Chapter 118: Chapter 118: The Shattered Island, and the Pirate Who Shakes Navy Defenses!
At the prison deep in the center of Lodestar Island, where Shanks and Buggy were being held, Yoriichi stepped outside with his sword in hand. His pupils contracted as he stared at the terrifying fissure that stretched endlessly across the ground. When he looked up toward the sea, he saw the ocean split in two by an invisible force.
Moments later, the seawater surged back, rapidly filling the scar torn across the sea. At the far edge of this massive slash, a Marine warship had been split clean in half and was now slowly sinking into the ocean.
Sailors on the broken ship jumped overboard in panic. The patrol crews on nearby ships noticed the situation and quickly deployed lifeboats to assist with the rescue.
"A flying slash from across the sea… What terrifying power."
Yoriichi stood silently, staring at the sight before him. Then, as if struck by a sudden thought, he turned and rushed around to the back of the stone prison, peering into the dense forest behind it.
The slash hadn't just extended from the ocean to the central prison on Lodestar Island. It had continued right past the prison and cut across the entire island, the end nowhere in sight.
The entire island had been bisected.
A single slash from afar had cleaved Lodestar Island in two.
Just as Yoriichi was surveying the destruction caused by the slash, an ear-piercing alarm suddenly blared across the island.
At the harbor, the Marines sprang into motion the moment they heard the alarm. Within seconds, several warships began setting sail.
"Hey! Yoriichi, what happened out there?!"
"What's that alarm about?!"
"Answer me, Yoriichi!"
Shanks shouted from inside the stone building.
Yoriichi narrowed his eyes at the vast expanse of sea, then turned around and reentered the prison.
Seeing him return, Shanks ran to the bars and gripped them tightly, visibly agitated. But he wasn't excited because the Navy was under attack. Instead, his face was filled with worry.
Buggy, on the other hand, finally looked alert. His gaze locked onto Yoriichi with pure anticipation.
"That alarm—what does it mean?!"
"Is it—?"
Shanks stopped mid-sentence, his voice tense.
"It's just the Navy sounding an intruder alert," Yoriichi replied calmly. "But chances are, it's exactly what you think it is."
"Roger has likely come for you."
"There aren't many people in this world capable of delivering a slash like that."
He glanced up toward the ceiling.
The crack in the stone roof had widened. Sunlight now streamed into the cell, and a cool sea breeze flowed through the room. The kerosene lamp in the corner had been snuffed out by the sudden draft.
"Captain Roger?! Is it really him?!"
"Hahaha! I knew it! I knew Captain Roger wouldn't leave us behind!"
"Hey! Navy! Let us out while you still can! Once Captain Roger gets here, he's going to kill you all!"
"Yoriichi, hurry up and let us out!"
Buggy leapt from his stone bed, ran to the bars, and began shaking them while laughing hysterically. For the first time since their capture, he looked genuinely overjoyed.
Roger's arrival had clearly lit a fire in him. The once disheartened Buggy was now brimming with arrogance.
But Shanks didn't share that energy. When Yoriichi confirmed that Roger might be here, his first reaction was joy, but it quickly faded into concern.
"Don't get ahead of yourself, Buggy."
"Even if the Roger Pirates really did come, that doesn't mean they'll be able to get us out."
"Right now, Lodestar Island is packed with elite Marine forces."
"Leading them is none other than Fleet Admiral Sengoku."
"And besides him, Vice Admiral Garp is also stationed here. Dozens of high-ranking officers are spread throughout the island."
"You two should know the current strength of the Roger Pirates better than anyone."
"Even for Roger, can he really break through the Navy's blockade?"
As Yoriichi spoke, he slid his sword back into its sheath at his waist. He glanced at Shanks, then turned to Buggy and added,
"See? Shanks is much more grounded than you."
Yoriichi looked at Shanks again.
Sensing his gaze, Shanks crossed his arms and quickly suppressed the worry on his face. He lifted his chin with pride.
"Captain Roger will break through. I believe in him."
"Your Navy can't stop him," Shanks declared. He turned back to the stone bed, plopped down, and gazed up through the ceiling crack at the sky above. His brows slowly furrowed, and he couldn't help but worry:
"Captain... are you really going to fight the Navy just for the two of us?"
"Everyone... please, stay safe."
A wave of emotion welled up in Shanks's chest. His vision blurred.
Yoriichi glanced back at the two prisoners one last time before stepping outside again. He picked up a wooden stool, placed it near the outer wall, and sat down facing the harbor.
At the port of Lodestar Island, Marines were already swarming the docks. The warships that had been stationed there were now departing one by one. Dozens of ships formed a blockade across the sea, sealing off the entrance to the harbor.
On the dock stood Sengoku and Garp, side by side. Both of them stared toward the distant waves, their faces grim.
"That guy Roger… he really is reckless," Sengoku muttered.
"It looks like we've truly pissed him off this time."
"Do you think going to war with him is really going to help maintain peace in the world?"
Garp crossed his arms and turned his head toward the massive fissure that now stretched across the entire island.
"We're way past that point, Garp," Sengoku snapped. "Capturing the Roger Pirates will send a message to every pirate in the world."
"Get ready, Garp. They're coming."
Just then, the tip of a mast appeared on the distant sea horizon.
Moments later, a red flag rose into view.
At the center of the flag was a skull with a golden, wave-shaped mustache.
The symbol of the Roger Pirates.
Garp couldn't help but grin at the sight of it.
Sengoku pulled out a Den Den Mushi from his coat and barked into the receiver:
"Attention all units. The Roger Pirates have appeared."
"All forces, prepare for battle. Every warship, turn your guns now."
"When they enter firing range, open fire immediately."
"I repeat, do not hesitate. Fire the moment they're in range."
As Sengoku's order echoed across the harbor, the air raid alarm blared again. The Navy warships turned in unison, side-facing toward the rapidly approaching Oro Jackson. Dozens of cannons aimed at the distant pirate ship.
Garp clenched his fists. The cracking of his knuckles echoed in the air as his blood surged with adrenaline.
WHOOMMMMM.
Suddenly, a deep, resonant hum filled the sky.
From the bow of the Oro Jackson, a dark slash streaked with red lightning blasted forth like a horizontal beam of death. As the slash hurtled forward, it rapidly expanded.
In an instant, it crossed the vast sea, tore through the front line of Navy warships, and swept across Lodestar Island, slicing a mountain clean in half.
A breeze rolled through the battlefield.
The masts of the Navy ships tilted, snapped, and fell into the sea.
At that moment, not a single Marine flag remained standing across the ocean.
