Chapter 43: Ch 43. Mission Deployment, Akainu Strikes
Marineford.
Inside the Fleet Admiral's office, Sengoku stood by the window, quietly observing the two figures clashing intensely on the training grounds below—Kalifa and Hina. A sigh escaped his lips.
No one understood Roman's strength better than Sengoku.
That peak-level Armament Haki alone… was enough to make him nearly untouchable on this vast ocean.
"He must have been delayed by something... or caught up in trouble."
Another sigh.
Sengoku turned back to his desk and picked up a mission plan.
Originally, this mission was meant for Roman—his strength ensured the highest chance of success. But now, with Roman still missing, Sengoku had no choice but to assign someone else.
Akainu.
Kizaru was currently on shift and couldn't leave Marineford unless it was an emergency. Aokiji had his hands full with other tasks.
Thus, Akainu was the only viable option.
Moments later, Akainu strode into the office.
"Fleet Admiral, sir!"
Saluting with rigid military precision, he awaited the briefing.
Sengoku didn't waste time.
"According to the Intel Division, Ohara hasn't changed much. There's now a new barrier—some kind of wall of tree roots—but that's it. The mysterious powerhouse hasn't appeared again.
We suspect Ohara currently lacks any significant combat strength.
Your mission is to probe them. If you confirm the absence of strong defenders, destroy the island. If you encounter trouble, call for backup—we'll support you immediately."
Upon hearing the words "Ohara", a dark rage flickered in Akainu's eyes. That previous battle… the shame of it still burned in his chest.
Since then, he had tripled his training. Especially after being defeated by Roman.
Now, he was stronger than ever.
"Understood! Mission will be completed. Justice shall prevail!"
With those cold, steel-forged words, Akainu turned and left.
This time, he would wipe away his disgrace—and erase Ohara in its entirety from the map.
Two days later.
Roman sat on the edge of the great Noah's Ark, eyes fixed on the clouds below.
Finally, he could see the distant outline of a towering tree piercing the sky—the Tree of Knowledge.
"Back at last… I wonder if Robin missed me?"
A small smile tugged at his lips.
But he knew he was running on borrowed time. So he didn't dawdle too long. With a surge of power from his Rooster Talisman, Noah's Ark began its descent toward Ohara.
He planned to greet Robin and then head straight for Marineford.
Ohara.
On the shore, Robin was training her abilities when her expression stiffened.
"Mama… I think something dangerous is approaching."
Olvia, looking up, gasped as the massive ship slowly descended from the sky.
"That's… that's Noah's Ark!
How is that possible?! According to ancient records, it should be near Fishman Island!
For it to appear here—descending from the sky—just how powerful must someone be to achieve this?!"
"Robin, we must warn the scholars. Get ready to evacuate!"
But Robin's tone was grim.
"It's too late, Mama."
The ship descended like a mountain, casting a massive shadow. Then—
Boom!
A colossal figure crashed down, shaking the ground as dust billowed outward.
Robin and Olvia's foreheads broke into cold sweat.
Then, a familiar voice drifted over with the breeze.
"Robin, long time no see."
Even before they saw him, they knew that voice.
Robin's heart leapt. The voice she'd longed for day and night.
"Roman… Roman-nii!!"
Floating gently down from the sky after stowing Noah's Ark back into his system, Roman landed like a feather.
Robin dashed forward and leapt into his arms.
"Roman-nii, it's really you! You're finally here—I missed you so much!"
She clung to him tightly, as if she never wanted to let go.
That familiar scent made her feel safe again.
Beside them, Olvia watched silently, her worry melting into quiet relief.
"Roman, this person behind you…"
She eyed the towering figure, still radiating a quiet menace aura.
"Oh, him? He's like a humanoid weapon. He's here to protect you all."
Roman turned to the giant.
"Weevil, from now on, listen to these two."
"Yes, sir!"
Weevil's voice was low and steady.
Robin asked curiously, "Is he strong?"
"Not bad," Roman smiled. "Right now, he has the strength of Whitebeard in his prime."
Olvia's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Wh-Whitebeard? In his prime youth?!"
As someone who once roamed the Grand Line, she was no stranger to Whitebeard's terrifying name—one of the Four Emperors. The Strongest Man in the World.
Now, this young man… possessed that same power?
"Roman… how did you meet someone like him?"
"He was my enemy," Roman replied with a casual shrug. "Now… he follows me."
Olvia covered her mouth in shock.
If Weevil, who had Whitebeard's power, was defeated and subdued by Roman…
Then, just how terrifying was Roman's true strength?
But then again, this was the man who had single-handedly destroyed a Buster Call. So it wasn't that unbelievable.
"But… what happens after you leave?"
Olvia's worry returned.
Roman reassured her.
"Just give him orders. Any order. He'll obey. No problem."
But just as the words left his mouth—
BOOM!
The sound of distant cannon fire shattered the calm.
Warships.
Several of them.
Charging toward Ohara at full force.
