One Piece : Safety second

Chapter 36: This time, it's serious (2)

Hansen glared at Tom and saw that the latter was doing nothing other than looking at him. After a moment, Tom started wagging his finger and said,

"Try everything you can."

Hansen scoffed at Tom before taking out two dials and attaching them to his forearms. Taking out two more and holding them in his hands, Hansen said,

"You're going to regret this."

"We'll see about that."

Kicking off the ground, Tom rushed at Hansen. As Tom got closer, Hansen pointed the dial in his left hand at him and let out a chilly cloud.

[Hail burst]

Tom tilted his head to the side as a hailstone whizzed past him. Looking behind him, Tom saw that the hailstone had made a dent in the tree.

Clicking his tongue, Tom got on all fours and leaped to a tree near him. Using it as a foothold, Tom started jumping around trees to use them as cover.

"Damn monkey."

Cursing under his breath, Hansen turned the dial in his left hand and continued letting out the icy cloud all around him. When the dial finally ran out, Hansen threw it away and walked over to his subordiantes before kicking them awake.

"Get up and get lost quickly."

He did not need to say more as they all saw the hailstones whizzing around. Hansen let out a sigh as he watched them run away while trying to not get hit by the hail.

'Well, it'll stop soon anyway.'

Putting them to the back of his mind, Hansen looked around for Tom while thinking that the environment was really unsuitable for his Milky Dials.

The trees acted as great cover against the hailstones. With the lightning clouds neutralized, Hansen had only one more type of Milky Dial. But Hansen was pretty reluctant to use it.

Just as the ice cloud that he released all around stopped peppering hail, Hansen looked up and saw Tom dropping down from a tree.

Watching Tom turn around mid-air to deliver a downward kick, Hansen lifted his right arm and blocked it. As soon as he blocked the kick, Hansen pushed Tom away and took out the dial from his right forearm and pointed it at Tom.

Hansen let out a grin when he saw that Tom was blocking instead of trying to dodge and used the dial he just took off his right forearm.

[Impact]

The force released from the dial was strong enough that it sent Tom crashing into a tree.

Hansen let out a grunt as he reattached the impact dial on his right forearm and started using the Milky Dial in his right hand, giving no time for Tom to rest as he unleashed another burst of hailstones.

Tom rolled away to avoid them and hid behind a tree before looking at his shaking arms.

'Those things can be used for something other than letting out clouds?'

Noting to himself to be wary, Tom shook his arms before climbing a tree and leaping around. Hansen still seemed oblivious to where Tom was as he was wildly using up the Milky Dial in his hand.

Tom watched till the dial ran out, and Hansen threw it away. Picking up something that looked like a coconut from the tree he was crouching on, Tom threw it at Hansen and watched the latter block it with his right arm.

Or more precisely, the dial on his right forearm. Narrowing his eyes, Tom dropped down from the tree, making sure that Hansen could see him.

As he just stood around after dropping down, Hansen kicked off the ground and took off the dial on his right arm, pointing it at Tom when he got close enough.

[Impact]

But this time, Tom had mostly figured out how the dial worked and ducked, dodging the attack.

As Hansen lamented his own hastiness, Tom slapped Hansen's hand with his tail, causing the latter to drop the dial. Before Hansen could try to retrieve it, Tom swept it away with his tail and jumped back.

Tom looked at the dial in his hand and tilted his head before putting it away.

'Let's look at it later.'

After putting away the dial, Tom looked in front of him and saw Hansen glaring at him. Ignoring it, Tom just ran up a tree and started jumping around.

"Damn it! Face me head-on, you coward!"

As if to answer Hansen's scream, Tom dropped down at him while brandishing his claws.

Hansen immediately raised his left arm and blocked the attack. Tilting his body to the side, Hansen took off the dial on his left arm and aimed it at Tom.

"Die, pirate!"

Tom thought that Hansen was using a similar dial and decided to just block it, as he could not dodge because he was mid-air. But unfortunately for him, Hansen was using a dial that was far more powerful than the Impact Dial.

*BOOM*

The dial let out such force that Tom flew away, smashing through a lot of trees before coming to a stop. Hansen wasn't in great shape either, as the Reject dial had backlash when one used it.

With blood streaming down the sides of his mouth, Hansen dragged his body to where Tom might have fallen while following the trail of broken trees.

But when Hansen reached far enough where there were no broken trees anymore, he did not find Tom anywhere.

As Hansen looked wide-eyed in shock, he felt his left arm grabbed and the dial ripped away. Before he could turn around, he got kicked in the back and smashed into a tree in front of him.

Tom, with battered and bruised arms, looked at the dial in his hand with an angry look before putting it away. Walking over to Hansen, Tom asked,

"Are you done now?"

Getting no reply, Tom thought that Hansen had fainted, as the latter hadn't moved since falling over. After getting close to Hansen, Tom nudged him with his foot.

As Hansen still gave no response, Tom finally relaxed and took a deep breath before letting out a triumphant smile and spreading his arms, trying to show off. But then, he realized that there wasn't anyone around and clicked his tongue.

Just as Tom started thinking of what to do with Hansen, he heard the latter talk.

"Next time, check properly."

When Tom heard that, he turned Hansen around and saw the latter holding a different kind of dial. This one, bellowing with a storm. Before Tom could make a dash for it, the storm erupted from the dial.

Strong winds lifted them off the ground first as they were surrounded by lightning and hail. Hansen's last thought as he saw Tom curse at him was,

'Hopefully those idiots are far away.'

**********

After an unknown amount of time had passed, Hansen was roused from his unconscious state by a deeply aromatic smell.

Hansen felt that he was bound by something as he woke up. Frowned for a moment, Hansen slowly opened his eyes, The first scene he saw when he opened his eyes was Tom holding a plate of food and a small fan which blew the smell of food toward him.

When Tom noticed Hansen looking at him, he let out an evil grin. Hansen, on the other hand, saw that grin and thought,

'Please, someone knock me out again.'
