Chapter 12: Chapter 12 Indigo's Shock

"That kid is a liar!"

Indigo walked ahead, each step making a squelching sound, while turning back to badmouth Reddy. "I am the professional here. To obtain a qualified sample, it takes at least three years to see results. He clearly just wants to freeload here for three years."

"Gehahahaha... Just three years, Indigo."

Golden Lion Shiki laughed loudly while chewing on his cigar. Three years was nothing—he had already waited eleven years since escaping Impel Down. He could wait a little longer.

Indigo forced a smile and continued to slander Reddy. "What he said has no basis at all. Even Vegapunk can't achieve it, so how can he?"

Shikareta covered his mouth and let out a muffled laugh, his shoulders shaking as if he had heard something hilarious.

"Only a little over a month has passed. I only care about results."

Golden Lion Shiki flicked the ash off his cigar, his face twisting into a fierce grin. "If he can't deliver what he promised, I'll make sure he regrets lying to me."

"I have many interesting ideas but lack a suitable test subject. That kid would be perfect—he can give me precise experimental data."

Indigo had been waiting for this promise from Golden Lion Shiki and quickly expressed his desire to use Reddy as a test subject.

"If he produces no results, then he's yours. Now, take me to see your latest creation." Golden Lion Shiki readily agreed to Indigo's request.

Satisfied, Indigo led Golden Lion Shiki and Shikareta out of the castle, passing through the barrier of Daft Green trees and arriving in the wilderness.

"Where is your creation?"

Golden Lion Shiki chewed on his cigar and looked around, seeing nothing new. His impatience grew.

Just then, a dust cloud rose in the distance.

Indigo covered his mouth with his sleeve and smirked. "It's coming."

Golden Lion Shiki's anger turned to excitement as he looked in that direction.

Soon, a massive creature came charging from afar. Though still several kilometers away, the ground had already begun to tremble faintly.

"This is my latest masterpiece!"

Indigo spread his arms and proudly boasted to Golden Lion Shiki. "It possesses terrifying strength—one stomp can collapse a cliff. To control it, at least twenty or thirty people die during each experiment."

"Gehahahaha... I like it."

Golden Lion Shiki chewed on his cigar, his eyes gleaming as he stared at the approaching behemoth. Feeling the increasingly intense tremors beneath his feet, he laughed like an old sunflower.

Before long, accompanied by a deep rumbling, the massive creature arrived nearby, chased by a large group of the Flying Pirate Crew members.

"Lord Shiki is over there, drive it somewhere else!"

The pirates drew their bows, and a volley of arrows arced through the air, raining down in front of the frenzied beast, trying to force it to change direction.

But everyone had underestimated the horror of the frenzied beast.

Upon spotting Golden Lion Shiki and the other two, the beast's eyes turned blood-red. It completely ignored the arrows and roared as it charged straight at them.

The arrows landed, embedding densely into the beast's back.

Unfazed by pain, it only grew more frenzied from the stimulation, its speed doubling.

"Gehahahaha... Let me test its strength."

Golden Lion Shiki floated into the air, then swung his right foot, sending a slash attack straight at the beast's forehead.

Blood splattered.

The slash left a deep gash on the beast's head, the force sending its over-five-meter-tall body flying. It landed more than twenty meters away, plowing a trench over ten meters long before finally stopping.

Everyone was stunned.

Such a terrifying frenzied beast had been taken down in a single strike?

"Take it away. I need to examine it."

Indigo ordered his men to haul the beast away, gritting his teeth as he resolved to study it further and create an even better specimen.

Golden Lion Shiki flicked his cigar ash and grinned. "That strike just now could defeat a Marine rear admiral. If you can create a frenzied beast that can withstand that, my dream will be realized."

He smacked his lips, his face full of anticipation. "Now I'm even more curious whether he can create the bioweapon I envision."

Shikareta clapped his hands and laughed, mocking Indigo for losing to Reddy—at least in Golden Lion Shiki's eyes.

Indigo angrily turned and left.

Returning to his lab, he happened to see the door across the hallway open.

Indigo's gaze quickly swept past Reddy and into the lab. His expression instantly changed.

The interior of the lab was no longer the same as it had been a month ago. A massive glass cultivation tank filled with nutrient fluid stood inside, and a nearly four-meter-tall bear, covered in tubes, floated silently within.

"You've already succeeded?"

Indigo's eyes nearly popped out of his head, completely unable to believe what he was seeing.

How could such a massive beast be created from scratch in just over a month?

What have I been doing all this time?

When did that kid even leave the lab?

Or is someone secretly helping him?

Countless thoughts raced through Indigo's mind. This was completely unscientific!

Reddy looked at him with a strange expression.

How long does it take to make a bioweapon?

If not for wanting to leech more energy, he could have presented a finished product on the very first day he got the lab. Would Indigo believe that?

Indigo snapped out of it, rubbing his eyes and looking again.

This time, he noticed more details, and his entire body went numb.

The bear in the tank was covered in glossy black scales, with long, sharp fangs protruding past its lips and claws like small daggers.

No matter how you looked at it, this was a ruthless war machine.

Since Indigo had already seen it, Reddy stopped pretending. Smiling, he asked, "How much longer do you need to produce your masterpiece? I can wait."

Indigo's face darkened instantly, and he turned to enter his own lab.

Reddy shrugged and returned to his lab, pressing a button to summon Bill.

Soon, Bill arrived, panting heavily.

The past month had felt like a nightmare to him.

Aside from that first day when Reddy had him collect sea king blood, his only job for over a month had been delivering plates of sea king meat from the kitchen to the lab—without even being allowed inside.

Life had become monotonous, dull, and tedious. He'd rather be out at sea robbing ships or kidnapping people.

"Lord Reddy, what are your orders?"

Bill's attitude toward Reddy had completely changed. He now regarded him as a god. After all, anyone who witnessed the birth of that giant bear from nothing in a month would think the same.

"Go tell Golden Lion that my creation is complete."

Reddy smiled, openly letting Bill see the massive cultivation tank inside the lab.

The bear inside the tank suddenly opened its eyes.

Bill jumped in fright, stammering as he pointed at the tank. "M-My lord, it... it seems to have woken up."

Reddy glanced back and shrugged. "Don't overreact. This just means it's fully matured."
