He Bai swept around at his roommates, and replied, “Not exactly a plan, I’ll make some clarification though, and that’s it. We just go on with our own lives, we work and we have fun, there are people have turned green with envy, yeah? I’ll make them even more envious.” He couldn’t wait to see their reactions when he won the lottery after graduation.
At the end of the day, a clear conscience was a soft pillow. Rumors could not becomes facts.
Seeing his attitude, his roommates burst into laughter, then they nodded in unison. Soon enough they would leave this matter behind and talk something else.
After the chat with his roommates, He Bai logged into his campus network account and posted against the rumors: First of all, he turned down the museum due to personal reasons, there was no such thing as looking down upon the museum, he will keep his work himself; Secondly, no one could tamper the certificates exams, please do not implicate the innocent counsellor, the results now is available online, anyone who is interested to see his results can check it online; Thirdly, he is having so much fun riding on Di Qiuhe’s coattails, everyone is welcome to share the ride with him. And he indeed has a good teacher who always trains him after class, everyone is also welcome to the private class as long as it Professor Xu thinks you worth his time.
With that sassy post he left this matter behind, he decided to let it go. But he could not decide how others see this matter.
This post seemed to served as a confirmation to other people who had been slandering him, they accused him of being arrogant, showing no signs of regret or guilty.
Xu Yinrong logged out his campus network with a clouded face, then he thought about this matter for a while. He ended up submitting a resignation report to the HR, after that he started to pack up.
To return to Di Qiuhe, he heard about this matter from Xing Shaofeng, his face darkened after he browsed the post online slandering He Bai, then he asked Xing Shaofeng to make a statement as his manager. After that he had his team dig in the rumors, he specifically emphasized the curator of the museum and the president of the photography club.
He Bai was retouching the posters of when all three of his roommates were drawn to Niu Junjie’s table, and they were so focused on the screen.
“What’s new?” He rubbed his stiff neck from long hours sedentariness and came closer to them.
Niu Junjie turned his head and said, “Bai, even I am jealous of you now.”
He Bai was more confused, “What are you talking about?”
“Here,” Chen Jie made room for He Bai and he pointed at the screen, “Both Professor Xu and Di Qiuhe had made statements, this thing now has turned so big that the school has to speak up.”
He Bai was dumbfounded for a bit then he came closer to the screen.
It was Xing Shaofeng’s Weibo page, what was pinned on top was a statement signed by Di Qiuhe, it was a brief statement, he explained He Bai turned down the museum out of respect for his willingness, it had nothing to do with He Bai looked down upon the museum. And, he and He Bai were as close as friends could be, He Bai helped him out when he hit bottom rock back in the days, thanks to He Bai, he was turning better, the saying riding on his coattails was no difference than tarnishing their friendship, he would like to resort to law against people who were so passionate about spreading rumors. Then he added some self-mockery in the end, the name Di Qiuhe was known to no one overseas, if anything, it was him who was riding on He Bai’s coattails.
“As close as friends could be… tut tut, how subtle.” exclaimed Niu Junjie, then he made a face, “I’m touched by this friendship.”
He Bai did not take Niu Junjie’s teasing that well, he demanded, “Let me see Professor Xu’s statement.”
Niu Junjie quit teasing him and clicked open Professor Xu’s statement for him.
Professor Xu’s statement was a bit longer than Di Qiuhe’s, it was more logical and more well put, it refuted the rumors one by one.
He acknowledged he had trained He Bai after class, and he admitted it was a mistake of his that he occupied He Bai’s private time when he saw potential in him, he felt bad on forcing He Bai to finish the extra work he assigned him, he felt he made a huge mistake by asking He Bai to come to his office for feedback and instructions. And he listed the same mistakes he had made during the past years, there were a lot students who had gone through what happened to He Bai, he felt he was ridiculously wrong, he did not follow the rules stipulated by school, he failed at being a teacher.
Then he apologized for having a student like He Bai who had coerced his counsellor to pull strings for him in exams. His training had made He Bai a double-faced person, he behaved politely and worked hard around his teachers and friends, yet he became arrogant and cocky in front of that curator, showed no manner at all! It was all his fault, he pressured his student too much!
He ended the statement with some self-criticism, he should have paid more attention on the relationship between his students and lead them to grow in harmony, now there were students who reduced themselves to tools of interests, there were students who were willing to lie blatantly online!
Due to the above reasons, he felt deeply sorry and he had to resign.
He Bai was panic stricken after he read this statement, he called Professor Xu immediately yet he could not get through, he rushed out to Professor Xu’s office.
When he arrived at his office, Professor Xu just finished the call with the dean, and he was busy packing up.
“My master… …” He Bai looked around his office, it was half empty and Professor Xu kept packing, he blurted out, “Please don’t do this, those rumors don’t bother me even one bit, I… …”
Xu Yinrong raised his hand and interrupted He Bai, he gave him a comforting look, and gently he said, “I’m getting old, I’m having a hard time teaching now, I might as well resign using this opportunity, don’t over think.”
