Chapter 26: The Slap Heard 'Round The world
The Thousand Sunny sailed smoothly through the Grand Line, its crew enjoying a rare moment of peace. But as always, peace didn't last long with Luffy.
"Guys! I know where we should go next!" Luffy shouted, standing atop the figurehead with an excited grin plastered across his face.
"What is it now, Captain?" Zoro asked, leaning back against the railing, half-asleep.
"The Choraka Islands!" Luffy declared, pointing toward the horizon.
Dead silence.
"The Choraka Islands?" Nami's voice was low, filled with disbelief. "Luffy, are you insane?! That place is literally known as *Suicide Island*. No one who's gone there has ever come back!"
"Exactly!" Luffy said, his grin widening. "That's why we have to go! It sounds awesome!"
"No," Franky said flatly from his spot at the ship's helm. "Not happening, Captain."
Luffy frowned. "But Franky, come on! We have the Sunny—she can handle anything!"
"I said no," Franky repeated, crossing his arms.
Luffy didn't seem to hear him. "Fine, I'll steer us there myself!" he shouted, dashing to the wheel.
"Luffy, stop!" Nami yelled, chasing after him.
But before anyone could intervene, Kikidori stood in front of the wheel, blocking Luffy's path.
"Move, Kikidori!" Luffy said, trying to push past him.
"No," Kikidori said firmly. "We're not going to some crazy island just because you think it's 'awesome.'"
"Kiki, it's fine! I can handle it!" Luffy argued, still trying to grab the wheel.
Frustrated, Kikidori raised his hand and—*SLAP!*
The sound echoed across the ship, and everyone froze.
Kikidori stood there, his hand still raised, trembling slightly. "Luffy... stop being so reckless," he said, his voice shaking. "You're the captain. You're supposed to lead us, not get us killed!"
Luffy blinked, his cheek red from the slap. For a moment, it seemed like he might get angry, but instead, he smiled.
"Alright," Luffy said, stepping back from the wheel. "You're right, Kiki. We won't go."
Everyone let out a collective sigh of relief, except for Zoro, who smirked faintly. "Didn't think the kid had it in him."
---
Unbeknownst to the crew, a Marine ship had been silently trailing them, its captain watching the exchange through binoculars.
"Did... did that kid just slap the Yonko, Straw Hat Luffy?" one Marine whispered, incredulous.
"It's true," the captain said, lowering the binoculars. "And Straw Hat didn't even retaliate. Update that boy's bounty immediately. Anyone bold enough to slap a Yonko is a serious threat."
The Marine scribbled furiously, drafting an updated bounty poster for Kikidori.
Back on the Sunny, things had returned to normal—almost.
"Did you really have to slap him?" Chopper asked, inspecting Kikidori's hand for any swelling.
"He wasn't listening!" Kikidori said, defending himself.
Robin chuckled softly, ruffling Kikidori's hair. "Well, you certainly got his attention."
Sanji placed a plate of food in front of Kikidori. "That's the most daring thing I've seen all day, kid. You've earned yourself a meal."
Kikidori smiled sheepishly. "Thanks."
As night fell, Kikidori sat on the deck, staring up at the stars. He didn't know it yet, but his bold action that day would soon make him infamous across the seas.
