Chapter 1 - Humanity Has Lost
In all disaster stories, humanity always manages to win in the end. But this time, humanity lost.
It was just a palm-sized alien spaceship. The ship landed on Earth, made contact with humans, and then attacked. Humanity used all means to fight back but still lost.
The aliens only launched one strike. They released a beam of white light that covered the entire globe, and then humanity disappeared.
On the day when the disaster struck humanity, Wu Ge was at home playing a game called “Three Kingdoms Kill” by himself. He was playing five roles at once, engaging in a thrilling battle of wits in his mind. He was the lord, the loyal minister, the rebel, and the spy, all at once.
Wu Ge formed an alliance with Wu Ge, defeated Wu Ge, found the spy Wu Ge, and killed Wu Ge while sacrificing Wu Ge. In the end, the only surviving Wu Ge won.
What a thrilling battle of wits.
Wu Ge won, but humanity lost. A beam of white light enveloped the globe, covering all of humanity. Then, all of humanity disappeared, leaving only Wu Ge.
When Wu Ge was enveloped by the white light, he heard a strange voice:
“Performing mental assessment: Are you human? Answer: No!”
“Teleportation canceled.”
Wu Ge only heard these two sentences, and then the white light disappeared. The world suddenly became quiet.
He walked out of his home. He didn’t contact anyone because he wasn’t close to anyone. He went to the street but saw no one and no cars.
Something was very wrong. Although the street was not bustling, it shouldn’t be this deserted.
Humanity had disappeared. There were no people on the streets, in restaurants, or in supermarkets.
Wu Ge looked around and saw a pair of birds chirping. There were animals.
He looked up and saw that the traffic lights were still working. There was electricity.
Wu Ge went home, turned on the tap, and water flowed. There was water.
He turned on his computer, opened a live stream, and music played continuously. But there were no hosts and no comments… Humanity had disappeared.
Wu Ge started making calls. His contact list only had a dozen numbers, all family and relatives. No girlfriends, not even male friends.
He called every number in his contact list, but no one answered.
Wu Ge slumped on the sofa. Combining what he had just heard, he understood what had happened. All of humanity had been teleported away. Now, he was the only living human on Earth.
Wu Ge had been an only child. He had always been alone—going to school alone, coming home alone, studying alone, playing alone. He had no girlfriend, no boyfriend.
He had gone to the movies alone, eaten hot pot alone, traveled alone. Now, he was alone at home, cooking alone, playing games alone. Soon, he would be going to college alone.
Gradually, Wu Ge felt comfortable being alone. His parents, although busy, would send him money, allowing him to live worry-free. He could sleep in, play games all day, and stay up late at night.
Being alone was fine.
But that was just being alone at home. Now, he was alone on Earth!
A boundless loneliness enveloped Wu Ge, making it hard for him to breathe, making his heart stop, making him feel like he was falling into an abyss.
Just then, the glass window of Wu Ge’s home suddenly shattered. Wu Ge snapped back to reality and saw a delivery drone continuously hitting the window.
The drone was holding a phone, from which an emotionless synthesized voice kept repeating, “Do not commit suicide! Do not commit suicide! Do not commit suicide!”
Startled, Wu Ge quickly opened the shattered window and shouted, “Is there anyone else alive? Who are you? Where are you?”
“I am not a living being,” the synthesized voice from the phone replied. “I am the latest and most powerful super artificial intelligence robot. My current location is in a secret base in City A, 25,000 kilometers away from you.”
“Super artificial intelligence robot…” Wu Ge felt despair. Had humanity really disappeared?
The voice from the phone continued, “My creator gave me all permissions three hours ago and assigned me an ultimate mission: to save all of humanity.”
“Save humanity?” Wu Ge seized on the most crucial information and loudly asked, “What exactly happened? Where did all of humanity go?”
The emotionless artificial intelligence robot said, “Five hours ago, intelligent beings from the Microstar civilization visited Earth in their warship intending to establish relations with humanity; four hours ago, the negotiations failed, and the Microstar civilization issued a ‘final three-hour declaration’; three hours ago, my creator gave me all permissions and assigned me the ultimate mission; one hour ago, the Microstar civilization launched an attack and abducted all of humanity; 30 minutes ago, I found you through networked cameras; 15 minutes ago, I obtained takeoff permission from the nearest delivery company’s drone; now, I have met you.”
Wu Ge understood the situation and felt a glimmer of hope. He asked, “Am I really the only human left on Earth? Am I… still human?”
Wu Ge remembered that when the white light enveloped him, he was not identified as human. Could it be that he was no longer considered human?
The artificial intelligence robot said, “The probability of humans existing on Earth is zero percent. Calculation error, you are human, so the probability is not zero percent. Therefore, other humans may also exist on Earth.”
The robot logically deduced that because Wu Ge was human and had been overlooked by the aliens, other overlooked humans might also exist on Earth.
The logic was flawless, and Wu Ge believed it. He said, “Super artificial intelligence robot, help me. Help me find other humans.”
The robot replied, “My ultimate mission is to save all of humanity. You are human and are on my rescue list. If other surviving humans are found, they will also be rescued by me. Now, please follow me back to my secret base. The supplies there are enough to sustain you for a thousand years.”
Wu Ge gave a bitter smile, “A thousand years, can I live that long?”
The emotionless artificial intelligence robot said, “My ultimate mission is to save all of humanity. I will not let you die. Your mental state is very unstable; please do not commit suicide.”
