Our own hell; lord of the death trial

Chapter 9: 9. Finding life

They went on days, Lily and Kai dragging Emma and Hei Yue with them as they followed the instructions they saw on the map. They sat by a fire they made munching on some berries they had found while they were both lost deeply in thought. "Do you think they'll survive" Lily asked, looking at where Yue and Emma were lying on the floor. Kai looked up at her and shook her head, "already tired of dragging them with you?" She continued munching on the berries as she picked up a leaf from the floor and began tearing it apart "what if she had left us to die, what would you say to that?" Lily swallowed painfully, her face stricken with dread at the thought of death "what if they come again" she asked Kai who decided to ignore her but changed her mind "then we die. We aren't going to survive this place just the two of us, or is that what you were thinking? Don't, cause I wouldn't put my life at stake for yours." She stood up from the log she had been sitting on and went to sit by Emma's side. She watched the orange sun in the sky as it beautified everywhere with its rays, another day was going, and they were still on this cursed island. She was afraid of whatever may come, but she was not going to abandon the people who put their life at stake to save hers.

...

There were flowers everywhere, rose flowers to be exact, blooming in every field, the sun shone in the sky, its light blinding, yet adding to the beauty of the bright blue sky. She closed her eyes, her face to the sky, a serene smile on her face "this is heaven" she thought as a strong breeze blew through the field. The sun went down quickly, the crescent moon showing its face. She sat on the widespread roots of a tree watching the crescent moon move slowly across the sky. It flew toward her, a hare with wings, it was silver and grey in color, its ears covered with yellow dots. She smiled as it came to rest on her lap, burrowing into her arms. "Silgrey" she called its name caressing its head. It flew out of her embrace, and she followed it. They sat on the floor, waiting for a miracle to happen so they could pass through the tunnels before them that were full of spikes above them, and little space to go through. Emma awoke for a brief moment and called for Kai, her voice was muffled that Kai almost missed it. "Take me to a stream or river, when the first quarter of the moon appears" she said as she slipped back into unconsciousness.

She sank deeper into the river like stone, her hair about her, her legs and hands were spread wide in the water as she faced the surface. Kai and Lily stood near the bank of the river Yue lying beside them as they kept watching for every sign of Emma, with worry written all over their faces. "what if she drowns, how are we going to know if she needs help?" Lily asked biting her lips. She knelt down, the mud covering her knees as she screamed Emma's name over the water.

They were calling her name, she could hear it. She felt a weak surge in the water, and she took it in, waiting for more, looking for more. "Silgrey" she called taking in several mouthfuls of the water as she tried to call again. The energy was leaving her, something was taking it out of her, "Silgrey" she called again, as it dragged her to the surface, choking her as it went. She struggled with it, kicking furiously as she held onto her neck, trying to remove its hold on her. "Sil...Sil...grey" she squeezed out, closing her eyes as she removed her hand from around her neck while it choked her more. A silvery ball pierced her from behind and seeped inside of her, healing the wound it had created. She opened her eyes, holding onto the energy, as she took it all in.

Lily almost jumped into the water to look for Emma, when they saw many large bubbles rise to the surface, they moved back as the disturbance increased, a typhoon forming on the surface. They struggled with the force of it forgetting all about Yue who lay on the banks of the river. He slipped into the typhoon, spiraling with it until Emma caught him.

They both sat on the river bank coughing out all the water they had injested, their whole body soaking wet. Yue looked at Emma, his hands on his chest as a new bout of water came through his throat "thank you" he said looking at her with gratitude. She nodded her head in acknowledgement and turned her head behind her as footsteps approached. Hei Yue wanted to ask her a question but stopped as she smiled at Kai and Lily waving her hands in the air. 'It really had been a long time, and it was good to be alive' he thought smiling.
