Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Hunted by the Marines
The air was heavy with stifling tension.
Solian perched on the edge of a rooftop, looking out over the formerly busy streets of the port town. Overnight, it had transformed.
Marines flooded the area.
They traveled in synchronized units, halting civilians, interrogating merchants, and even raiding buildings. Solian Flare wanted posters – 8,000,000 Berries were stuck on walls, his face now familiar.
"Tch… They're not joking about this."
He witnessed a band of officers rushing into a tavern and dragging out a man who somewhat resembled him. The unfortunate fellow begged and shrieked, vowing he wasn't Solian, but they took no notice. The Marines were after him like a maddened hound.
There were hundreds of them.
More than he could manage in a straight-up battle, even with his recent increase in power. He could sense the change in his body after a month of training and distributing system points, but he was not arrogant enough to believe he could handle an entire Marine force in a straight-up battle.
He had to be smart.
Slipping in unnoticed would be ideal, but the problem was that the entire port was closed off. No ships were leaving, and Marine warships were stationed just outside the bay, with no way out by sea.
They were closing off each avenue.
And that's when it happened.
System Notification:
The whole world is looking up to you.
A decision has been made.
1. Fight Back – Kill 100 Marine officers and defeat the lieutenant leading the hunt. Reward: 10 System Points.
2. Flee – No reward.
Solian's breath caught.
The process was presenting him with a choice—one that would shape his destiny.
If he fought back, then he was essentially fighting against the Marines. He was already a criminal, but if he murdered a Marine lieutenant, then he would be an official enemy of the World Government. He would have the largest bounty there was. His life would never be the same.
But the prize… 10 System Points.
That was huge. With that kind of point score, he could take his Devil Fruit powers further, increase his teleportation, make his flames stronger—he'd be so much more powerful instantly.
But if he ran… he'd gain nothing.
Nothing except a temporary escape.
His fingers curled into fists.
It wasn't right. He did not deserve this. He had been manipulated by the lieutenant and now was being made to decide something that would be the determining factor in his life for the remainder of his days. Solian exhaled, closing his eyes for a moment. If the Marines thought he was weak prey, they were about to learn exactly who they were hunting.
He made his decision.
