Chapter 45: Ch 45. The Furious Akainu, Devil Fruit Awakening

The Den Den Mushi was quickly connected.

A colonel immediately reported, "Fleet Admiral, sir! I'm a colonel under Vice Admiral Akainu. Right now, he's battling a monstrous being wrapped in a cloak!"

"The mysterious figure?"

"No, the real mysterious figure is observing from a distance. The one fighting Akainu looks like a small mountain — massive and built like a small warship!"

"So, there are two mysterious figures?! And Akainu… that fool charged in without knowing anything?!"

When Sengoku had dispatched Akainu, he'd hesitated slightly.

He feared that Akainu's rigid sense of justice would lead to reckless action.

That's why, before sending him out, Sengoku had repeatedly emphasized caution.

But clearly, Akainu still acted on his own terms.

"What's the situation now?!"

The colonel glanced at the sky. "Vice Admiral Akainu seems to want to end the fight quickly, but the opponent's recovery is insane. Every attack he lands heals almost instantly!"

Upon hearing this, Sengoku, back in Marineford, could feel fury welling in his chest.

Worse, he now knew — the cloaked figure wasn't alone. There were others.

A group? An organization?

BANG!

With a roar of rage, Sengoku smashed the desk in front of him.

While he was tied down, busy with other matters, and the mysterious individual watching like a predator, Akainu was busy disregarding orders and Marine discipline.

Did he just waltz up to their doorstep and deliver himself like a gift?

Truth be told, Akainu was already inwardly screaming.

After hellish training, he had grown far stronger.

In his mind, he believed his power was already enough to match Roman!

And he still hadn't used his trump card…

But who could've predicted this monster had absurd regeneration?

No matter how deep he slashed or how hard he punched, Weevil's wounds would heal within seconds.

Endless stamina, too. How the hell was he supposed to win?

Retreat?

That word didn't exist in Akainu's dictionary.

Justice could never fall to evil!

…But Sengoku didn't see it that way!

"I'm giving you authority to command. Prepare for immediate retreat! Tell Akainu—if he can break away, fall back immediately. Leave Ohara alone for now!"

With that, Sengoku hung up.

Even from just the Den Den Mushi's report, Sengoku had a massive headache.

Multiple mysterious figures… possibly a whole organization?

That meant Ohara was far more dangerous than expected. But with the New World already in chaos, the Marines had too much on their plate.

While Roman's actions had helped restore some of the Marines' honor…

Akainu's reckless charge was throwing it all away again.

"That bastard Akainu… always making things worse!"

Meanwhile…

The Marines stationed in Ohara's waters had already begun organizing an orderly retreat.

Akainu, battling in the skies, immediately noticed this.

Just then, he'd been punched hard by Weevil, and his already fiery temper exploded.

"You're all deserting in the middle of battle?! Anyone who dares retreat will be court-martialed!"

But the colonel on the ship finally snapped.

He gathered his courage and shouted at Akainu, "You broke military discipline first! Besides, Fleet Admiral Sengoku gave me full command! I order you to retreat—immediately!"

A round of thunderous applause broke out among the soldiers aboard the ship.

They had all had enough of Akainu.

Now, seeing a colonel publicly scold Vice Admiral Akainu… it was unheard of!

A real eye-opener.

Not just for the Marines.

Even Roman, Robin, and Olvia were shocked.

Olvia smirked and nudged Roman. "Is your Marine this chaotic all the time?"

"Who knows? Sengoku's intentions were good, but he underestimated Akainu's personality. That man's been waiting for this day too long. No way was he going to act cautiously. So yes, the fault lies with him."

"Because of Akainu, this whole operation has turned into a joke. An entertaining one, though, wouldn't you say?"

Robin chuckled and nodded hard beside Roman.

"But I'm getting bored. Since they're retreating, let's send them off with a gift. No way I'm letting them come here for free. After all, I'm standing on the opposite side of the Marines now."

As he spoke, Roman slowly unsheathed Ryūjin Jakka.

"Weevil, fall back."

Roman's voice was deep and commanding.

Weevil obeyed instantly, turning his back on Akainu without a care.

Even as Akainu's attacks struck him, he just kept regenerating.

Akainu's brows furrowed deeply.

Weevil was retreating, but he could feel a terrifying energy locking onto him.

Danger surrounded him.

He looked toward Roman, thoughts racing: Is he about to strike?!

Just then, flames roared into the sky.

A crushing, arrogant, and overwhelming spiritual pressure—like Conqueror's Haki—descended on Akainu, forcing his body to tremble.

"His Conqueror's Haki… It's gotten even stronger!"

Only now did Akainu realize:

It wasn't just him who had grown stronger.

Roman… was also moving forward!

Akainu's tightly clenched jaw began to bleed.

But his unshakable justice wouldn't allow retreat.

He'd rather die than bow to evil!

With that thought, Akainu decided to go all out!

"Awaken—Meteor Volcano!"

The clouds overhead transformed into blazing flames.

His Devil Fruit power warped the very atmosphere.

The scorching pressure fell like a curtain of fire.

Akainu unleashed his power to the limit.

"Let me show you the result of all my training—Devil Fruit Awakening!"

As his voice thundered, the skies filled with flaming meteors.

Each like a giant molten fist, raining down on Ohara.

The retreating Marines froze.

They hadn't expected that Akainu had still been holding back.

No wonder he thought he could take on two mysterious foes alone.

"This kind of attack… is insane!"

"Every lava fist seems insanely powerful!"

"If it's the current Akainu… maybe he can fight the two at once!"

The Marines continued retreating, overwhelmed by the oppressive heat.

But they didn't feel Roman's terrifying aura… if they had, they wouldn't be saying such things.

Beneath his cloak, Roman's lips curved slightly.

The flames began to retract as he whispered—
