Chapter 401 - A Fist Is the Hard Truth
Chapter 401 A Fist Is the Hard Truth
Golden sunlight showered down at dawn, the jungle and the valley had awoken. Ning Tao walked out of the stone hut. He did not actually sleep in the stone hut last night, but instead, he had returned to Sky Clinic to practice his spiritual power and study the cultivation of his plant spiritual materials. He had sown the seeds of fruits and spiritual materials from Chen Pingdao in his own spiritual field.
He was still trying to recite the third line of Your Text: “There is no end in this sea of karma, I drift alone in its midst.” But his condition did not take a turn for the better. The moment he recited it, he felt so despondent as though all his hopes had been dashed. The whole world seemed inundated by an ocean, while he drifted about in the raging waves. Darkness engulfed him as he was overcome by loneliness and terror. The feeling was terrible.
He had figured out a pattern: each line of Your Text would be more difficult than the last. The first three lines were already so difficult. He could not imagine how abstruse they would get by the tenth or hundredth line. He did not even know if there would be a tenth or hundredth line of Your Text.
“Brother Ning!” It was Fan Huaying’s voice.
Ning Tao shifted his gaze. He saw Fan Huaying walk towards him in the golden shower of dawn. His confident eyes and steadfast steps informed one that he was in high spirits.
Ning Tao also opened his mouth to greet him. “Good morning, Brother Huaying.”
“Are your two wives back yet?” Fan Huaying drew near Ning Tao and asked.
Ning Tao said, “They came back and then left again.”
Fan Huaying said in surprise, “They came back and then left again?”
“They have matters to see to. Just let them be,” Ning Tao said. He could only explain it in this way. He could not tell Fan Huaying that he had opened a convenient door and sent Qing Zhui and Jiang Hao back to Beidu.
Fan Huaying smiled. “I know your wives are extraordinary women. But this country is at war, so it’s better for them to be a little more careful.”
Ning Tao changed the topic and smiled. “Brother Huaying, you must have had a great time last night.”
Fan Huaying was startled a little and then said embarrassedly, “I know what you are thinking. But it’s really not what you think.”
“Then what?”
Fan Huaying shrugged. “She has a cell phone made in Hua Country, but didn’t know how to use it. So she brought me to her house to teach her.”
“After that?”
Fan Huaying said, “I stayed for a while, and then left after teaching her.”
Ning Tao was speechless.
They must have taken off their pants to watch the cartoon series “Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf.”
However, this was quite normal. After all, Fan Huaying was a man with sophisticated taste. He would not have impregnated that tribal girl.
“I’m going back today,” Fan Huaying said. The topic just now was too awkward, so he would rather not continue it. “When are you going back?”
Ning Tao said, “Let me see you to the airport. After that, I will return and treat Chieftain Male Eagle.”
Fan Huaying lowered his voice. “Why don’t you leave with me? What happened last night made me understand this country and her natives clearly. They aren’t trustworthy. Their thoughts and customs are incomprehensible to us. You will be in grave danger if you stay here alone. If you really need those herbs, I can help you get them from elsewhere.”
Ning Tao gently clasped Fan Huaying’s shoulder and smiled. “That Male Eagle is only a little chick before me. He can’t threaten me. I have my own plans, so just let me be.”
Fan Huaying was silent for a moment before saying, “I know you are no ordinary man and possess some unfathomable abilities. Last night, a few hundred people tried to burn me to death, but you managed to save me by yourself. Very well, I won’t persuade you to leave with me. But don’t see me off too. A friend will take me to the airport; I will reach it safely. Let’s say goodbye here.”
Ning Tao nodded.
Fan Huaying left and Ning Tao returned to the residence of Chieftain Male Eagle. The latter was awaiting his return. Dozens of efficient tribal warriors were with him, all armed. Ning Tao saw the spiritual materials Fan Huaying bought him. They were placed on the ground before Chieftain Male Eagle. They were all spiritual ingredients needed for the third-version Ancestor-seeking Elixir.
Chieftain Male Eagle stood up, his face wreathed in smiles. He said in English, “Doctor Ning, I have already prepared quite a few herbs. They are all what you required. When will you treat my illness?”
Ning Tao said blandly, “Chieftain Male Eagle, these are herbs my friend bought from you for 5 million. The money he spent was mine. You wouldn’t regard these herbs as your treatment fee to me, would you?”
The smile on Chieftain Male Eagle’s face instantly froze.
Ning Tao’s figure suddenly streaked to just before the tribal warriors. His right arm waved and a cold light flashed. He stopped beside Male Eagle, the Blade of Solar Eclipse in his hand pressed against Chieftain Male Eagle’s neck. If Ning Tao gave his neck a light slash, blood would splatter and Chieftain Male Eagle would be dead.
Swish, swish…
Several rifles were sheared off by the Blade of the Solar Eclipse.
The atmosphere in this house instantly froze. The tribal warriors did not dare exhale a breath.
Cold sweat broke out on Chieftain Male Eagle’s forehead. His eyes stared fixedly at the surgical blade pressed against his neck. He did not dare move or speak. He was afraid to enrage Ning Tao―the latter might really behead him.
Ning Tao said coldly, “I hate people who lie to me. These herbs are mine in the first place, yet you are giving them to me as treatment fees. I can forgive what happened last night, but that doesn’t mean I will forgive you a second time. I am giving a final warning: give me the medicinal herbs I need.”
Male Eagle’s voice was trembling. “I, I have already sent men to pick them. But it takes, takes time. You can treat me after I collect all the herbs.”
Ning Tao answered, “No need. I will treat you right now. After collecting the herbs, put them in my hut. I will come and take them away.”
Chieftain Male Eagle frantically nodded. He did not dare go against Ning Tao’s intentions. Right now, he was not wondering whether Ning Tao could cure him, but only wanted this pesky god to leave his tribal settlement.
Ning Tao kept the Blade of the Solar Eclipse and opened his medicine chest, taking out a Fertility Pill. He handed it to Chieftain Male Eagle. “Take this, and find yourself a woman to bear your children.”
Chieftain Male Eagle hesitated for a moment. He finally opened his mouth and swallowed that Fertility Pill.
Ning Tao had no excessive words to say. He picked up the spiritual materials on the ground and walked to the door.
Chieftain Male Eagle’s expression immediately became quite strange. He stood up. “What a weird feeling. I have… reactions!”
Ning Tao turned his head back and glanced at Chieftain Male Eagle. “Remember your promise to me. Put the herbs you collected in my stone hut. I will come back for them.”
Male Eagle lowered his head and glanced at his crotch. He said excitedly, “I will. Don’t worry. I will surely honor my promise.”
Ning Tao left Chieftain Male Eagle’s house and walked towards the stone hut.
He did not want to intimidate Chieftain Male Eagle, but some people needed that. They were not amenable to reason and would prefer to use their fists. If your fist was harder than theirs, they would heed you. If your fist was weaker, they would climb up your head to defecate.
Back in his stone hut, Ning Tao opened a convenient door directly to Sky Clinic.
He did some simple processing of the spiritual materials from the Pointe-Noire settlement. Then he stored them. Each time he found a new prescription of the Ancestor-seeking Elixir, he would refine a new Ancestor-seeking Elixir. Since each new prescription would add more ingredients, the spiritual materials he required would increase. All the spiritual materials he used before would be needed again, so it was important for him to keep a supply. He did not want to refine incomplete elixirs and go on exhausting hunts for spiritual materials, each time he discovered a new prescription.
After processing the material, Ning Tao pulled out his cell phone. He found the young nun Cixin’s telephone number. But in the end he did not call her, opting to send her a message instead. “Hello, Reverend Cixin. This is Doctor Ning. Does your Emei Sect have any broken magic tools you need me to mend? I can visit you in person and offer my services. This time, I don’t need any spiritual materials. I would just like to visit Reverend Miexin and admire her gracious mien.”
He waited for several minutes before receiving Cixin’s message: “Hello, Doctor Ning. Thank you for repairing my Master’s wooden fish. My Master is unstinting in her praise of you. She said she would visit you in Beidu soon. Let me ask my Master and see what she says. Please wait.”
Ning Tao could not help but smile. “Okay, I’ll wait for your reply.”
He must definitely pay a visit to Reverend Miexin. He must have Zhu Hongyu’s skull which was in her possession. He must also know the story and the clues behind it.
However, he expected this affair to give him problems. She was the Sect Leader of Emei, occupying the same eminent position as Master Fakong in the practitioners’ world. Since she was so highly esteemed, it would not be right to coerce her. But it was not likely he could persuade her either.
While waiting for Cixin’s reply message, Ning Tao was already contemplating his plan.
Ring, ring…
A series of ringtones caused Ning Tao to gather thoughts. He grabbed his cell phone and glanced at it. It was a call from Cixin. He swiped up the reception panel and greeted her. “Hello, Reverend Cixin.”
“He-hello, Doctor Ning.” Cixin’s voice was clear, crisp and melodious, but sounded a little nervous.
Ning Tao said, “Um, what did your Master say?”
Cixin’s voice said, “My Master has agreed. You can visit us at Emei Sect, but you must come alone. I will go and fetch you. Another thing, my Master has a flying sword that she needs you to mend. Tell us what spiritual materials you need, so that we can get them ready in advance.”
“Flying sword?” Ning Tao had always wanted a flying sword. But until now, he had never seen a real one before. He never expected Reverend Miexin to have a magic weapon for him to mend, let alone a flying sword.
“What’s wrong? Can you repair it?”
“Yes, of course I can. But I haven’t seen the flying sword, so I don’t know what spiritual materials I need. How about this: give me your address. I will visit you and we’ll see,” Ning Tao said.
Cixin said, “Ten days later, come to the Golden Summit of Mount Emei. I will pick you up there.”
“No problem. But why must it be ten days later?” Ning Tao asked.
Cixin answered, “I don’t know either. This was what Master said. Alright then, it’s settled. See you then.”
She hung up the phone.
Ten days later?
Under normal circumstances, when someone was there to repair her flying sword, wouldn’t Reverend Miexin be eager to see him?
Ning Tao could not quite understand although he mulled it over in his head. He had an inexpressible premonition in his heart. In the end, he decided to stop pondering over it. He assembled his spiritual materials and started picking silken threads for Qing Zhui and Jiang Hao’s garments. Although they could not use a proper Heavenly Gem Magic Garment, the garments could help them deflect bullets and stabbing. He would also weave one for Yin Molan and Bai Jing, but they would have to wait.
