Chapter 27: 27. Beach
Marsh looked at the woman who had dragged him down into the water and found himself both amused and exasperated. He decided not to struggle and waited to see what she was up to.
Ten seconds later, Gion was still pulling him down.
A minute later, she finally let go of his hand.
Two minutes later, Gion stopped moving altogether…
No way!
A Lieutenant Commander, a future Vice Admiral and Admiral candidate, can't swim?!
Or is it…
Without time to think further, Marsh quickly rolled in the water and dove deeper.
Half a minute later, the previously calm sea suddenly burst with a towering spray of water!
Within the water column, two figures shot upward into the sky!
And below them, a massive sea beast, with a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth, was lunging toward the two figures!
Rokuogan!
Holding the unconscious Gion with one arm, Marsh thrust his other hand downwards at supersonic speed!
Even before his punch landed, a massive dent appeared on the sea beast's head!
It then crashed back into the water, its fate unknown!
"Hey! You're not dead, are you?" Marsh called out, landing on the beach and gently patting Gion's cheek.
But Gion didn't respond, her muscles completely limp, as if she had no bones.
This… could it be the powers of a Devil Fruit user!
But in the original story, Gion wasn't described as having eaten a Devil Fruit!
After a brief hesitation, Marsh lowered his head.
And began performing CPR.
…
Half an hour later.
"Cough, cough!" Gion, still with her eyes closed, suddenly started coughing.
Seeing this, Marsh let out a long sigh of relief.
If this woman had drowned, it would have made a colorful chapter in naval history.
[Successfully saved a drowning girl, earned 100 virtue points]
Huh? He'd almost forgotten about his Protagonist System!
"Ma'am, you're finally awake!"
"W-What happened?"
Awakening with her Momousagi consciousness, Gion found herself lying wet on the beach, covered only by a man's naval uniform.
Wasn't she sleeping?
Why was she here?
"Hm? Don't you remember?" Marsh looked bewildered.
He quickly recounted the events that had just transpired.
"So, you're saying I sliced through your quarters again and demanded you feed me?" Gion's face flushed as she stammered, "That's impossible!"
Sigh, women just don't want to lose her pride.
Do it, then refuse to admit it!
A man should know when to look the other way!
"You must've been so overworked that you started sleepwalking. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone." Marsh said, putting on a serious face.
"Uh…" Gion's face flushed again. Sleepwalking? Like she wouldn't know?
But she went along with it, "That must be it. Since there's no issue, I'll head back. I have work tomorrow."
She stood up to leave.
But as she moved, the man's naval uniform slipped off her shoulders.
In the cool night sea breeze, Gion suddenly felt a chill.
She looked down…she wasn't wearing anything!
And Marsh's gaze had already swept over her before he quickly looked away.
"You!!!" Gion grabbed the fallen uniform to cover herself, her other hand gripping the hilt of her sword, Konpira!
"Ma'am, don't misunderstand! You fell into the sea, and your clothes were soaked. If I didn't take them off, you'd catch a cold! You're the base lieutenant commander, and if you got sick, the whole base would be in chaos! We can't afford delays in carrying out orders!" Marsh quickly explained.
"I…" Gion was about to speak when a figure descended from the sky.
It was Sadi, already dressed in her naval uniform.
"Commander! Headquarters just called with urgent news…" She trailed off, taken aback by the scene in front of her.
In the dead of night, on the beach, with two people, one of whom was barely clothed…
"No! It's not what you think!" Gion wished she could disappear on the spot.
"Huh? Commander, weren't you here to get a massage from Marsh?" Sadi looked puzzled, "So, this isn't…"
"Yes, yes, that's it! Didn't you tell me his massage skills were good? I've been sitting too long lately, so I asked him to help with my sore back." Gion nodded quickly.
With her movements, the thin naval uniform swayed.
Marsh stole a quick glance, which Gion noticed and responded to with a fierce glare.
"Since there's an urgent message, let's discuss it in my office. I appreciate your dedication coming here so late at night!"
Gion patted Sadi's shoulder, then leapt into the air with Geppo, disappearing from the beach.
Marsh was left on the sand, helplessly staring at his quarters with its roof sliced open yet again, utterly crestfallen.
