two years younger than Genichi himself and was certainly a jinchuriki by now. It was just that her control over the Tailed Beast's power was far from the cheerful Killer Bee's, so she hadn't been deployed. Of course, Killer Bee was about five years older than Genichi, the same age as Sarutobi Shinnosuke, making him sixteen or seventeen now. Genichi wasn't sure if he was a perfect jinchuriki yet.
They only touched on the topic of jinchuriki briefly, as Kushina was still busy in the kitchen.
"Genichi, I think the old man should send you to the front," Jiraiya said with a grin. "That way, my job would be easier. Making you gather intelligence is such a waste."
Genichi spread his hands. "Master Jiraiya, you'll have to take that up with the Third Hokage."
"The old man said you have more important missions," Jiraiya complained.
Just then, Kushina came out holding a spatula. "Master Jiraiya, you're just trying to be lazy, aren't you!"
"What? Not at all!" Jiraiya immediately argued. "I'm clearly thinking about how to better defeat the Mist."
"It's probably because the Kirigakure battlefield is too large, and the forces are extremely dispersed," Minato analyzed. "Genichi's abilities can't have a decisive effect."
Genichi nodded in agreement. "Unless the Mist forces are concentrated, for now, I can only achieve an advantage and victory on a local part of the battlefield." Of course, they could also use him as a workhorse, running all over the map. But who uses a top-tier powerhouse like that?
Jiraiya sighed, then rubbed his stomach. "Kushina, when is dinner going to be ready?"
"Right away, right away!" Kushina hurried back to the kitchen.
Jiraiya's gaze fell on Genichi's Sharingan, and his interest was suddenly piqued again. "Genichi, has your dōjutsu power gotten stronger?"
Genichi nodded and explained briefly, "Yes, it's because my body is still developing."
"Then let's have another match," Jiraiya said eagerly.
Minato, beside them, gave a wry smile. "Master, you lost last time."
Jiraiya waved his hand. "Don't worry, don't worry. I'll be prepared this time. I underestimated him last time." Beneath the table, his feet were already forming a hand seal.
Seeing how serious he was, Genichi didn't hold back. The moment their eyes met, the Binding God Technique activated.
It really is stronger than last time! Jiraiya thought, looking down to see himself bound to a cross. But in the next instant, the restraints were broken.
Outside his spiritual world, a powerful surge of chakra erupted from Jiraiya's body, even becoming visible on his skin, his white hair flying wildly.
"See? It wasn't so tough after all!" Jiraiya said with a grin.
Minato chuckled. He had clearly cheated. Of course, one could argue it wasn't. After all, if you were really facing a powerful genjutsu user, you would certainly prepare beforehand. Predicting an enemy's attack was a very important skill in battle.
Looking at the "arrogant" Jiraiya, Genichi immediately launched another genjutsu with his Sharingan.
Genjutsu: Bringer-of-Darkness Technique!
Genjutsu: Silent World!
Genjutsu: Flawless Fallen Body Technique!
Genjutsu: Avīci Hell!
And finally, Genjutsu: Realm of Truth!
Sight, hearing, touch, and smell were successively deprived. Jiraiya reacted very quickly, immediately forming a seal to break the Silent World and restore his hearing. He then laughed, "Genichi, your touch-depriving genjutsu involves sealing arts. Luckily, I know sealing arts too." He formed another seal and broke the Flawless Fallen Body Technique. Then, the Bringer-of-Darkness was also broken by him.
Just then, Kushina began to bring out the food. "Alright," Jiraiya called out, "that's it for today. Let's eat, I'm starving."
And so, dinner began…
However, everything described above was an illusion.
The moment Jiraiya broke the Silent World, Genichi's fifth genjutsu, the Realm of Truth, took complete control of him. On top of having his sight, touch, and smell deprived, he was now being fed false visual, tactile, olfactory, and even gustatory and auditory senses. Jiraiya thought he was breaking one illusion after another, but it was all a hallucination brought on by the fifth genjutsu. He thought he was eating dinner with Genichi and the others, but in reality, he was still frozen in the pose of forming a hand seal to break the Flawless Fallen Body Technique.
Minato was very surprised. "Genichi, your genjutsu has improved a great deal."
"It's just a little trick," Genichi smiled. This was an idea he had come up with after completing the smell-depriving Avīci Hell. First, deprive the enemy of their five senses, then use another genjutsu to feed false sensory information back to their brain, immersing them in a fantasy world.
This was the Realm of Truth. It was also an experiment for his future development of five-senses-control genjutsu. The name itself already showed his purpose and ambition. However, casting five genjutsu in one go put a lot of strain on his Sharingan. He already felt some discomfort in his eye.
Just then, the real Kushina came out with the food. Seeing the motionless Jiraiya, she asked curiously, "What's wrong with Master Jiraiya?"
"He's caught in Genichi's genjutsu," Minato said helplessly.
Kushina's eyes widened, and her voice rose. "Master Jiraiya was controlled by a genjutsu?"
At that moment, Jiraiya finally realized he was in an illusion. He broke free, his face a little embarrassed. "How did you do that, Genichi?"
Minato and Kushina also looked at him curiously.
"Because I used five genjutsu in succession," Genichi explained simply.
The three of them were shocked. To use five genjutsu in such a short time was truly astounding.
Jiraiya stroked his chin. "Besides sealing my sight, hearing, and touch, did you also seal my sense of smell and taste?"
"I haven't developed a genjutsu for taste yet," Genichi shook his head. "It was smell, called Avīci Hell. The fifth genjutsu, on top of the first four, deceived your brain with false five senses. However, because my control over the five senses isn't fine enough yet, and you had already broken the Silent World, Sister Kushina's real voice allowed you to realize you were in an illusion."
Jiraiya gave him a thumbs-up. "A great idea. And… you're planning to develop a powerful genjutsu that can control the five senses, aren't you?"
"Control the five senses?" Minato was surprised. "Like the Kurama clan's Kekkei Genkai?"
"I do have that idea," Genichi said. "So I'm working hard on it."
"I'm sure you can do it, Genichi!" Kushina smiled. "Your talent for genjutsu must be the strongest in the entire Leaf Village."
Genichi shook his head, then asked, "Master Jiraiya, Minato-san, have you ever witnessed Clan Head Fugaku's genjutsu ability?"
Both of them shook their heads. "Fugaku's genjutsu is also very powerful," Minato said. "But I haven't experienced it personally, so I can't judge."
"A genjutsu like yours is already extremely impressive," Jiraiya smiled. "If you can complete what you envision, you might be able to create a new school of genjutsu to rival the Uchiha clan in the future."
Minato and Kushina nodded in deep agreement. Genjutsu was not mainstream in the ninja world. Ninja who were truly proficient in it were a minority. The once-powerful Kurama clan had now declined into a small family.
The day after his get-together with Minato and the others, Genichi was at the village gate, seeing Shizune off to the battlefield. Jiraiya was also there, along with a large group of medical-nin. Genichi saw Nono Yakushi, whom he had often seen at the hospital before. All of them were heading to the Kirigakure front.
Genichi wasn't too worried about Shizune's safety. Even if the front line fell, he had placed his new Transcription Seal on her with the Flying Thunder God Technique, which could instantly teleport her back to Konoha if danger arose.
After seeing Shizune off, he also got busy. He had received a mission to investigate the jinchuriki situation in the various great ninja villages, so he began to travel among them with Ina. Such a mission could only be completed by someone with his extremely strong infiltration abilities. At the same time, jinchuriki, especially those who could already control their Tailed Beast's power, were very important for the war. So after learning that the Fourth Mizukage had become the Three-Tails' jinchuriki, Hiruzen had issued this mission.
