Chapter 36: Ch 36. Arrogant Kuro, Taste Despair
Usopp never imagined that the tale he had just spun out of pure imagination...
Would actually unfold right before his very eyes.
He had to tell Kaya!
With that thought blazing in his mind, Usopp turned and ran with everything he had, shouting at the top of his lungs,
"Ka—!!!"
But he didn't even finish his sentence before—
Schlick!
Kuro's ten-blade Cat Claw pierced straight through Usopp's chest.
His blood coated the cold, curved steel.
A surge of unbearable pain shot directly to his brain.
The darkness loomed, ready to devour him whole.
But—at this moment, of all times!
He couldn't!
He absolutely couldn't shrink back like before!
His dream... was to be a brave warrior of the sea!
He'd spent so long being a coward—if he could just muster a shred of courage now, even in death, then so be it!
"Kaya! RUN!!!"
His scream tore through the air, a desperate, soul-wrenching cry that sent chills down the spine of all who heard it.
Without hesitation, Usopp threw himself backward—
Letting Kuro's Cat Claw carve even deeper into him.
All just to buy Kaya and the others more time!
Even Kuro hadn't expected Usopp to pull such a move.
He staggered, knocked back and thrown off balance by Usopp's desperate lunge.
But Usopp's voice had already reached Kaya and her parents.
Kuro yanked his claw out from Usopp's body.
Blood dripped from the blades.
He casually adjusted his glasses with a finger, then muttered to himself, "Now that my identity's blown... it seems I'll just have to kill all of you."
His eyes gleamed with killing intent as he looked at Kaya's parents stepping out of the mansion.
"I... I won't let you touch a single hair on Kaya's head!"
Though heavily wounded, Usopp's will burned bright.
Fighting off dizziness, he reached out with a bloodied hand and grabbed Kuro's ankle.
At that very moment, Kaya descended from upstairs.
She couldn't believe it.
The gentle looking man she'd trusted just moments ago...
Had turned into a murderous monster.
Already pale to begin with, her face went ghost white.
Kuro raised his foot high—And..
CRUNCH!
Stomped down on Usopp's hand, mangling it beneath his heel.
Emotionless, he advanced toward Kaya and her parents.
His ten-blade Cat Claw scraped along the ground with a shrill, metallic screech.
Like death's harbinger.
Kuro raised his claw high, sunlight glinting off its razor edges with a chilling gleam.
And then—The blades came down.
Slash!
A burst of blood bloomed from Kaya's parents' chests.
They collapsed.
Kaya froze in terror.
She tried to run—But her legs wouldn't obey. They felt heavy, like they were anchored to the ground.
"It's all that long-nosed brat's fault," Kuro sneered. "If he hadn't spoken up, I wouldn't have had to act so soon."
He chuckled darkly. "But thanks to him, you and your parents got to live just a little shorter."
Kuro raised his claws again—This time, aimed at Kaya!
Meanwhile...
Roman and Jango were sprinting toward the manor.
Suddenly, a shrill, desperate cry pierced the air.
Roman's brow furrowed. He locked onto the direction.
Boom!
His legs blurred into afterimages, launching off the ground with explosive speed.
"Shave (Soru)!"
Jango saw a phantom flicker past, followed by a cloud of dust and cracked earth.
His jaw dropped.
"Was that... Admiral White Dove? Just his speed alone puts most people to shame!"
CLANG!!!
A sharp, ringing clash echoed across Syrup Village.
Roman appeared in front of Kaya like a ghost.
His arm wrapped in peak-level Armament Haki, he effortlessly blocked Kuro's killing blow.
Kuro's arm went numb.
His right-hand claw shattered on impact, splintering into useless shards.
Roman's white cloak flared behind him.
He stood protectively before Kaya.
Blood was everywhere. Usopp lay on the ground. Kaya's parents too.
A storm of rage erupted from Roman.
"Kuro of a Hundred Plans... you've genuinely made me angry."
Since entering the One Piece world, Roman had never truly lost his temper.
Until now.
The wind howled.
Dark clouds gathered.
Thunder cracked ominously overhead.
"You'll pay the price for your actions!"
Roman launched a kick.
Kuro didn't even have time to react.
BOOM!
Kuro flew like a ragdoll, sailing hundreds of meters through the air.
But before he could hit the ground—
Shave!
Roman flashed behind him again.
He wasn't going to give him even a second to react.
"Finger Pistol(Shigan) – Bitter Lotus!"
Bending his finger, Roman jabbed it forward at blinding speed.
Again. And again. And again. Changing directions with each blow.
His finger struck with pinpoint fury, piercing into Kuro from all angles.
This wasn't just punishment. This was vengeance.
Death would've been a mercy. But Roman wanted him to feel true despair. To know fear.
Blood spurted from Kuro's back like a fountain.
When Roman finally stopped, Kuro dropped to his knees, coughing blood.
Shaking, he wiped the red from his lips with the remnants of his claw.
"You... You forced me!" he gasped. "Once I use this move, no one here will survive!"
"Shakushi(Out of the Bag Attack)!"
Kuro shouted the name of his strongest technique.
A frenzied, high-speed claw dance, so fast even the user couldn't tell where they'd strike next. A true area-of-effect massacre!
He disappeared.
"Shhhhk! Shhhhk!"
Tree trunks, rocks, the ground itself—All bore fresh claw marks.
Kaya cried out, "Roman! Be careful!"
But Roman's eyes glinted with a cold, lethal light.
"I'm in a bad mood," he said flatly.
"I won't bother watching your Shakushi."
"Now—die."
He appeared before Kuro in an instant. Speed? Roman scoffed at it.
To him, it was child's play.
WHAM!
Roman's palm slammed into Kuro's head.
Kuro didn't even have time to blink before—
BOOM!
He was smashed into the earth.
The ground shattered.
Cracks spiderwebbed across 100 meters.
Trees snapped. The shockwave roared.
Jango arrived just in time to witness the scene.
Time seemed to freeze. The pirate captain he once viewed as unstoppable—
Flattened. Crushed like an ant.
"W-What... What kind of monster is this?!"
"Is this... the power of an Admiral?!"
"Too strong... Just too strong!"
Jango could only gape in awe. And terror.
He felt his entire worldview was collapsing.
