Chapter 144: Wolves and Sheep, and Not a Single Worthy Opponent
"The Third Hokage has agreed to let you stay in Konoha." Back home, Kinoshita Genichi began to make arrangements for Pakura.
After asking for her opinion, he arranged for her to live at his house, just like Uzumaki Ina. There were still empty rooms, after all. Having another beautiful woman in the house would be pleasant to look at and would improve his mood. A good mood meant an active mind. An active mind meant more vigorous training.
After tidying up the room, Genichi took Pakura downstairs to meet his parents. Yaji and Minako were overjoyed to see their son bring another beautiful young woman home.
After the two of them went out, Yaji said with a delighted smile, "The Kinoshita family will surely be very prosperous in the future."
"Of course," Minako said, beaming. "Genichi is the best, after all. Say, do you think we should get a bigger house?"
Yaji was taken aback. "Why is that?"
Minako rolled her eyes. "What if our son brings more people home? There won't be any rooms left."
Yaji scratched his head and laughed awkwardly. "Well… that's true! Then let's look into buying one. Genichi is grown up now. He, Ina, and the others can move out."
Genichi was unaware that his parents were already planning for the future. He took Pakura to buy personal items, like clothes, and at the same time, let her get familiar with Konoha.
"Genichi!" Suddenly, someone called out from behind him.
He turned around and waved with a smile. Might Guy, Ebisu, and Genma Shiranui quickly walked over.
"Genichi, I knew it was you!" Guy greeted him with a smile, completely ignoring the beautiful woman, Pakura, standing next to him.
Ebisu and Genma, after nodding to Genichi, both inconspicuously glanced at Pakura. She was a complete stranger and didn't look like a Konoha ninja.
After the greetings, Genichi introduced Pakura to the three of them. However, Pakura took the initiative. "Hello, my name is Hagura." The name "Pakura" was too well-known, so she had changed it.
"I rescued her during a mission," Genichi explained from the side.
"Oh, just like Ina!" Ebisu realized. "Hello, I'm Ebisu!"
"Hello, I'm Genma Shiranui, Genichi's classmate and friend."
Might Guy belatedly introduced himself. "Uh, hello, I'm Guy. Might Guy."
After the introductions, Guy immediately challenged Genichi. "Genichi, we haven't had a hot-blooded, youthful battle in a long time! How about one right now? If I lose, I'll add five hundred laps of handstand push-ups today!"
"Guy, why don't you just add the five hundred laps now?" Ebisu said bluntly.
Genma nodded in deep agreement.
But Guy was unfazed. "How can I admit defeat before we've even fought? Even though I know very well I'm no match for you, I can't give up, no matter what. Genichi himself said that the future that hasn't happened yet holds infinite possibilities. Isn't that why we need to work hard?"
Genma and Ebisu looked at each other helplessly. This guy was always so full of energy.
Genichi, however, just smiled. "How about tomorrow, Guy? If you're free, we can have a three-part competition. How about an eating contest for the first round? We'll see who can eat more. After all, stamina is the foundation of a ninja."
"No problem!" Guy agreed immediately. "Then I'll see you tomorrow!" With that, he dragged Ebisu and Genma away, not even asking what the other two competitions were. However, Guy had already made up his mind: he wouldn't eat anything from now until then.
After the three of them left, Pakura offered a fair evaluation. "Your friends are very interesting."
"And very special," Genichi smiled.
Pakura couldn't help but smile too.
The Land of Rain.
Under a light drizzle, Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan were entangled with a dozen Iwa-nin.
"Hey, we have no intention of fighting you!" Yahiko shouted as he dodged an attack. "We just hope that everyone can sit down and talk, to end this war together!"
But the Iwa-nin completely ignored his words and continued their frenzied assault.
"Damn it, there's no way to communicate!" Yahiko was frustrated.
"Yahiko, what do we do now?" Konan asked, dodging an attack. "These guys won't listen to us!"
Suddenly, an Iwa-nin crashed into Yahiko, and a kunai was plunged into the Iwa-nin's body. Yahiko froze, and the two of them fell to the ground together.
"Yahiko!" Konan screamed.
Nagato, who was dodging his own attackers, was deeply shaken. Thinking Yahiko had been killed, he instantly snapped. His red hair flew wildly as a terrifying, invisible shockwave sent the surrounding Iwa-nin flying. He then pressed one hand to the ground. "Demonic Statue of the Outer Path!"
The Gedo Mazō rose from the earth, its hands smashing into the ground. The earth collapsed, and the numerous Iwa-nin were sent flying with screams of agony.
Yahiko quickly pushed away the Iwa-nin he had accidentally stabbed and leaped to the crazed Nagato's side, grabbing him. "Nagato, calm down! That's enough!"
Konan rushed over, and together they managed to wake Nagato up. They then quickly retreated.
After they left, the Iwa-nin all reverted to their original forms. Danzō appeared with Aburame Ryūma, looking at the retreating figures of Nagato's group. "So this is the power of the Rinnegan. It truly is powerful."
"Lord Danzō, what should we do next?" Ryūma asked.
"That power cannot be allowed to fall into Hanzō's hands," Danzō said. With the stalemate against Iwagakure, Hanzō was already planning to clean up the Land of Rain, using peaceful means to bring the various ninja organizations under his control and strengthen his own forces. This was temporarily beneficial to Konoha, as they needed Hanzō to help them fight Iwa. But after witnessing the power of the Rinnegan, Danzō would absolutely not allow the Akatsuki to fall into Hanzō's hands. It was unacceptable, both for his personal interests and for Konoha's.
"Let's go." Danzō left with his Root ninja.
After they were gone, a White Zetsu emerged from the ground. "Looks like there's trouble. Nagato is being targeted by Konoha. I must let Lord Madara know at once."
White Zetsu had constructed a vast underground network, and information traveled very quickly. Before long, Madara Uchiha received the report.
"Lord Madara, should we intervene?" Aloe White Zetsu asked, looking at the silent Madara.
"There's no need," Madara said flatly.
"That guy Danzō is very cunning. Nagato and the others are surely no match for him. If the complete Rinnegan is taken, it would be bad."
"Don't worry," Madara said scornfully. "A man like Danzō is not worthy of taking the Rinnegan." He had long foreseen the Akatsuki's situation. A flock of sheep in a land surrounded by wolves—their fate was already sealed. As for the Rinnegan, Madara wasn't worried at all. No one had the strength to take it, unless Nagato sought death himself. So, he didn't intervene, just had Zetsu keep an eye on them.
"Next comes the story of the sheep turning into a wolf," Madara said with a hint of anticipation.
While Danzō was busy making enemies for Konoha in the Land of Rain, back in the village, Genichi was lost in his training. And Pakura was witnessing firsthand that his achievements were not obtained for no reason.
That evening, Pakura met Uzumaki Ina. There was another woman in the house, a beautiful one at that, but Ina didn't feel any hostility toward her. Instead, she felt sympathy for Pakura and tried her best to help her fit in. The warmth of Genichi's parents and Ina was a bit of a surprise to Pakura, but it also gave her a sense of peace late at night.
The next day.
When Genichi arrived at Ichiraku Ramen, Might Guy was already slumped over the table, weak from hunger. From noon yesterday until now, he hadn't eaten a single thing. Most importantly, he had still maintained his high-intensity physical training yesterday afternoon and this morning.
"Genichi, you're finally here! Let's start! I can't wait any longer!" Seeing Genichi, Guy was instantly revived.
"Is it your stomach that can't wait?" Genma retorted.
Genichi chuckled. He then saw that it wasn't just Guy's team of three; Asuma Sarutobi, Kurenai Yūhi, and Aoba Yamashiro were also there. Plus himself, Ina, Shizune who was back from the battlefield, and Pakura, it was quite a lively gathering.
After saying hello, Genichi pulled Shizune to a seat and then shouted, "Let's begin!"
The eating contest officially started. Everyone sat in a row and began to eat and drink furiously. One bowl after another, the stacks of empty bowls beside each person grew rapidly.
Ebisu was the first to fall. He couldn't take it after sixteen bowls and almost had to be sent to the hospital. He swore he would never eat Ichiraku Ramen again this year. The second to fall was Kurenai. Then Genma, Aoba, and Shizune.
Genichi ate at a leisurely pace, but the number of bowls beside him increased just as quickly. Guy started off with a ferocious pace but soon slowed down, forcing the noodles into his mouth. After twenty bowls, Asuma also couldn't eat anymore and retired. Next was Ina at twenty-four bowls. Then Pakura at twenty-five.
Finally, only Might Guy and Genichi were left.
"That guy Genichi is really… a monster," Ebisu couldn't help but comment, looking at the completely unfazed Genichi.
Asuma, Kurenai, and the others all nodded in agreement.
"I can't…" Might Guy couldn't eat another bite. He covered his mouth to keep from throwing up. He had already eaten thirty bowls.
Genichi calmly put down his chopsticks. Thirty-two bowls.
His expression said it all: Not a single one of you is a worthy opponent.
After paying the bill, they all strolled over to Genichi's family's dango shop to sit and chat. Because of the war, it had been a long time since they had all gathered together.
After chatting for a while and digesting some of their food, Guy, fully recovered, challenged Genichi to an arm-wrestling match. And so, the second competition of the day began.
Unfortunately, it was the same result. Not a single one of them was a worthy opponent. Genichi's body was now incredibly strong. Even without using his monstrous strength, his power was astonishing.
"Mind if I join in?" Just as they were about to finish, a voice rang out.
Everyone looked and saw that Tsunade had appeared in the shop at some point.
"Lady Tsunade!" everyone greeted her.
Tsunade waved her hand, then walked straight over to Genichi and sat down, extending her hand. "Let's go."
Genichi extended his own hand and smiled. "Then I won't be polite. Be careful, Lady Tsunade, I'm very strong."
Tsunade pursed her lips. "Beat me first, then talk." Trying to compete with me in strength? She began to exert her power, intending to defeat him with absolute force. But soon, her expression changed slightly. Genichi's hand didn't move an inch.
When did this little bastard get so strong? Tsunade was shocked and uncertain. She gradually increased her strength until she was at her maximum, but she still couldn't budge him. Damn brat! She huffed to herself and began to use her monstrous strength.
Genichi felt it and immediately used his own. If he didn't, he definitely wouldn't be able to hold on.
For a moment, the table creaked, but the two of them were evenly matched. The onlookers were greatly shocked. It was one thing for Genichi to beat them; after all, none of them were power types. Even Guy, a taijutsu specialist, wasn't known for his raw strength. But Tsunade's monstrous strength was legendary. To see them evenly matched now, how could they not be surprised?
"I really don't know what Genichi isn't good at," Kurenai whispered to Asuma.
At the table, Genichi and Tsunade were in a stalemate. Beads of sweat began to form on both their foreheads. Suddenly, with a bang, Genichi's hand was slammed down by Tsunade.
"As expected of you, Lady Tsunade. I lose," Genichi said with a smile, admitting defeat.
"You're already very good," Tsunade nodded coolly. But inwardly, she was shocked. This little bastard… his strength has actually surpassed mine!
That evening, in the hospital lab.
Tsunade glanced at Genichi, who was observing Hashirama's cells, and asked nonchalantly, "What's the deal with that 'Hagura' girl?"
Without looking up, Genichi replied, "She's Pakura of the Scorch Release from the Sand Village."
"How did she end up here?" Tsunade was surprised.
"The Sand Village used her as a sacrifice to make peace with the Mist," Genichi said. "I brought her back during a mission."
Tsunade was thoughtful but didn't ask any more questions. There was definitely more to the story, but she wasn't interested in knowing right now. She changed the subject. "Is it alright for your body to maintain such high cell activity?"
Genichi looked up from the microscope and smiled. "No problem. And there are quite a few benefits. At least for now, it does seem to promote cell growth. Of course, considering my body is still developing, it will take more time, and more samples."
Still developing… Tsunade glanced at him and couldn't help but think to herself, What a little monster. Genichi had grown up right under her nose, to this unbelievable extent.
As she was thinking this, she said, "I'll perfect that technique as soon as possible, so Shizune and Ina can start practicing it too. But the prerequisite is that they have to master the Yin Seal first."
Practicing the Yin Seal required extremely fine chakra control. Although medical-nin were generally skilled in this, the Yin Seal's requirements were even higher. Not every medical-nin could do it. Of course, Tsunade felt that both Shizune and Ina had the potential.
Genichi knew that in the original timeline, Shizune had not mastered it. Considering that her mastery of monstrous strength was also lacking, he said, "I'll supervise them. By the way, is the Art of Pyo having any effect?"
"Some," Tsunade nodded slightly. "But I can't maintain it for a long time."
"That requires sufficient understanding," Genichi smiled.
Tsunade nodded, then said, "Speaking of which, wouldn't it be better to call it the 'Pyo Secret Art'? What's with 'Art of Pyo'? You're just like that guy Minato, always coming up with weird names."
Genichi was suddenly embarrassed.
