Chapter 34: 《One Piece: Magma of Absolute》Chapter 34: The Empress of Amazon Lily
The Kuja Pirates.
On the deck of the Kuja pirate ship, Irenesena—Empress of Amazon Lily and captain of the Kuja Pirates—lowered her longbow. Beside her, a guard set down her spyglass and spoke up:
"Your Majesty, the Marines intercepted our attack."
"Should we continue?"
Irenesena's brow creased ever so slightly as she gazed toward the distant warship, her voice icy and resolute:
"Continue."
"Move in closer. Blanket them with covering fire."
"Yes, ma'am!"
At her command, the guard barked orders, and the crew sprang into action. The Kuja ship—pulled by three massive serpents—surged forward, cutting through the waves straight toward the Marine vessel.
Meanwhile, on the warship—
The adjutant lowered his own spyglass, pulled out a well-worn notebook, flipped to a marked page, and reported to Sakazuki:
"Vice Admiral Sakazuki, the enemy flag belongs to the Kuja Pirates."
Sakazuki's reply was cool and measured:
"The Kuja—warriors of legend, huh."
The adjutant nodded and continued, eyes scanning his notes:
"Yes, sir. According to the records, the Kuja Pirates hail from Amazon Lily in the Calm Belt."
"Amazon Lily is built upon Amazon Lily Island. It's a pirate nation—much like the Land of Flowers."
"The Kuja Pirates are the official force of Amazon Lily. They usually roam between the Calm Belt and the Grand Line."
"They raid merchant ships, pirate vessels, Marine warships, and any ship unlucky enough to drift into the Calm Belt."
"Their ship, drawn by three giant snakes, can move freely through the Calm Belt at incredible speed."
"Given the current state of our engines—and with so many massive Sea Kings lurking here—Headquarters has attempted to pursue them multiple times. Every attempt has ended in failure."
Sakazuki nodded in silent agreement. Back then, Vegapunk hadn't yet made his mark, and seastone-plated warships wouldn't be invented until years later.
The Calm Belt was crawling with monstrous Sea Kings—some as big as islands. If one attacked, officers might survive, but the regular crew wouldn't stand a chance.
Without seastone hulls, any Marine ship was fair game for the Sea Kings. And the Kuja, masters of these waters, were nearly impossible to catch.
The adjutant went on:
"Records show the Kuja Pirates always begin their raids with a sneak attack—a probing strike."
"If it hits, they'll unleash a barrage of rapid attacks within minutes, testing their target's strength."
"If they have the upper hand, they'll close in and board directly for the kill."
"If the first probing attack is blocked, they'll switch to long-range Haki-infused arrows and cannon fire, bombarding the ship from afar."
"If that doesn't work, they withdraw."
"It's one of the reasons the Kuja Pirates are so notoriously troublesome."
He closed his notebook and looked to Sakazuki for orders.
"Long-range attacks, huh..."
Sakazuki mused for a moment, then issued his commands:
"Keep the Kuja Pirates at bay with our cannons. Don't let their artillery get close enough to be effective."
"As for their arrows—tell the recruits to coat themselves in Haki and block them."
"Understood!"
The adjutant hurried off to alert the gunners and the exhausted young Marines.
Sakazuki ascended to the highest deck of the warship.
He watched as the ancient, serpent-drawn Kuja ship loomed ever larger on the horizon. With a surge of Observation Haki, he swept the enemy vessel—dozens of figures and their positions flashed through his mind.
"Hmph!"
Suddenly, a cold snort echoed from the Kuja ship.
Irenesena's expression darkened. With a flicker of will, she unleashed a wave of Conqueror's Haki that swept across her entire crew, disrupting Sakazuki's Observation Haki and scrambling his perception.
The Kuja crew exchanged uneasy glances, unsure why their Empress had suddenly released her Conqueror's Haki.
At that moment, a guard stepped forward:
"Your Majesty, we're about to enter attack range."
Irenesena nodded slightly, her voice as cold as ever:
"Test them with a probing volley. There's a high-level fighter on the other side."
"If it doesn't work, then..."
