Chapter 112: OPRS: Chapter 112
This was Alistair's flagship, specifically designed for Ace.
Two pipes connected directly to the helm. Iron plates were embedded in the helm's floor to prevent Ace's flames from burning the deck. The flames traveled through the pipes to the stern; two gear-like mechanisms were integrated into the pipes. The flames rotated these gears, which were connected to the stern propeller. This allowed for secondary use of Ace's flame energy.
This was Alistair's design; the ship's speed would depend on Ace's power and the sea trial. Alistair had considered a flying ship or a high-speed hydrofoil, but those were for coastal use and lacked deep-sea capabilities; he opted for a more practical warship modification.
"Launch it," Alistair ordered the merchants.
Although the shipyard was his, the merchants had built it; the workers answered to the merchants. The merchants nodded to the dockworkers, and several strong men used logs to guide the ship down the ramp.
This shipyard differed from Water 7's—it was entirely wooden; the merchants' biggest challenge was gathering shipwrights. They succeeded, aided by the Mink Tribe; Mock Town was still developing; Alistair still sought the Revolutionary Army's help due to the One Piece world's inherent limitations.
With Dragon, the Revolutionary Army, two Shichibukai, and three Logia users, Alistair could engage in guerrilla warfare against the Navy; he could attack or retreat freely. This was his priority. Recruiting was second.
This was a revolution, not a picnic; he couldn't leave promising individuals like Zoro, Sanji, and Nami for Luffy; it was a waste of time and talent. Alistair needed to gather all usable forces to prevent the Navy's counterattack. Therefore, he couldn't show mercy to Sabo.
Without champagne or ceremony, the ship was launched; it seemed inauspicious, but no one cared. Enel and Ace immediately turned elemental and boarded.
They could easily board; Alistair and the others used ropes. Hancock and others protected Alistair, boarding after him. Enel and Ace had already explored the ship. Their elemental forms allowed easy navigation, preventing collisions. They'd inspected the ship and understood Alistair's modifications.
Enel sat on the mast, losing interest once he realized it was for Ace. Ace, however, was excited. Once everyone was aboard, Ace stood at the helm, ready to set sail.
"You're eager; let's go," Alistair smiled.
"Setting sail, Captain!" Ace grinned, his feet turning into flames, propelling them towards the pipes. Two thick pipes led to the stern.
This tested Ace's control; excessive heat would melt the steel; insufficient heat wouldn't propel the ship or the propellers. This was a challenge, but Ace liked challenges.
The flames intensified, heating the steel plates red-hot; the flames were directed into the pipes. The gears and propellers weren't thin sheets but thick metal, tightly filling the pipes; due to metallurgical limitations, they couldn't achieve perfectly sealed pipes and interlocking gears, but this was the best they could do.
The ship left the shipyard, accelerating under Ace's power; everyone on the deck was buffeted by the wind. The highest point was the stern, where the captain gave orders; the second-highest point was the helm, offering a good view.
Galleons had a speed of 5-7 knots; smaller ones could reach 8-11 knots; modern warships started at 25 knots; anything below 20 was embarrassing. With the propellers, Ace easily pushed the galleon to 30 knots. While a knot is 1.825 km/h, 30 knots is 55 km/h; on the sea, this was terrifying.
A single thought echoed in everyone's minds—the world is changing!
