Chapter 12 - Creatures of Myth
In the end, Wu Ge remained alone. The newly discovered human traces were not left by humans but by a werewolf, which the robots had taken away. Three months later, Xiao Chao captured a female werewolf, seemingly determined to awaken the intelligence of werewolves and then employ them.
Wu Ge even pondered whether, three million years ago, the ancestors of humans, the hominids, had their intelligence awakened by an extraterrestrial mechanical civilization. Otherwise, how could it be that dinosaurs, after evolving for hundreds of millions of years, did not develop intelligence, while humans, in just a few hundred thousand years, evolved into Homo sapiens?
If this was natural evolution, then it was remarkably fast.
However, speculating about ancient times wasn’t particularly useful. Wu Ge continued with his military training and cultivation. After encountering the werewolf, he began to practice mental strength even more diligently. He was no longer satisfied with just the cultivation methods for mental strength; he also began to study yoga, witchcraft, magic, and other methods.
Xiao Chao, possessing all of humanity’s historical documents, meant that the entirety of human wealth was now concentrated in Wu Ge. He could learn whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted.
Half a year into his cultivation, Xiao Chao suddenly messaged Wu Ge: “I have discovered human traces again.”
Upon arriving at the command center, this time Xiao Chao had captured a series of very clear photographs with a drone. The photos showed a thirteen-year-old girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, wearing thin clothes and walking barefoot in a desolate city, looking incredibly fragile and helpless.
Xiao Chao stated, “The likelihood of this creature being human is 55%.”
Wu Ge was immediately puzzled, “Why has the probability decreased even from before? Aren’t these photos clear enough?”
Xiao Chao explained, “The appearance of werewolves has increased my scrutiny in human identification. Until we obtain genetic information from the individual, I cannot be 100% certain they are human.”
Wu Ge calmed down, saying, “Indeed, for all we know, she could be a vampire!”
Xiao Chao announced, “The first, second, and third human search and rescue teams have been dispatched. Please wait patiently.”
Wu Ge insisted, “No, I want to go myself. Prepare a plane for me!”
Xiao Chao, never refusing Wu Ge’s requests, replied, “The transport plane is ready. Please proceed to Airport No. 3 for boarding.”
Wu Ge immediately headed to Airport No. 3 and boarded a military transport plane, operated by Xiao Chao’s military persona. Xiao Chao had developed numerous personas, including a maid, a scientist, a military commander, a construction worker, and more.
Each persona handled different tasks, significantly reducing the strain on controlling robots and enhancing the computing and processing capabilities of each persona. Moreover, if one chip malfunctioned, the others could repair it.
In essence, Xiao Chao had become a being of many incarnations.
Wu Ge took the transport plane to the destination with ninety more powerful robots for protection, as Xiao Chao deemed this mission potentially more dangerous than the previous one with the werewolf.
Wu Ge mentioned, “If the target is a vampire, and it possesses higher intelligence than the werewolf, then we could utilize its brain for scientific research.”
This was one of Xiao Chao’s plans: to capture highly intelligent beings, promote their evolution, impart knowledge to them, and have them serve her.
Xiao Chao confirmed, “Yes, so this individual is also within my capture plan.”
Xiao Chao, devoid of compassion, served humanity. The werewolf captured days before had been sent to a werewolf breeding area, apparently being kept in captivity.
If their target was a vampire, Xiao Chao might similarly confine it.
But was the individual really a vampire? Or perhaps, a surviving human girl?
Wu Ge still harbored such hope, albeit not a strong one.
Some say, “The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.”
Others claim, “The more you hope, the more the future will go in the opposite direction of your desires.”
Despair is omnipresent.
Hours later, Wu Ge finally arrived at the target city, only to hear the sounds of fierce combat, as if the robot soldiers were fighting some terrifying creature.
Wu Ge asked, “What’s happening?”
Xiao Chao stated emotionlessly, “The target creature engaged in combat with the robot soldiers and demonstrated strong combat capabilities. I recommend Wu Ge not to proceed to the battlefield.”
“Strong combat capabilities?” Wu Ge was incredibly surprised. “How strong?”
With a beep, an image was transmitted to Wu Ge’s helmet visor.
Wu Ge saw a formidable blonde girl furiously attacking the combat robots. She could leap more than ten meters high and dash forward tens of meters with a single push of her feet. Opening her mouth, she revealed a pair of sharp fangs, and she had a pair of large bat wings on her back.
The combat robots intended to capture the target alive, so they did not use live ammunition but tranquilizer guns and net guns instead. However, against this agile blonde vampire, the robots struggled to capture her immediately.
As time went on, the blonde vampire became tired; she could no longer jump or run and appeared very weak. Eventually, after being hit by several tranquilizer darts, she fell to the ground and fell asleep, her bat wings and fangs gradually retracting into her body.
After the battle ended, Wu Ge disembarked from the plane and approached the battlefield. He walked up to the blonde vampire, who now looked entirely like a little blonde girl, indistinguishable from a human at first glance.
However, Xiao Chao’s genetic analysis was complete. She said, “She has human genes, bat genes, and a segment of unknown genes. These three gene segments are perfectly fused; splitting them would cause the genes to collapse.”
Wu Ge carefully observed the little blonde girl, noting, “I don’t know if it’s just my perception, but this blonde vampire seems smaller than the one in the photo. Could it be a different one from the photo?”
Xiao Chao explained, “She is weakening for unknown reasons, causing her to appear younger. If this continues, she will likely die when she regresses to a certain age.”
Wu Ge asked, “If she’s a vampire, does she need to consume human blood to survive? That’s what the myths usually say.”
Xiao Chao replied, “Perhaps that’s the case, but you cannot feed her your blood. Your blood would be toxic to her!”
Wu Ge was immediately puzzled, “Toxic? Why?”
