One Piece : Pirate King Sage

Chapter 3: Two hundred thousand berry bounty

It was another bright morning. Three days had passed since Kado decided to leave. During these three days, he had been busy hunting along the coast and in the jungle, bringing back a substantial amount of game to improve the living conditions for Nami and her family.

In these three days, Kado also informed Bellemere and the villagers about his plans to leave. Bellemere supported Kado's decision, saying, "A real man should venture into the world, fight against evil, and eliminate brutal pirates. If I weren't a woman with two children to care for, I would have become an excellent Navy soldier myself."

The villagers, along with Nami and Nojiko, were reluctant to see Kado go. After all, he was only twelve and still growing; it seemed too risky for him to venture out alone. However, their well-meaning concerns did not sway Kado. He knew that the sooner he started his adventures, the stronger he would become to protect his family. After all, Luffy had begun training at six and was already fighting fierce beasts.

After breakfast and packing his belongings, Kado, accompanied by Bellemere's family, made his way to the dock.

The dock was already crowded with villagers there to see him off. They had come to regard Kado as a young man of their village, and naturally, they wanted to bid him farewell as he set off on his adventure.

After hugging several villagers, Kado reached Nojiko and playfully patted her head, saying, "Nojiko, after I leave, you need to listen to Mom and take good care of Nami. Don't steal food from her!"

"Okay, big brother! Don't worry, I'll take care of Mom and Nami!"

Seeing Nojiko's innocent face made Kado feel a pang of sadness. He took a deep breath, mustered his courage, and hugged the five-year-old Nami, planting a big kiss on her cheek.

After saying his goodbyes, Kado jumped onto a small rowboat at the dock, swinging his dagger to cut the mooring rope, and with the morning breeze at his back, he set off into the distance.

"Everyone, take care! Be sure to cherish your lives. If you run into any problems you can't solve, wait for me to come back—don't take unnecessary risks!"

Kado stood at the bow of the boat, waving his arms vigorously, once again reminding the villagers not to act impulsively and to avoid unnecessary casualties when Arlong arrived.

"You brat! If we can't solve it, you definitely can't either! Stop talking big. Just be careful out there, and if you need help in the future, definitely come back. This is your home!"

An uncle with a windmill hat waved his hand while scolding Kado with concern.

"Ha ha, thank you, everyone from Cocoyashi Village, for your adventurous sponsorship! I will repay you in the future!"

Kado stood at the front of the boat, pulling out wallets from beneath his clothes and shouting at the crowd.

"What's that kid holding?"

"Ah! My wallet is gone! That brat stole it!"

"Hey, you little thief! How dare you steal my wallet? When you come back, I'm definitely going to beat you up!"

As Kado's small boat drifted farther away, the villagers of Coco Yashi gradually became indistinguishable. Taking a deep breath to calm his emotions, Kado lay back on the boat, contemplating his future.

Being out at sea without money was not an option. The money he took from the villagers was only a few hundred thousand berry, after all; the villagers were not wealthy.

To make money, he could either become a pirate, plundering and pillaging, or he could be a bounty hunter to earn bounties, or perhaps join the Navy to train himself.

Becoming a pirate was definitely out of the question. Although this world had no laws, Kado did not intend to go on a killing spree; the people in this world were still human, and everyone had the right to survive.

Being a bounty hunter was a decent option. Starting with lower-bounty pirates would not only hone his combat skills but also allow him to earn some money.

Joining the Navy was also a consideration, but the Navy had to follow orders from superiors, which wouldn't help him gather special energy. He would have to pass on that idea.

Drifting at sea was indeed a bit boring. Without the video games, novels, or smartphones of his previous life, Kado could only stand on the boat, squatting to train his lower body. Balancing while squatting on the swaying boat was quite challenging and definitely more effective than on land.

An albatross flew overhead, and Kado waved his hand. The albatross swooped down, allowing him to buy a newspaper and several bounty posters with a hundred berry.

Flipping through the bounty posters, the first one was for the East Blue's tyrant, the "Wolf," with a bounty of 46 million berry, which caught Kado's interest. However, he knew he was no match for the Wolf at the moment.

As he flipped further, the bounties gradually decreased, ending with several posters offering a bounty of 100,000 berry.

A 100,000 berry bounty for a small fry made Kado smile; they would make good practice opponents.

After reviewing the bounty posters, Kado began looking through the newspaper, which detailed significant events happening recently in East Blue, including pirate attacks and local festivities.

Suddenly, one headline in the corner caught his eye: a pirate named Uta with a bounty of 200,000 berry had attacked Fireworks Town, and the Navy was mobilizing to rescue the residents of Fireworks Town.

"Fireworks Town!"

Kado jolted, realizing that Fireworks Town was precisely the direction he was heading. In just half a day's time, he would be able to dock at the port of Fireworks Town.

"the heavens helping me too!"

Kado couldn't help but feel excited; he didn't expect his first business deal to come so quickly.

Half a day later, at the dock of Firework Town, Kado tied up his small boat and strode toward the town center.

The streets of Firework Town were eerily empty, and this unusual atmosphere told Kado that the pirates hadn't left yet; they were probably busy sorting through the goods they had stolen.

In the town square of Firework Town, the pirate Uta lounged in a large chair, leisurely watching the dozens of villagers before him.

He was waiting for the families of these villagers to gather enough ransom—500,000 berries each—so they could leave.

Uta didn't engage in unnecessary killings; most pirates were like this. To them, villagers were like livestock they kept. When they had no money, they would come to extort some; if they killed everyone, who would they extort from?

Behind Uta stood four or five henchmen, all his subordinates, while a few others were driving residents from their homes to the square.

As time passed, the pirates grew increasingly impatient. At Uta's signal, they began to beat some villagers. Some villagers, unable to endure the pain, had no choice but to pay the ransom, while others, unwilling to part with their hard-earned money, could only suffer in silence, waiting for the navy to rescue them.

The crowd gradually thinned out. Those who had lost hope in rescue from the navy could only helplessly hand over their hard-earned money to these brutes.

Until only an old man and a child were left in the crowd.

Somewhat impatient, Uta walked over to the old man and yanked the child out of the old man's arms and threw it to the side.

"Don't hurt my grandson, don't hurt him, hit me if you want, we really don't have any money."

The old man stumbled and pounced on his grandson, shielding him with his body and begging bitterly to Uta.

"Huh, no money, what use are you without money? If you don't even have money, you might as well just die. Today, I'm going to take action on you two. Let these guys see that I, Uncle Uta, am not someone to be trifled with. "

"They really don't have any money left. That child's parents were killed by pirates long ago, and they've had no source of income since. Please let them go!"

A middle-aged villager also pleaded for the old man and the child, unable to bear the sight of them being harmed, since they were from the same village.

"Oh, you feel sorry for them?" Uta looked at the middle-aged man and said, "So you're willing to pay their ransom."

"No, no, that's not what I meant!" The middle-aged man waved his hands in panic; after all, one million beri was no small amount.

"Get lost! No money, no heart! You don't want to lose your life, do you?" Uta kicked the man to the ground and turned back toward the old man and the child.

The four- or five-year-old child in the old man's arms saw the fierce pirate approaching and finally couldn't hold back, bursting into tears.

The surrounding villagers were filled with righteous indignation, but when they saw the dozen or so pirates armed with large knives around Uta, they dared not show any dissatisfaction.

"Stop!"

A childish shout rang out, causing Uta to pause and look toward the boy standing at the edge of the square.

It was Kado, who had just arrived. Though Kado already had over a hundred points of strength, he had no real combat experience; the most he had done was fight with local thugs in his previous life. Now, looking at the dozen men around him who were taller, stronger, and more menacing, all wielding swords almost as tall as he was, he couldn't help but tremble.
