One Piece: Scourge of the Seas

Chapter 85: Chapter 85: The Time Has Come

To claim the mafia's "inheritance," countless pirates fought desperately.

The dock was littered with corpses, and even the sea around the ships was stained red with blood.

Such carnage, and in the end, it was all for nothing.

How could they accept this?

The blood-soaked pirates were nearly choking in their rage.

Who would have thought that Bege had stashed all his wealth inside his body?

And with Bege's death, the contents of his body disappeared along with his powers, leaving no trace.

This explained why there was no treasure aboard the mafia's ship.

In contrast, Maude's side had reaped a bountiful harvest.

If not for limited manpower, Sunny might have even dismantled the pearl-encrusted mirror frame from the captain's quarters.

After their plundering was complete, the two left the Abby Pirates' ship with bulging sacks, satisfied.

Before departing, Maude was careful to stash a few bundles of Beri inside his clothes and tossed the spent Dark Crow into the sea.

The blade of the Dark Crow was heavily nicked, making it practically worthless.

However, with the money they had looted, Maude could afford to replace it with a better-quality sword.

As for famed blades, those were treasures one could only stumble upon by chance. Even with money, there was no guarantee of acquiring one.

Maude recalled that Loguetown had one or two famed blades, but for now, that was out of the question.

For the time being, he planned to check out the local weapon shop or perhaps ask Tatamu for another recommendation.

When Maude and Sunny returned to the weapon shop, they immediately noticed Sol sitting behind the counter.

"Come, just put it here," Sol said with a glance at the large sacks they were carrying. He hopped out from behind the counter, smiling as he pointed to an open space nearby.

Exchanging a look, Maude and Sunny had no choice but to comply, setting the sacks down on the ground.

Sol untied one of the sacks, tipping its contents out—a heap of banknotes and coins spilled across the floor.

Having dealt with money for years, Sol only needed a quick glance to estimate the amount.

"About eight million."

After speaking, he untied the other sacks, emptying them out as well.

Besides cash, there were small gold and silver trinkets, jewelry, and some finely crafted ornaments.

Sunny couldn't resist grabbing a fistful of bills, her eyes narrowing into crescent moons with delight.

Maude picked up a gilded ornament. It felt heavy in his hand but probably wasn't worth much.

Meanwhile, Sol continued estimating the total value of their haul.

After a brief moment, he concluded it was worth around twenty million in total.

Finished with his calculations, Sol turned a kindly gaze toward Maude and Sunny, as if looking at children who had brought him gifts.

"Not bad, not bad. You two are quite thoughtful to remember your elders. Well, I'll reluctantly accept this."

"?" Sunny.

"?" Maude.

Sol smiled at them as he swiftly stripped the cash and trinkets from their hands and added them to the pile.

"Alright, it's late. You two should go rest now."

"…"

Maude and Sunny exchanged a glance.

After a long pause, Sunny finally spoke up, unwilling to give up so easily. "Sol, we never said we were giving this stuff to you."

She shot Maude a meaningful look, signaling him to back her up.

Maude, however, pretended not to notice, a slight smirk tugging at his lips.

It wasn't that he was trying to get back at Sunny for ratting him out to Sol last time, but he knew that once Sol had spoken in such terms, there was no point in arguing.

Besides, Maude had hidden a few bundles of Beri beforehand. And in Mad Hat Town, money was easy to come by, so he didn't mind Sol taking tonight's loot.

Sol, who clearly intended to keep everything, glanced at Maude before turning back to Sunny, speaking with deliberate meaning:

"Sunny, it's true you never said you'd give this to me, but I can already feel your sincerity. That's enough."

"…"

Seeing that Sol was determined to take their spoils, Sunny gave up.

Her face blank, she muttered, "Fine. I was thinking of setting aside a bit as your coffin fund, but I guess that's not happening now."

Maude couldn't help but chuckle at her remark.

Sol, unfazed, suddenly turned to Maude.

Seeing Sol's gaze, Maude quickly wiped the grin off his face.

Then, Sol extended his hand toward him, smiling. "Hand it over."

"Hand what over?"

Maude's heart sank, but his face remained blank.

"Don't play dumb. The 'coffin fund' I entrusted to your back pocket."

Maude realized he had underestimated Sol's shamelessness.

Entrusted? What kind of logic was that?

With a sigh, Maude retrieved the hidden bundles of Beri from his waistband under Sunny's incredulous gaze.

Sol snatched the money without hesitation and added it to the pile.

Sunny pointed a finger at Maude, shocked. "You hid money!"

Maude shrugged helplessly. "It was just a precaution, but I guess it didn't help."

"You should have told me!" Sunny fumed. "I trusted you!"

"Uh…"

Maude gave her a strange look.

Something didn't feel right.

Sunny suddenly produced a jar of ointment, slapped it onto the counter, and snorted. "Take care of your own wounds. I'm going to bed."

With that, she stormed off toward the hallway.

"Sunny, didn't I also entrust a 'coffin fund' to you?" Sol called out with a smile.

Sunny froze mid-step, then slowly turned around, making one last attempt to resist. "I don't remember anything like that."

Sol sighed. "That's why I'm reminding you."

"…"

After a long silence, Sunny reluctantly retrieved a hidden bundle of Beri from her clothes.

This time, it was Maude's turn to stare at her in shock.

His expression seemed to say, You hid money too?!

Sunny glared at him before tossing the bundle onto the pile.

Sol nodded in satisfaction.

Meanwhile, a fat weasel hiding in the shadows of the hallway sighed and retreated, longing for the freedom of the forest it once knew.

In the shop, Sol sat atop the pile of money and waved at Maude and Sunny.

"Alright, you two should go rest now."

As Maude and Sunny turned to leave, Sol called out again.

"Wait a moment."

They stopped and looked back at him.

"Starting tomorrow, the shop will be temporarily closed," Sol said casually.

"Why?" Sunny asked, puzzled.

"It's time to teach you Haki," Sol replied.

"Really?" Sunny's face lit up.

Maude's eyes also sparkled with anticipation.

"When have I ever lied?" Sol said, glaring at them.

Maude and Sunny exchanged knowing glances but said nothing further.
