Chapter 31: Chapter 31: A Moment to Breathe
The ocean stretched for miles, waves pounding against their ship in the wave's rhythmic dance. The bitter struggle against the Marines had ended, but it left a sense in Solian and his men. They'd won with their lives, treasure on a full ship, but most of all—their newfound celebrity.
Now, they needed to have some time to recover, regroup, and plan their next move.
On Board the Ship
Solian leaned against the mast, looking up at the expansive blue sky. The tension of the past couple of days was still not out of him. His muscles still ached from pushing his Devil Fruit to its limits, and he could tell the others were feeling much the same.
Kael stood with one foot against a crate of wood, rolling his shoulders, releasing a heavy sigh. "Damn. never thought to see my own bounty poster so soon."
Jorin grinned, sending a rolled-up bounty notice sailing onto the deck. "Not just any bounty, Kael. We're big shots now officially."
They unrolled their brand-new bounty posters, one at a time, straight from the Marines' press.
Solian Flare – 65,000,000 Berries
Kael "Breakfist" Dain – 48,000,000 Berries
Jorin "Phantom Blade" Voss – 42,000,000 Berries
Drayce Ornn – 38,000,000 Berries
Jorin smiled, glancing at Solian. "So, Captain, you're the most valuable. Feels good, right?"
Solian sighed, folding the bounty paper in his hands. "Not really. This will mean harder enemies will start to pursue us. The Marines won't let this go."
Drayce, who had remained quiet for so long, finally spoke. "We require a proper plan. More strength. More resources. If we don't prepare, we'll get hunted down."
The World's Reaction
Marine Headquarters – Grand Line
A Marine officer pounded his fist on the table, and the bounty posters scattered on it trembled.
"This nobody crew destroyed one of our headquarters, murdered a lieutenant, and stole 60 million berries!" He spat the words out in pure frustration. "They should have been eradicated!"
Seated quietly opposite him was a senior officer, stirring a cup of tea. His fierce stare studied the wanted posters carefully.
"You're right, that captain, Solian Flare… he is the problem." He put the paper down. "A Logia user with an unknown Devil Fruit, which can control solar power and portals." He let out a heavy breath. "If not contained, he can become a major threat."
"What do we do?" the first officer asked.
The higher-ranking Marine sneered. "We wait. They will get too arrogant, and when they do…" His voice turned menacing. "We strike."
A Pirate Den – Sabaody Archipelago
A group of infamous bounty hunters huddled in a dimly lit tavern, a pile of fresh bounty posters on the table before them. One of them, a giant of a man with facial scars, picked up Solian's wanted poster, reading it with amusement.
"65 million, huh?" He grinned, revealing sharp teeth.
"Not bad for a rookie."
Another bounty hunter leaned forward. "You interested, Cedric?"
Cedric laughed, flinging the poster back onto the table. "Perhaps. But let's see how far he gets first." He grabbed his drink, downing a long swig. "No use chasing someone who ain't worth even more later."
Training and Growth
Back on the ship, Solian knew they couldn't just sit around for long. He had unlocked two new abilities—Plasma Strike and Solar Afterimage—but he had barely tested them out.
"Alright," Solian clapped his hands together. "We must train and refine our abilities before heading to another island. Or else. next time we won't get away so easily."
Kael grinned. "Finally, something happens. I was bored."
Jorin sneered. "Let's see how much stronger we really are."
Drayce simply nodded. "And we should practice fighting together, too. If we fight like we did the last time, against someone who's stronger, we'll lose."
Solian's eyes sharpened. He concurred completely.
This new life within the Grand Line would not be easy, but if they managed their cards—
They would not just survive. They would win.
