Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Zephyr Found the Item

Operation Fortress.

This was the codename for the battle plan developed by Admiral Sengoku, targeting the Roger Pirates.

Originally, the Marines had only picked up traces of Roger's crew operating in the New World, specifically around Lodestar Island. Pressured by the World Government, Steelbone Kong had no choice but to dispatch a large naval force into the New World to seek out and destroy the Roger Pirates.

Along the way, Sengoku had deployed search teams to track them down, but the results were underwhelming. Aside from provoking several notorious pirates, they hadn't achieved anything substantial.

In fact, many outstanding Marines had fallen during the journey from Marineford to Lodestar Island, swallowed by the dangers of the New World.

Bringing so many forces to this isolated island was already a gamble. Most of the top brass didn't hold out much hope of actually capturing Roger.

After all, the Roger Pirates weren't fools. Even though the Navy thought their plan was airtight, their movements had surely already been leaked. With an operation of this size, there was no way it could stay hidden from anyone paying attention.

But what Sengoku hadn't anticipated was that Aokiji's unit, the first to reach Lodestar Island, not only encountered and repelled Golden Lion Shiki but also managed to capture two of Roger's crewmates right on the island.

That unexpected outcome left Sengoku pleasantly surprised.

And it sparked a new plan in his mind.

Operation Fortress.

The plan was simple. Use Shanks and Buggy, two crew members from the Roger Pirates, as bait to lure Roger and the rest of his crew to Lodestar Island.

To prepare for the coming assault, Sengoku decided to turn the entire island into both a battlefield and a prison.

He was setting a trap, waiting for the Roger Pirates to walk straight into it.

Though Sengoku didn't know Roger as well as Garp did, he knew enough. Even if Shanks and Buggy were just small fry unworthy of a bounty, Roger wasn't the type to abandon his own.

Sengoku intended to make Lodestar Island the Roger Pirates' grave.

Today's meeting was convened to assign critical tasks to various divisions.

Evacuate all native inhabitants of Lodestar Island.

Construct defensive fortresses.

Spread the news of the captured Roger Pirates to lure the rest of the crew.

Patrol the surrounding seas and clear the area for combat.

As the meeting progressed, responsibilities were assigned. Vice Admiral Aokiji's unit was tasked with construction, and building the fortress became partly their responsibility.

After the meeting, Aokiji and Yoriichi exchanged a few words with Sengoku and Garp before returning to their ship and briefing their crew.

Once the Marines learned they were preparing for a showdown with the Roger Pirates, the whole crew was fired up like they'd been injected with pure adrenaline. The young recruits had no idea just how terrifying this battle would truly be.

As the order spread, a tense atmosphere settled over Lodestar Island.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the New World...

A News Coo soared through the sky, dropping a newspaper that fluttered down onto the deck of the Moby Dick.

Thatch happened to be walking past and noticed the newspaper. He picked it up casually and glanced at the headline. The next second, his eyes widened in shock. Gripping the paper tightly, he ran across the deck, yelling toward the man sitting beneath the mast, drinking from a massive jug of sake.

"Pops! Big news!"

"Something huge just happened!"

Whitebeard, holding his enormous sake gourd, turned slightly at Thatch's call and set it down with a curious look.

"What's got you all worked up, Thatch?"

"Whatever it is, I'm here."

Thatch thrust the paper toward him, pointing at the front-page headline in a flustered voice.

"War! The Navy's going to war with the Roger Pirates!"

"It's happening at Lodestar Island!"

The other crew members gathered around quickly, crowding the deck and peering at the newspaper in Whitebeard's hands.

Whitebeard stared at the headline. When he read that the Navy had captured two of Roger's crewmates, his expression turned serious for a moment, then he burst out laughing.

"Gurararara!"

"First Shiki, now Roger. You guys really don't hold back, do you, Sengoku? Garp?"

"Well, looks like we'll be joining this war too."

"And while we're at it, we'll go pick up Oden!"

With a thundering stomp, Whitebeard slammed his Murakumogiri onto the deck and leapt to his feet, shouting to his sons across the ship.

"Prepare to set sail, boys!"

"Target: Lodestar Island!"

Years ago, back when he sailed with Rocks, Whitebeard had already explored most of the New World. After recruiting Kozuki Oden onto his crew, they had traveled to even more places. Aside from the final island that required Road Poneglyphs to reach, Whitebeard had essentially completed a full world tour.

He'd been to Lodestar Island before, and they even had a permanent Log Pose for it onboard.

"Hahaha! Pops, if we're heading to Lodestar Island, that means we'll see Oden again, right?"

"It's been a while... I kinda miss the guy. Wonder how he's doing these days."

Marco grinned from behind Whitebeard.

Whitebeard smiled and replied, "He should be doing just fine."

"He's always been the kind of guy who loves new experiences."

He stared out toward the sea, a hint of longing flickering in his eyes.

At the same time Whitebeard was setting sail, the Roger Pirates, fresh out of Laugh Tale, had also received a newspaper from a News Coo.

Aboard the Oro Jackson, Roger stood at the bow, holding the paper. His joy at reaching Laugh Tale faded the moment he read the headline.

Rayleigh, standing nearby, noticed the change in Roger's expression and asked, "Roger? You alright?"

"Not feeling well?"

"Should I get Crocus?"

Roger shook his head and handed the paper to Rayleigh. He had already composed himself, and laughed loudly as he spoke:

"Shanks and Buggy, those two brats, got caught by the Navy."

"Looks like it's time for a proper showdown with Garp and Sengoku, hahahaha!"

With that, Roger turned and ordered the helmsman to pick up speed, heading straight for Lodestar Island.

It was obviously a trap laid by the Navy.

Roger didn't care in the slightest.

He stepped on it anyway.

Storm clouds brewed across the New World.

Meanwhile, back at Marineford, the headquarters was unusually quiet.

With most of the Marine forces deployed into the New World, only a skeleton crew remained at HQ. Surprisingly, no pirates had taken advantage of the weakened defense.

On that day, in the office of former Admiral Zephyr, an important guest arrived.

Knock knock knock.

Zephyr, in the middle of reviewing documents, looked up and called out:

"Come in."

The door opened to reveal a young Marine in a red suit with a white Justice cloak. He stepped in quickly, holding a small golden treasure chest in one hand.

Seeing who it was, Zephyr's smile widened and he greeted him first:

"Oh! Sakazuki, huh?"

"You don't drop by often. What brings you here?"

"That thing you're holding..."

Zephyr's eyes lit up with curiosity.

"Teacher Zephyr, I found what you asked me to look for."

"I'm not sure if it's exactly what you wanted, though."

With that, Sakazuki set the chest down in front of Zephyr and gently opened it.

Inside was a round white Devil Fruit, covered in swirling cloud patterns.

The moment he saw it, Zephyr's pupils contracted slightly. He looked up at Sakazuki.

"A Logia-class Devil Fruit."

"Teacher Zephyr, I found one for you."
