One Piece: Mountain of Steel

Chapter 3: Marines

As I set sail on my shaky little boat, I didn't think the voyage would be this long.

Like, how big could the ocean possibly be? Right?

It's really big. I would even go to say that it's massive.

And to cross such an ocean, I had to work.

Unbuckling my weapons from my back yet again, I inhale deeply. A small vortex forms.

"Stone Breathing, Esoteric Art,"

Grabbing the chain, I begin to spin the two-ton flail furiously behind me, causing it to go so fast it couldn't be seen.

"Rising Updraft!"

The implausible speed of the flail propels me forward at a speed that other motors could only dream about.

Racing off towards the horizon, I sighed deeply.

"It's been four weeks since I got water..."

-------------------------------------------------------------

Another five hours had passed. As I sat in a meditative pose, the chains resting on my back clinked rhythmically to the beat of the waves.

These chains were the key to my entire fighting style. They were my life, my blood, my soul. Without them, I could only rely on feeling vibrations from my feet, which took far too long to come back to me.

Their clinking sound, made specifically to be extra loud, would attract enemies' attention. Not only that, but it would give me a constant and frequent echolocation so I could sense their locations.

It was my literal lifeline for battle. But now, I used it to detect islands nearby.

"Namu Amida Butsu... Namu Amida Butsu... Namu Amida Butsu Hmm?" My praying is interrupted as clinking vibrations return to me with information, information about something new.

A ship visualized itself in my mind. Strong, sturdy, wooden planks and dozens of hardened men onboard.

This is my chance.

Inhaling a deep breath, I begin to stand up. My bones creak slightly from disuse, but with a little flex of my muscles, I launch myself onto the ship.

"AHHHH!" A young maiden, who had been gazing out from the helm, startled and fell on the ground as I slammed into the floorboards.

"Apologies, miss. I was wondering if a weary traveler could perhaps seek refuge on your ship?" I ask politely.

A crewmate, worried by the scream, rushed out of the cabin behind me.

"Hey! Who are you?"

Seeing the woman on the ground behind me, I knew exactly what he was thinking.

"Wait, wait, wait! It's okay, I'm not going to hurt her. Calm down. I simply want to stay on the ship!" As I finish speaking, the rest of the crew dash out of the door. The first crewmate points at me and yells:

"He's trying to kidnap Rocha-san! Kill him!!!" Hearing those words, fifty-four people charged at me, brandishing gleaming swords and guns.

-------------------------------------------------------

"Hahaha! So it was just a misunderstanding!" The captain of the ship, a rugged man decorated with scars and injuries, heartily slapped me on the back.

"I am glad we realized that before any injuries happened," I reply with a gracious smile on my face.

Flashback

Even as I stood still and explained the situation, the brave men seemed to have been taken over by an obsession. Blades and bullets of all kinds shot towards me, aiming to penetrate my rough skin

All of them shattered into pieces onto my 10-foot-tall frame.

Flashback End

After that fiasco had happened, their captain had groveled in front of me and begged me to spare his crew. I tried explaining the situation yet again, and once they had heard, voices of apology filled the air.

They had even set a dining table and food up outside due to my inability to enter the cabin!

Tears start flowing uncontrollably from my eyes. The captain panicked.

"Sir, are you okay? Is there anything I did wrong? I'm sorry!" Throwing himself out of the chair, he groveled relentlessly.

"No, no, please get up. I'm just so touched by how much you've done for me!" I immediately stood and helped the captain up quickly.

"Sir, by any chance...are you a member of the Marines?" A crewmate asks while looking at my cloak.

"Hmm? What are the Marines?"

"You don't know about the Marines? Have you been living under a rock?" His voice takes on a slight reverence as he begins to explain.

"They are pillars of Justice, dedicating their lives to destroying pirates. They are the strongest force on this sea!"

"My grandpa, a Marine Commodore, told me about how powerful the top brass are. He said that the Admirals are strong enough to destroy mountains with a punch!"

"Admiral Akainu, Admiral Kizaru, and Admiral Kuzan, they all have taken down more than twenty thousand pirates each!"

I suck in a breath in surprise. Twenty thousand is no small number. I don't even think I met that many people in my last life.

"Hmm, does this mean I should join the Marines?" I mused under my breath.

All things considered, it would be a good idea to join an organisation. Just like in my previous life, an organisation could find evil more easily, allowing me to spread peace more efficiently. Also, I wouldn't have to locate villains, evacuate citizens, or pay for repairs.

A shudder runs through my body at the thought of paying for repairs. Due to my rather destructive fighting style, I was always the one making Kagaya-sama pay the most.

Joining the Marines would give me an easy way to take on evil and protect Justice with no extra headaches. All I would have to do is use my overwhelming strength!

Smiling, I ask the captain:

"Can you take me to the nearest island where I can sign up for the Marines?"
