Chapter 549: Creating the Devil
"Is there anyone who knows where he has gone?"
In the Great Library of the Sea of Souls, Fairy Queen Sofia could not find any trace of Angel Schiller, so she asked her subjects.
The fairies all shook their heads, seemingly none had seen where Angel Schiller had gone.
Sofia furrowed her brows.
Ever since forty Nameless Books about the Path of Divine Creation were cast down to the Mortal World, Great Angel Schiller had seldom left the Sea of Souls.
For this Great Angel, his mission became temporarily concluded after the Path of Divine Creation appeared. And for this reason, he had no cause to leave the Sea of Souls.
However, in recent times, Angel Schiller started leaving the Sea of Souls frequently, with no one knowing his destinations.
Although Angel Schiller always returned safely, and there was no one in the world who could harm this Great Angel, for some reason, Sofia always had an ill premonition.
This premonition was like the Dwarves witnessing the Steam Train slowly derailing.
Sofia had also questioned Angel Schiller several times, but every time, either he evaded her questions or dismissed her with a scold, forbidding her inquiries.
As time passed, Fairy Queen Sofia's ominous premonitions grew increasingly intense.
"Schiller... what exactly are you planning?"
Sofia murmured to herself.
The fairies around her, as if sensing their Queen's mood, all clamped their mouths shut, not daring to disturb her with a word.
Sofia pressed her hand against her forehead and whispered a prayer:
"Oh Lord above, have mercy on him."
No sooner had she finished speaking than Sofia laughed lightly.
She found herself ridiculous for praying.
Angel Schiller was, after all, a Great Angel, the hand and foot of God. Why would he need mercy?
And even if mercy was needed, it wasn't her place to pray for it.
Moreover, unlike those mortals who devoutly believed in the Divine, she always harbored doubts about faith within her heart. She did not believe in doctrines of "salvation" and "sacrifice" and was more like an easily swayed agnostic.
Thinking this, Sofia sighed deeply and couldn't help thinking:
If only she could meet God...
Even just once.
As the Fairy Queen, Sofia had earnestly pleaded with Angel Schiller several times to take her to Heaven.
Of course, without a doubt, her requests were refused every time.
"He's back! The Great Angel has returned!"
Suddenly, an urgent and excited voice came from outside the door, with a fairy bringing news.
Sofia straightened up involuntarily,
"Let him come here."
The fairy approached Sofia, gave a bow, and hastily said:
"The Great Angel wishes for you to come to him."
Sofia frowned slightly but didn't say much. She slowly rose to her feet and then, flapping her clear, translucent wings, left the Great Library and flew towards the very summit of the Sea of Souls.
Before long, Sofia reached the summit of the Sea of Souls, where Angel Schiller was standing with his back to her, as if gazing into the distance.
Sofia followed his line of sight and saw a massive deep-red Star.
The Historical Star.
"Why did you ask me to come here?"
Sofia, familiar with the path, landed directly on Schiller's shoulder and asked outright.
"I think... I want to create another spiritual life form."
Schiller's words took Sofia by surprise, and she looked at him with a mix of astonishment and confusion, saying:
"You have already created two spiritual life forms, one is us Fairies, the other is the Rose Snakes.
Rose Snakes serve as our sheeps, pack animals, and oxen; with them, we Fairies have no need for the services of other spiritual life forms.
Why bother creating another spiritual life form then?"
The Great Angel still kept his gaze fixed, unflinchingly staring at the deep crimson Historical Star.
A breeze came by, and Sofia inexplicably felt a chill of loneliness.
"Not bad, I created you fairies and the rose snakes.
Sofia, you should know, both these types of spiritual beings, they feed on good thoughts.
But now, I want to create a spiritual being that no longer feeds on good thoughts, but on evil ones."
Sofia was stunned for a moment.
She turned her head, her face full of surprise and asked,
"A spiritual being that feeds on evil thoughts?
Have you lost your mind?"
Sofia's voice trembled a bit.
The Great Angel belonging to God, the Great Angel who stepped out from God's spirit, was actually going to create a type of spiritual being that fed on evil thoughts.
"Have I lost my mind? Why would you think that?
No, I haven't."
As he spoke, Schiller pointed toward the earth,
"Take a look, Sofia,
On that mortal earth down there, there are righteous people and there are wicked people.
It follows that on the spiritual earth, there should be fairies as well as Heart Demons.
Heart Demons... or perhaps... Devils."
Sofia noticed that Schiller's voice was indifferent, with hardly any emotional fluctuation, as if he had already made up his mind.
She couldn't help feeling a bit frightened.
She knew that whatever Schiller decided upon, he often wouldn't change his mind.
He was telling her now that he wanted to create a spiritual being that fed on evil thoughts, which meant that he had probably already made all the preparations and might have even already created the embryo.
"Devil... that's really an unpleasant word."
Sofia murmured.
"It's supposed to be unpleasant, so that people would fear it, reject it, stay away from it.
Just like how people always fear the wicked, reject the wicked, stay away from the wicked."
Schiller stated.
Sofia turned back to look at him directly and asked word by word,
"Why do you want to do this?
Is there a necessity to create Devils in this world?"
Schiller finally turned his head and looked at Sofia on his shoulder, slowly nodding,
"There is.
In truth, I didn't conjure Devils out of thin air.
The dark side of the human heart, or let's say the Heart Demon, has always existed, just without form.
Devils, they do not have reason, or souls, they are the manifestations of the dark side of the human heart, like parasites.
They feed on evil thoughts, like Scavengers of the world feeding on the filth in the rivers; at the same time, they mark the boundary between good and evil, as anyone who harbors Devils in their heart is undoubtedly a bad person."
The words spoken by Schiller landed on Sofia's ears, and the initially skeptical Fairy Queen couldn't help but waver.
How logical the Great Angel's words were.
With so much filth and darkness in the world,
Why wouldn't there be Scavengers to clean up the world's filth and darkness?
Thinking this, Sofia couldn't help but nod in agreement.
Though she still had her doubts,
But... Schiller must be confident in his reasons.
Moreover,
He was the Divine Angel.
