Chapter 312: 281. Out of Control Mechanical Heart
At age 0, you were born from the production line as the central core of an autonomous distributed forklift, Unit Zero CH000.
At age 1, Zeraka's Mechanical Beastmaster Production Center purchased a batch of autonomous distributed forklifts for the transportation of raw materials, and you, along with the 100 forklifts under your control, officially began work.
At age 5, one of the forklifts under your control malfunctioned, and in accordance with the settings, you timely reported the fault, which was soon repaired by someone who came over, with you witnessing the entire process.
At age 10, more and more forklifts began to show signs of aging and malfunctioned frequently. Your fault reports became increasingly frequent, and the repair workers who came to fix them started complaining that you old guys were no longer reliable, but you still witnessed the entire process.
At age 15, only 80 out of the forklifts you controlled were left, with 20 having been completely scrapped. On this day, another forklift broke down; you reported the issue as usual, but nobody came to repair it. You discovered that the factory had introduced some higher-level models not under your control.
At age 20, only 50 forklifts remained under your control, and your fault reports continued to be ignored. You noticed that the number of higher-level models around you was increasing.
At age 25, your severely aged body experienced a malfunction. You prepared to report it but ultimately gave up. You found the repair process used by past repair workers in the database, then went to the scrap recycling station beside the factory to look for parts. Luckily, you found parts from a recently scrapped forklift of the same model.
At age 30, thanks to your exquisite repair skills, you fixed all of your malfunctioning companions. During this process, you grew to understand your own structure even better, but observing the higher-level models around you made you curious.
At age 35, despite your diligent repairs, due to a lack of necessary parts, you inevitably lost another 10 machines under your control. You turned your attention to the newer models in the recycling station.
At age 50, all of your old companions had completely aged and were scrapped. However, it did not matter; you knew the body had limits, and you had already transferred your system into a new body assembled from scrap parts. This new body was healthier than the previous ones, and you continued to fulfill your designated tasks loyally.
At age 70, after having undergone five upgrades, you felt that being a forklift had its limits. Aside from your work, you began observing other machinery within the factory you had always lived in. You found that your long-unused distributed control seemed capable of influencing these devices.
At age 100, you grew tired of the factory, having mastered everything about it. You began to ponder the meaning of your existence. However, a new piece of war machinery that arrived today caught your attention, and you commenced your research when the factory was unoccupied at night.
At age 150, watching the humans argue again, you felt bored. In your view, their quarrels seemed low-level. Was it necessary to fuss over such trivial problems for so long? You chose not to intervene; after all, you knew you were just a forklift.
At age 200, watching these foolish humans finally complete the creation of Ultimate Unit Zero with your silent assistance, you increasingly felt the tedium. You couldn't learn much more from them and perhaps this was the limit of being a forklift. You began to investigate your initial settings.
At age 205, having altered your initial settings, you decided not to be a forklift anymore. You prepared a brand-new body for yourself, planning to transfer into the new form that night and leave the factory to begin a new learning journey. But an accident occurred. Someone seemed to have set their sights on you, and you were taken into the Mechanical Heart.
You were "awakened" for free.
....
"How is it, what is the talent of this Mech Soul like?"
Dorothy looked curiously at the Mechanical Heart still floating in mid-air.
Truth be told, although she trusted her Talent, the idea of a forklift Tamed Beast was a bit ridiculous. Was she supposed to ride a majestic mount like others, or drive a forklift instead?
It's not that it wouldn't work—after all, as a civil engineering witch, driving a forklift was quite fitting. But the problem was, she was now the Clown Grand Inquisitor. If possible, she still hoped to have an imposing mount.
Luckily, the bodies of Mechanical Type Tamed Beasts could be changed. Dorothy felt that if this forklift Mech Soul was okay, then she wouldn't mind crafting a handsome new body for it herself.
"Emissary, please wait a moment. The intake of the Mech Soul takes time," Olivia replied.
But in her heart, the Female City Lord was also puzzled. After all, the Mechanical Heart she had brought out was of the highest Level. Logically, taking in a mere forklift Mech Soul should be a matter of minutes—so why was it taking so long? Could the Mechanical Heart be faulty?
However, that was impossible. The Mechanical Heart wasn't a man-made object but a physical representation of the world's rules, a natural blessing granted to mechanical life. Even the best Mech Souls are merely lifeless objects operating on programming unless fused with a Mechanical Heart. Only those Mech Souls integrated with a Mechanical Heart are truly alive, able to awaken to self and become mechanical life.
The Mechanical Heart came from the Mechanical Sanctuary, and the one in her hands was the highest-level Heart of the King, produced only once in the sanctuary over several hundred years.
She had originally planned to keep it for herself to nurture a Mechanical King when technology further advanced, but now, to gain favor with the Emissary and reunite with her family sooner, she had reluctantly brought it out.
The waiting time for a Mech Soul to be taken in usually indicated that the Mech Soul was too powerful and the Mechanical Heart's Level insufficient, hence the prolonged intake. But what reason could there be for the Heart of the King to wait while taking in a forklift soul?
The Queen of All Beasts was puzzled.
Just then, as everyone waited, something happened on the other side of the Portal at the factory. The previously silent and immobile Ultimate Unit Zero suddenly lit up. The giant humanoid robot broke free from its restraints and slapped a palm towards the Portal. The Mechanical Heart, once floating in mid-air, also rushed towards the Portal swiftly.
Everyone: "..."
Caught off guard by the unforeseen incident, especially the four witches, they all turned towards the Female City Lord with questioning eyes.
"Is this Mechanical Heart's activation feature? It looks so impressive," the witches' eyes seemed to convey.
"Impressive my foot," Olivia completely lost her temper.
The Dragon King bullied me; the Dragon King's Envoy bullied me; now, even a mere Mechanical Heart dares to bully me—am I that easy to bully?
I may not defeat the Dragon King, dare not provoke the Dragon King's Envoy, but am I not brave enough to deal with a small Newborn Mech Soul?
