Chapter 8: If the Head Doesn’t Work, the Eyes Fail Too
Chapter 8: If the Head Doesn't Work, the Eyes Fail Too
The same three boats, the same people, accompanied again by the kind Lina, and, of course, the always noisy Beta, who was now on deck looking around excitedly. Charlotte, in the captain's cabin, was quite annoyed. He had to lead everything, which meant he couldn't escape his fate as a worker.
Why build a port? Why worry about so many things? It was causing him a lot of exhaustion. Maybe it would be better to find a deserted island and live as a hermit. Although that kind of life would probably lose its charm after two months.
To relax, you also need a good quality of life. Plus, he had always been cautious, making sure everything was safe and without major problems.
Splash!
The boat shook and the speed slowed down. Beta came in excitedly. "Report, boss Charlotte, we've arrived!"
Arrived?
Charlotte stood up and went to the deck. Around him were ancient mountains and forests, with occasional flocks of birds soaring, giving a primitive air. This island was several times larger than Ratti Island, truly enormous.
"Find a suitable place to dock."
Soon, a natural port appeared on the island, and the boat approached slowly until it stopped. Charlotte, along with his group, disembarked and paused.
"Charlotte, what's wrong?" Lina asked, seeing Charlotte's serious expression.
"Everyone, stay alert!" Something was wrong. Too quiet! In the distance, flocks of birds could be seen, but here, not even the sound of a bird. Always being cautious in new environments, Charlotte realized that with so much vegetation, their arrival should have scared some animals, especially birds. However, there was no sign of any animals around.
Although the weather in the New World is extremely variable, there are many wild beasts living here, so it's unlikely there are no other animals.
So something was wrong.
Leaving more than a dozen people in charge of the boat, including Lina, the rest followed Charlotte into the island.
After walking more than a hundred meters, they still didn't find any living beings. Even Beta, usually carefree, noticed something was off.
"Boss, this is eerily quiet!"
Charlotte looked at Beta in surprise. It wasn't easy, this hard head finally noticed something! Although he noticed it late, if they had been attacked, he would already be dead.
Caution first, safety above all!
That's why, the whole way, Charlotte kept his Observation Haki active, although he didn't detect anything unusual. The island was too large and his current power couldn't cover it completely. He could only advance and feel at the same time.
Charlotte jumped, his eyes narrowed as he glimpsed something. The moment he landed, he leapt forward, disappearing from sight in the blink of an eye.
"Boss Charlotte, wait for me!" Beta shouted and ran after him, quickly followed by the others.
Moments later, Charlotte appeared in a large clearing next to a huge lake.
Wow!
There stood a gigantic wooden cabin, at least twenty meters high. "My God, this is enormous!" Charlotte couldn't help but exclaim, impressed. Even with his nearly two-meter height, he felt insignificant. Beta, who arrived later, gaped and then shouted excitedly, "Wow, there's a castle here!"
Charlotte glanced at Beta. No hope for his intelligence. Seeing such a big cabin and calling it a castle... his eyes didn't work either. If the head doesn't work, the eyes fail too.
Charlotte decided to ignore Beta; stupidity spreads easily. A few moments later, the others arrived panting, their eyes wide open. Charlotte was disgusted. This group lacked experience and their endurance was pathetic. They'd have to train hard when they returned. What a shame!
Observing the huge wooden cabin, Charlotte began to speculate that only a race of giants could live in such a house. He didn't expect to find giants here. The world is truly dangerous! Caution is key! Especially considering the remains of large beasts around, which made the place seem even more sinister. Perhaps they had devoured all the beasts on the island, Charlotte thought to himself. But he didn't detect the presence of giants with his Observation Haki. Giants are powerful; even in the New World, they are a formidable force. Although they can't compare to the most powerful of the sea, they are an essential part of any elite group.
Rumble...
The rumbling sound of the forest caught Charlotte's attention. Soon, a twelve-meter tall giant, dressed in animal skins, with a horned helmet and wielding a huge club, appeared before them, looking down at them.
"A... a monster!" The inexperienced companions screamed in terror.
"Silence, it's a giant!" Charlotte shouted, calming the terrified. Beta, excited, jumped towards the giant. Charlotte's head throbbed, this impulsive fool! The giant raised his enormous hand and swatted Beta like a fly, sending him back to the ground. Charlotte wasn't worried; Beta had thick skin and that force wouldn't do him much harm. He was knocked down due to lack of experience.
"Damn, that hurts!" Beta stood up clumsily, complaining loudly. The giant was surprised. Beta was ready to attack again, but Charlotte stopped him. In crucial moments, Beta never disobeyed Charlotte.
"What are you doing in my territory?" The giant's voice rumbled like thunder. His enormous figure was intimidating.
"We were just passing through." Charlotte responded calmly, though he was extremely alert. Giants are known for their violent temper.
"Then, let's fight first." Charlotte couldn't help feeling frustrated, but he could sense that the giant just wanted a simple fight. What a hassle! Seeing the giant's club approaching, Charlotte didn't hesitate. "Then, let's fight."
Charlotte leapt, his weapons couldn't withstand such a battle, so under Observation Haki, he dodged the blow. With an agile move, he propelled himself on the club and launched into the air. A powerful kick aimed at the giant's head, with terrifying force that buzzed. Although he still lacked mastery of Armament Haki, his physical skill was already formidable.
Boom!
With a loud crash, the giant's helmet deformed and the giant staggered back several steps. Charlotte landed gracefully. His companions cheered excitedly, "Boss Charlotte is incredible!" The giant, reeling, shook his head, surprised.
