Sarutobi Hiruzen did not reveal himself. Instead, he returned to the Hokage's Office.
After a moment of contemplation, he issued a command: "Have Minato come see me!"
A quarter of an hour later, Minato Namikaze knocked and entered. "Lord Third!"
"Ah, Minato." Hiruzen looked up, his expression gentle. "How is the development of your new jutsu coming along?"
Minato was startled for a moment, then replied, "I'm still in the trial phase. I haven't found a good breakthrough point yet."
Hiruzen nodded, then asked, "Minato, have you heard about the genius who has recently appeared at the Academy?"
"Uh..." Minato looked a little embarrassed. "Well... I've been so busy developing my new jutsu that I haven't been paying attention."
"Lord Hokage, has a new student graduated early?" Minato assumed Hiruzen wanted him to lead a new team.
Hiruzen said, "Someone has indeed graduated early. It was Sakumo's son, Kakashi. You should know him."
"But I'm not talking about him. I'm talking about Kinoshita Genichi, a genius at the Academy on par with Kakashi."
Kinoshita Genichi? It was the first time Minato had heard the name.
Hiruzen continued, "Minato, this child has developed a new jutsu. Perhaps it could give you some inspiration."
He didn't explain any further. And while Minato found it incredible, he also knew Hiruzen would never joke about such a thing. He immediately nodded. "I understand."
Hiruzen said, "Go find Ryusei."
"Yes!" Minato nodded, bowed respectfully, and then vanished from the office in an instant.
Outside the Hokage's building, Minato pondered for a moment before finding Futagi Ryusei.
On the other side of the village.
At the dango shop, Kinoshita Genichi was helping his parents serve customers. Before he knew it, it was almost noon.
Suddenly, Genichi looked up and saw two figures at the entrance. He froze.
Minato Namikaze!
In an instant, Genichi understood what was happening. He hurried outside. "Ryusei-sensei, are you here for dango?"
"And this senpai is...?" Genichi pretended not to recognize Minato.
Futagi Ryusei smiled. "We're not here for dango. We have some business with you."
"This is Jonin Minato Namikaze."
Hearing this, Genichi quickly bowed. "Minato-senpai!"
Minato raised a hand to stop him. "No need to be so formal."
"It's a bit presumptuous of me to come today, but there are some things I'd like to ask for your guidance on."
Genichi scratched his head, feigning confusion.
Ryusei smiled. "Genichi, if you have time, let's find a place to talk. Hmm, how about I treat you to lunch?"
Minato quickly interjected, "Allow me. Genichi, what would you like to eat?"
Genichi thought for a moment. "Ichiraku Ramen!"
"No problem!" Minato agreed at once.
"Sensei, Minato-senpai, please wait just a moment."
With that, Genichi went back into the shop and called out to his parents in the kitchen, "Dad, Mom, I have to go out for a bit! Don't wait for me for lunch!"
He then grabbed his jacket, put it on, and walked out.
At Ichiraku Ramen.
Teuchi was still very young, and the ramen shop had only recently opened.
"Genichi, do you have any plans to graduate early?"
"Not for now. I don't have Kakashi's level of skill."
"You're not any worse than Kakashi. But there's really no need to graduate early. The fundamentals are extremely important."
"You're right, sensei."
While eating ramen, Genichi and Ryusei chatted casually. Minato only chimed in occasionally and didn't immediately bring up the Rasengan.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill, the three of them went to an empty rooftop.
"I'll leave you two to talk now," Ryusei said with a smile. "Genichi, Minato is the disciple of Lord Jiraiya, one of the Sannin, and he's already an outstanding ninja at his age. You should learn all you can from him!"
Minato quickly replied with humility, "Ryusei, you're too kind."
Ryusei waved his hand and left with the Body Flicker Technique.
The rooftop grew quiet, with only the sound of the wind.
Minato was silent for a moment before speaking. "I heard from Lord Third that you developed a new jutsu. Coincidentally, I'm also in the middle of developing one."
Genichi raised his hand, and a Rasengan materialized. "Senpai, are you talking about the Rasengan?"
Minato's pupils contracted as he stared at the Rasengan.
This is it! This is what I've been trying to create!
"You... how did you do it?" Minato lost his composure for a moment. He had been trying for so long but had never succeeded.
However, Minato quickly collected himself, saying with some embarrassment, "My apologies, Genichi. The jutsu I'm developing is very similar to yours, I just haven't been able to complete it."
"'Rasengan.' A very fitting name."
Genichi smiled. "Senpai, have you ever seen a power drill?"
Minato nodded, a thoughtful look on his face.
Genichi asked again, "Senpai, you've seen a spinning whirlpool, right?"
Minato nodded again.
"Senpai, please follow me."
With that, Genichi leaped away. Minato quickly followed, curious but not asking any questions just yet.
He followed Genichi, watching as he bought a large water tank, moved it to the side of a river, and then formed a seal to perform Water Release, manipulating a stream of water from the river into the tank.
Such incredible control, and that seal... Minato was secretly shocked.
"I don't know if you've ever played this game, Senpai."
As Genichi spoke, he plunged his hands into the water tank. He then swirled his hands, causing the water inside to spin at high speed, forming a vortex. When the rotation reached a certain point, Genichi suddenly pressed down with both hands. The spinning water inside expanded outwards, and the water tank instantly shattered into pieces.
Minato's eyes lit up. "I see!"
His inspiration for the Rasengan had come from the Tailed Beast Bomb. He had been fumbling his way from scratch for over a year and still hadn't finished. Genichi's demonstration of shattering the tank with a vortex gave him a moment of sudden clarity.
"Senpai, my inspiration came from this," Genichi said.
"However, the chakra control is extremely difficult, and it must be constantly compressed to have powerful destructive force."
Genichi then said with a helpless expression, "So I thought of a method: fill a balloon with water, then inject chakra into it to get the water spinning, and then use that to tear the balloon."
"After you can tear the water balloon, you switch to a thicker rubber ball."
Minato couldn't help but give a thumbs-up. "Amazing!"
"Senpai, let me show you one more thing."
Genichi turned, and Minato followed.
Soon, the two arrived at a shop that sold yarn.
Genichi picked up a ball of yarn and said to Minato, "Compressing chakra and making it rotate at the same time is very difficult. Senpai, look at these intertwined strands of yarn."
Minato stared at the ball of yarn, and a look of complete understanding dawned on his face. "Make the chakra rotate chaotically in all directions like these yarn strands, layer upon layer, continuously compressing towards a single central point!"
Genichi smiled and nodded. "Yes. Just like when you first learn to mold chakra and focus your spirit. No matter which direction the chakra is spinning, it all converges at a single point in the center. That's how the chakra can be brought together!"
Hearing this, Minato couldn't help but give another thumbs-up. "As expected of the genius praised by Lord Third!"
