One Piece: Lord of Calamity

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Logia - Mercury Fruit!

Roa examined the boy in front of him.

His first impression was, why is he so tall?

They were supposedly the same age, yet he was almost one and a half times Roa's height.

He wore tattered, ill-fitting military clothes, and his golden hair, unwashed for a long time, had become matted with dried blood.

He stood ramrod straight, like a javelin. Though he bore many injuries, his spirit was full of vigor.

At the same moment, Bullet was also looking at Roa.

He had seen many children in the army, but never one like this.

Clean-faced, adorable, exquisitely dressed, with an innocent smile.

"Commander?"

Bullet looked at his commander, Douglas Grey, in confusion, not understanding what this child's words meant.

What did he mean, "you'll be with me from now on"?

"Ahem."

The commander of the boy soldier unit, Douglas Grey, wiped the sweat from his forehead, coughed, and carefully glanced at Roa. Then, in front of Bullet, he straightened his chest again. "Bullet, I've seen all your performances! Excellent! So I've decided to award you this year's medal!"

"Really?"

Young Bullet's eyes instantly lit up. His gaunt face was now completely covered in surprise, and his voice stammered. "Commander, I... can I really?"

"Of course! Bullet! Stand tall! You are my proudest soldier!"

Bullet instinctively puffed out his chest and raised his head. Grey stepped forward and pinned a medal to Bullet's chest.

The craftsmanship of this medal was really not refined; it was at the level of a child's toy.

But Bullet was so excited that tears welled up in his eyes.

The young fierce general, who had been unparalleled and rarely obstructed on the battlefield, now showed his childlike side. He wanted to reach out and touch it but was afraid his dirty hands would soil the medal. He just sniffled, looking down intently.

Perfect timing.

Roa looked at the boy's incredibly moved expression, his smile widening.

Bullet only became insane after experiencing three great setbacks.

The first was when he was eight years old, just about to receive the medal he yearned for, when his comrades betrayed him, not only taking the medal but also trying to kill him.

The second was when he was fourteen. Grey promised him freedom if he destroyed the enemy nation, but after Bullet crushed the enemy, Grey betrayed him.

The third was on Roger's ship. He was finally somewhat reformed by the Pirate Succubus, gradually adapting to life with comrades, but then Roger fell terminally ill, making it impossible for Bullet to ever defeat him.

And after Roger's death, Bullet finally spiraled into complete madness.

Sigh, Roger, you bastard! A beautiful woman brings trouble! You should repent!

However, before experiencing these setbacks, Bullet was indeed a model soldier.

"Bullet!"

Grey suddenly barked.

"Yes, Commander!"

Bullet instinctively stood at attention.

"Since you've received the medal, I'm assigning you a mission that only you can execute!"

Grey's voice was stern.

But in his heart, he couldn't stop sighing.

He knew better than anyone that his boy soldier unit had risen to fame entirely thanks to Bullet, this natural monster.

"Yes!"

Bullet didn't hesitate, a proud look on his face.

"Listen closely, Bullet,"

Grey pointed at Roa. "From today onward, you are this Lord Roa's guard! You must absolutely obey his commands! You are to disregard all other commands except his! Including mine! You are to defend his safety with your life!"

Bullet's eyes held confusion, but he had been educated from a young age to obey orders, so.

"Yes!"

The boy's voice was clear and resonant, without any hesitation.

"Very good."

Grey feigned a satisfied nod. Only then did he cautiously look at Roa. "Lord Roa, what do you think...?"

Ultimately, why would the remnants of the Rocks Pirates visit this godforsaken country?

When this boy was brought here by his superior, Grey almost died of fright.

Though just a child, he was still an executive of the Rocks Pirates. How could he provoke him?

He could only obediently hand Bullet over to him.

"Bullet."

Roa smiled and raised his hand, pointing at Grey. "Punch him with all your might."

Bullet hesitated, instinctively looking at Grey.

Although he obeys orders, such an order...

Grey instantly broke out in a cold sweat under his gaze. "Bullet! Have you forgotten my teachings? Obey orders!"

Bullet nodded heavily, then stepped forward, swung his right fist back, twisted his waist, and suddenly threw the punch.

A seven-year-old boy's punch landed heavily on Grey's stomach.

Grey was immediately doubled over like a shrimp, his eyes bulging, blood spraying from his mouth, and he flew away like a cannonball.

That little brat!

Should've held back a little!

"Very good, full of spirit!"

Only then was Roa satisfied.

Now that's a good kid.

Dylan, who had been quietly following behind Roa, also looked at Bullet with some surprise.

Such strength, not that of an ordinary child.

Like Lord Roa, he was a naturally gifted existence!

As expected of Lord Roa, to know that such unpolished jade existed in such a remote place.

"From now on, just like before, you only need to obey my commands."

Roa jumped up and patted Bullet's shoulder.

There are simply too many tall people in this world!

"Yes, Lord Roa!"

Bullet no longer hesitated.

Just like in the past, he didn't need to think too much; he just needed to obey orders!

Only now, he would obey Lord Roa's commands!

"Good boy. As a reward,"

Roa reached into his pocket, pulled out the Devil Fruit he had snatched from God Valley, and handed it to Bullet. "Eat it."

Although he didn't know the specific ability of this fruit, it was certainly much stronger than the Clank-Clank Fruit.

The awakened Clank-Clank Fruit did look intimidating, but on closer inspection, it had too many limitations.

Firstly, it was too reliant on external objects. In the original story, Bullet only reached his "large Bullet" scale after absorbing the fleet from a Buster Call and a city on an island. This was impossible under normal circumstances.

Secondly, if the combined material was damaged, the ability user himself would be harmed, which was ridiculous, not even as good as Pica's Stone-Stone Fruit.

Lastly, if not for Bullet's Haki, the monsters created by the combination were quite fragile; Usopp's plants could destroy them.

Ultimately, it was Bullet who was strong, with a rating of 13.0, while the Clank-Clank Fruit was just along for the ride.

So, let's give him a different fruit.

"Yes!"

Bullet didn't hesitate, opening his mouth and swallowing the fruit, which was slightly larger than his fist, in one gulp.

Devil Fruits were, of course, terrible, but the boy soldier showed no unusual expression. He had eaten far more unappetizing things than this.

"Do you feel anything?"

Roa asked curiously.

He couldn't help but be curious. What kind of ability did a fruit placed alongside the Azure Dragon Fruit and the Paw-Paw Fruit possess?

"Report! Nothing—"

Bullet, in the midst of reporting, suddenly focused his gaze. "I feel something!"

Almost instinctively, the ability hidden within his body was triggered.

Roa watched as Bullet's body lost its color, instantly transforming into a silvery humanoid form.

His body was composed of a shimmering silver liquid, which dripped in large puddles onto the ground, forming silver beads.

"Careful! Lord Roa!"

Dylan instantly blocked Roa, shielding him with his body. "This appearance... it should be mercury!"

"Huh? Mercury? A Logia type?"

Roa sighed with considerable disappointment.

Before the Haki version, Logia types were naturally invincible.

But after the version update, Mythical Zoan types became the dominant class.

And this mercury stuff was completely incomparable to the top-tier Logia types.

"It seems... it can change again."

Bullet said.

His silver body changed again, the liquid evaporating, turning into an ethereal gas.

"So hot!"

Roa felt a wave of heat wash over him. He was quite surprised. "There's a second elemental form? Has it turned into mercury vapor?"

Mercury vapor's temperature is astonishingly high.

And this stuff is highly poisonous!

This was interesting.

Liquid mercury's density was 1.7 times that of iron. Just this alone could be combined with Rokushiki. He could completely aim to be like Katakuri, with tens of meters tall, hundred-thousand-ton mercury giant fists. Combined with Bullet's strength and Haki, wouldn't that make people afraid?

And gaseous mercury was even more interesting. Its high temperature, comparable to the Flare-Flare Fruit, and its highly toxic properties, were also incredibly powerful, making it a superior version of the Plume-Plume Fruit.

Smoker, hey, maybe you shouldn't eat the Plume-Plume Fruit. It's nothing but side effects.

Wait, highly poisonous?

"Bullet, change back quickly."

Roa hastily said.

He himself was fine; a little black mist and he'd recover.

But Dylan was an ordinary person.

"Yes!"

Bullet immediately reverted to his original form.

Roa admired this kid even more.

Monkey D. Luffy had trouble controlling his abilities when he first became a rubber man.

"Do you like it?"

Roa asked with a smile.

"Reporting, Lord Roa! I love it!"

Bullet genuinely beamed.

He didn't know what a Devil Fruit was, but he knew he had gained an incredible ability!

"Then, do you want to try out your ability?"
