Chapter 123: The Power of Ice Release, the Kaguya Clan Enters the War

Yagura could be called the most tragic Mizukage, perhaps even the most tragic of all the Kage—even more tragic than the Third Kazekage, whose corpse was made into a puppet. To think that a jinchuriki of the Three-Tails could be controlled by genjutsu. Although the Fourth Mizukage was not a perfect jinchuriki, he was still able to forcibly use the Tailed Beast's power, similar to Naruto's initial Nine-Tails Chakra Mode.

Such a figure was certainly not weak. At the very least, while Kushina Uzumaki could suppress the Nine-Tails, she couldn't utilize its power. But then again, the Three-Tails and a complete Nine-Tails were not comparable at all.

Controlling a jinchuriki with genjutsu is no easy task, even an imperfect one, Genichi thought. The genjutsu of the Mangekyō Sharingan is on another level, even if its specific dōjutsu isn't genjutsu-based. My own genjutsu abilities aren't at that level yet. However, my genjutsu is primarily offensive, not focused on control, so I can't say for sure that it's weaker than a Mangekyō's.

The abilities of the Sharingan, especially the Mangekyō, were about more than just genjutsu. Trying to make a direct comparison without considering the user seemed meaningless.

Pushing the thoughts aside, Genichi first created a clone to stand guard outside and perform periodic sensory sweeps, while his real body entered Jiraiya's tent.

Sitting cross-legged, Genichi clasped his hands and lowered his eyes. Inside his body, a massive amount of chakra was refined and then underwent the Ice Release nature transformation, forming brand-new Ice Release chakra. Under his control, this immense chakra enveloped every single cell in his body, causing him to be shrouded in an ice-blue glow.

At this moment, Genichi could clearly feel every one of his cells cheering, actively adapting to this new power and drawing energy from it. His cells were growing, his genes undergoing a subtle change. The information of Ice Release was being integrated into his genetic code.

Although he didn't feel a significant increase in his physical stamina from this change, his intuition told him that this was just the beginning. Mastering Ice Release might not directly elevate his chakra ceiling by a whole level, but a change at the genetic level, the integration of a new power, would definitely change his physical constitution and… increase his potential! Based on the current changes, and with his own knowledge, Genichi was certain this deduction was correct.

"In other words, while mastering Ice Release won't immediately bring an increase in my stamina and chakra limit, I can still achieve that increase as I tap into my new potential. Especially since I'm still in my body's growth period, the increase in potential might be beyond imagination."

Genichi silently experienced the sensation, a feeling of pure bliss that permeated him from his body to his soul.

Outside the tent, Uzumaki Ina suddenly opened her eyes and looked at the tent with some confusion. "Why does Lord Genichi's chakra feel different? There's a… cold feeling to it."

Time ticked by. Darkness gradually swallowed the light as night fell. But the battle between Konoha and Kirigakure was still ongoing. The civilians in the towns had hidden themselves away while ninja fought to the death in the darkness. In the forest, flashes of fire would occasionally light up the night, accompanied by terrifying explosions, from either ninjutsu or triggered traps.

Kirigakure's offensive was extremely fierce, especially the ninja of the Kaguya clan, who charged at the very front, indulging in the pleasure of war and slaughter as if battle was the only proof of their existence. Or rather, battle was their reason for living. The flickering firelight illuminated their crazed faces.

Somewhere in the forest, on another battlefield.

Uchiha Tekka, his three-tomoe Sharingan active, danced in the night with his ninja sword in hand, displaying a masterful art as he reaped one life after another.

"Watch out, that guy's an Uchiha! You have to attack him from behind!"

"A three-tomoe! It'll take at least three of us to surround him!" a Mist-nin shouted, warning his comrades.

"The Sharingan? Heh, that should make for a fine collector's item!" Kaguya Iwaki, having just finished off an enemy, flicked the blood from his bone sword and charged toward Uchiha Tekka. At the same time, two other Mist-nin charged him from the flanks.

One against three.

Uchiha Tekka showed no sign of retreat, his crimson eyes filled with nothing but fighting spirit. He bit down on his ninja sword, his hands pulling shuriken from his pouch and flinging them out at high speed, imperceptibly weaving a net. He leaped and jumped, pulling the steel wires taut, and the enemy on his left was ensnared.

Twisting his body three and a half times in mid-air, Tekka dodged an enemy's attack and formed a one-handed seal.

BOOM!

Fire erupted into the sky, and a Mist-nin was blown to pieces. Amidst the billowing smoke and dust, Tekka landed on the ground and was immediately caught in a pincer attack from the remaining two ninja.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Sparks flew. Sword against sword, sword against bone, the blades clashed at high speed, leaving a blur of afterimages.

Uchiha Tekka suddenly activated a genjutsu, freezing one of the Mist-nin in place.

"Die!" Kaguya Iwaki laughed ferociously, leaving his front wide open as he attacked Tekka with reckless abandon, as if going for a mutual kill.

A look of scorn appeared on Tekka's face. He dodged the attack and sliced his sword horizontally toward Iwaki's chest. This blow would surely inflict a severe wound.

However, Iwaki's smile only grew more ferocious and terrifying.

CLANG!

From Iwaki's chest, two bone spurs shot through his clothes, blocking Tekka's ninja sword.

Tekka's pupils constricted, and he immediately retreated.

Riiip!

The crossed bone blades sliced through the clothes on Tekka's chest and abdomen, and blood began to flow.

This guy can even grow bone spurs from his chest! Tekka looked down at the wound. Thankfully, it was only a flesh wound; he hadn't been disemboweled.

Across from him, Kaguya Iwaki licked the blood from his bone spurs and charged again, not even bothering to help his comrade break free from the genjutsu.

On another, more distant battlefield, a Hyūga clan ninja was also facing an attack from two enemies. Many similar battles were taking place.

In just one hour, two of Konoha's defensive lines had collapsed. The surviving Konoha ninja quickly retreated to reinforce the lines behind them. A continuous stream of wounded was also being transported from the front to the medical corps' camp. Although some ninja squads had their own medical-nin, they were very few and could only provide battlefield first aid. Minor injuries were manageable, but severely wounded ninja had to be sent to the medical camp to receive effective treatment.

The Hidden Leaf Village, Hokage's Tower.

Although it was late at night, the tower was still brightly lit. Hiruzen Sarutobi smoked his pipe, looking at the intelligence that had just been sent back from the battlefield. The first three defensive lines had been broken. Although the large-scale fighting had stopped for now, Kirigakure's intelligence teams had become active again, continuously probing the weak points of Konoha's rear lines and harassing the ninja.

Besides the battle reports, there was also a request for reinforcements from Jiraiya. He needed more troops. The battlefield was too large, and it was impossible to completely block the Mist-nin.

Hiruzen exhaled a puff of smoke and put down the report, deep in thought. Konoha was not only at war with Kirigakure now; clashes with Kumogakure were also becoming more intense, and war was inevitable. Then there was the intel Danzō had sent back from the Land of Rain. Iwagakure's offensive against Sunagakure was advancing triumphantly. Rasa had led his men to break the blockade and leave the Land of Rain, and now Iwa's forces there were very strong.

Most importantly, Iwagakure had not committed these forces to the war in the Land of Wind. Were they planning to attack Amegakure? Hiruzen wasn't that naive. Iwagakure had already begun to eliminate the forces of other factions within the Land of Rain. Danzō asserted that an Iwagakure attack on Konoha was imminent.

Hiruzen trusted Danzō's judgment, and he trusted his own intuition. Therefore, he had to establish a defensive force on the western border of the Land of Fire to guard against Iwagakure. He also had to consider Kumogakure. And he still had to keep a mobile force in reserve.

"Sigh…"

Hiruzen sighed, then had to make a difficult decision. He would have to send Asuma's generation of chūnin and genin to the battlefield, to the eastern Land of Fire to build up the defense-in-depth. But they alone were not enough. These seedlings who had not yet matured could not be thrown onto the front lines.

Hiruzen summoned an Anbu and gave an order. "Go and ask Uchiha Fugaku to come here." He needed to pull a batch of Uchiha clan ninja to reinforce the Kirigakure front.

After making the decision, while waiting for Fugaku, Hiruzen began to finalize the reinforcement list. Asuma Sarutobi's squad. The medical-nin Shizune. Might Guy's squad…

"Captain, I want to go to the medical corps and help." Uzumaki Ina asked the shadow clone Genichi had left behind.

The clone thought for a moment, then nodded. "Go ahead."

The masked Ina's face broke into a smile. "Yes, sir!" She leaped away.

Gekkō Ryūfū, who had already rested, couldn't help but ask, "Captain, are we just going to wait like this?"

The clone nodded. "Everyone has a different role to play. Don't be impatient, Ryūfū. Of course, if you had as much chakra as Ina, I'd be willing to take you to the front lines now."

Ryūfū nodded helplessly.

Sarutobi Mikage then said, "Captain, what if the Mist-nin don't break through our lines?"

The clone smiled. "That would be for the best. Master Jiraiya will give us our orders then. The most important thing for you all now is to rest and conserve your strength, ready to fight at a moment's notice."

Mikage nodded, and his heart settled. Akimichi Tōdō, however, remained silent, as steadfast and unshakable as his large frame.

The night passed without incident.

At the crack of dawn, inside the tent, Genichi ended his unique training session. He ate a military rations pill, drank some water, and then got up and went outside. After dispelling the shadow clone, he turned to look at Ina, who was sleeping against a tree. He knew she had been busy at the medical tent all night and had only returned to rest half an hour ago.

Yin Seal, Release!

Genichi released his Yin Seal, and a massive amount of chakra surged out. He then formed a hand seal.

Poof! Poof! Poof!

Three shadow clones appeared and then vanished with the Body Flicker Technique, heading straight for the front lines. He was tired of just sitting and waiting! Besides, he needed to re-accumulate the chakra in his Yin Seal, this time as Yin-natured chakra.
