Chapter 4: SHADOWS OF GOD VALLEY-1
DAY OF THE GOD VALLEY INCIDENT—
It had been ten long years since John Carter was reborn into the world of One Piece, now bearing the name Saint Robert Van Figarland. In those ten years, much had changed—both across the world and within the Holy Land of Mary Geoise.
Robert's presence alone had reshaped the elite halls of power. A child prodigy, a once-in-a-generation genius, his meteoric rise sent shockwaves through the ranks. Seeing someone so young—no older than ten—outpace seasoned elites lit a fire under many. Soldiers, heirs of the Noble Houses, and even a few God Knights threw themselves into rigorous training, desperate not to be left behind by a child.
Even the likes of Saint Garling Figarland and Saint Maria de Van Astrea, astonished by their son's monstrous talent, had returned to training themselves. Under their direction, a new military regimen was enforced. For the first time in generations, Celestial Dragons—creatures of decadence—voluntarily enrolled their children in martial instruction. The shift was undeniable, and the Five Elders watched the young Figarland with silent admiration.
Robert hadn't issued a single command. He didn't need to. His existence alone had reformed the military machine of the World Government. The new regimen produced results—elite graduates, powerful and precise, began emerging in waves. The Navy soon adopted the same methods. Under the leadership of Fleet Admiral Kong, the Marines swept across the seas with renewed might, toppling pirate factions with ruthless efficiency. The world shifted.
The seas, once ruled by pirates, were now under the dominion of a reformed and relentless Navy. One after another, pirate strongholds crumbled beneath the banner of Justice. But not all shared in the momentum. The Five Elders, watching the scale tip too far, issued a secret order to Kong: withdraw the forces.
To them, pirates were a necessary evil—shadows used to control the light. A world without fear was a world too difficult to rule. So, with great reluctance, Kong obeyed. The Marines were pulled back, and the pirates—those lucky enough to survive—were allowed to continue roaming the seas.
Robert, unaware of the timeline he had unraveled, remained indifferent. And even if he had known, he would've simply shrugged it off. What mattered to him wasn't the weight of history or the fate of empires. What mattered was today—this infamous, blood-soaked day: the God Valley Incident.
A day that would be etched into history as a black mark against the World Government.
Today was the "Native Hunting Competition," as the nobles so casually called it. God Valley, an island unaffiliated with the World Government, had been chosen as the arena.
Two weeks before, the King of God Valley had been approached by CP0. He was told to gather his citizens in the central plaza and prepare to welcome the visiting nobles. The poor man, thinking this was a divine honor, believed his kingdom was to be graced by the so-called "Creators of the World." He never imagined he and his people were to be hunted like wild game—for sport.
Robert exhaled slowly, reclining in the lavish quarters aboard his private vessel—a gift from the Five Elders themselves. The other Celestial Dragons, escorted by the God Knights, had already left Mary Geoise. Within the hour, they would make landfall at God Valley.
His mind wandered to the Rocks Pirates.
The infamous Rocks D. Xebec—who would've thought he was once a king of a World Government-affiliated kingdom? Years ago, during the Reverie, Robert had caught wind of a quiet scandal. A man had killed a Marine Admiral and escaped the Holy Land. That man was Rocks D. Xebec.
Not long after, a bounty was issued. Rocks was stripped of his title. The kingdom he once ruled? Obliterated by a Buster Call.
Erased from history.
A knock at the door broke his thoughts.
"Master Robert, we've arrived," came Rose's voice from outside.
"I'll be right there," he answered. He changed into the ceremonial attire his mother had prepared and stepped onto the deck. The island loomed in the distance. One by one, ships docked at the port.
Celestial Dragons disembarked with God Knights, CP0 agents, and elite guards in tow. Robert scanned the crowd. Marines had already set up a perimeter, surrounding the island with vessels. His gaze settled on Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, leaning on his wooden cane. Beside him stood Saint Garling Figarland and Saint Maria de Van Astrea. The trio made their way toward the King of God Valley—who still smiled, blissfully unaware.
"Robert, we should head to the camp," said a calm voice behind him.
Saint Lisa Vermillion—his stepmother, Garling's second wife. Just weeks ago, she had given birth to twins. Afterward, Garling had told Robert to name them. When he asked why, his father had simply shrugged. So, he named them both with a strange sense of humor—Shamrock and Shanks.
Robert nodded and turned to his two closest companions: Rose, his ever-loyal maid, and Kuma, his so-called "slave" and personal guard. Rose wore her usual black-and-white uniform. Kuma, dressed in a soldier's attire, stood tall beside her.
"Let's go," Robert said, and together, they followed Lisa toward the camp.
Thirty minutes later, the plaza was packed. A giant screen flickered to life, projected by a Den Den Mushi. Saint Saturn ascended the stage and began his speech, calmly explaining the rules of the "Hunting Game."
As his words pierced the air—revealing the truth behind the nobles' sport—the people of God Valley froze in horror. Their king, too, went pale. Panic spread. But the exits were already sealed. Marines and CP0 agents stood watch, guns drawn, expressions blank.
"Let the Hunting Game begin."
And with those words, chaos descended.
Civilians screamed. Celestial Dragons laughed. The slaughter began.
Robert sat in camp, watching it all unfold on the massive screen. Beside him, Rose and Kuma watched in horror. Lisa had already joined the hunt, leaving her twins in the care of maids.
Robert's expression was unreadable. But inside, emotion swirled—a storm of pity, sorrow, and something darker. The screen echoed with the cries of the innocent, drowned beneath noble laughter.
His eyes flicked to the scoreboard. Saint Garling Figarland and Saint Maria de Van Astrea topped the rankings, neck and neck.
Robert looked at Kuma. Then at Rose. Both were trembling.
He reached out and pulled them close. Despite being only ten years old, his height made him look sixteen. He embraced them gently, his voice soft.
"It's okay. Everything will be fine—just believe in me."
They looked up at him, eyes wet, and nodded.
No one else was in the camp, save for a few guards outside. No one saw him holding them close.
His gaze returned to the screen. He was waiting.
Fifteen minutes later, the real chaos began.
A towering figure appeared on the left-hand screen—Rocks D. Xebec. Behind him stood Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate, with Buckingham Stussy perched on his shoulder.
More followed.
Golden Lion Shiki. Captain John. Glorisa. A young Charlotte "Big Mom" Linlin. And Kaido, still in his youth, eyes blazing.
"W…What!? What's going on?" Rose gasped, clutching her chest.
"Our ticket out of here," Robert replied.
"But how?" Kuma asked.
"Just wait for the right time," Robert answered, voice like steel.
And just offshore, another ship approached.
"WAHAHAHAHAHA… Now this is what I call chaos!"
Laughed a young-looking Gol D Roger, his eyes gleaming as he stared at the fires on the island. Drawing his sword, Ace, he turned to his crew with a grin that could split mountains.
"Oi! Let's go kick some World Government ass!"
The Roger Pirates roared with laughter, rallying behind their idiotic captain.
Elsewhere—far away from the blood and fire—a young Monkey D. Garp lounged on a beach chair, flanked by beautiful women. His crew was on vacation, far removed from politics, justice, or war.
"Waaahhh… What a life," Garp muttered, hands behind his head.
Suddenly, a Marine soldier ran toward him, Den Den Mushi in hand.
"Vice-Admiral! Urgent news—Fleet Admiral on the line!"
Garp groaned, taking the receiver.
"What is it, old man? I'm on vacation."
"Rocks Pirates have attacked God Valley. The stationed Marines need backup," came Kong's voice.
Garp blinked. Then frowned.
"I ain't going there to save a bunch of lazy, corrupt nobles. Send Sengoku if it's that urgent."
But then, something changed.
"Reports say Roger's ship was sighted near God Valley."
Garp shot upright, eyes wide.
"What!? Roger's there too!?"
He ended the call, leapt to his feet, and turned to his crew.
"Oi! You lazy bastards—get up! We've got a pirate to hunt!"
