Chapter 33: Boss, Be Careful
Chapter 33: Boss, Be Careful
Yepi had a calm expression, as if he had made a decision, and was about to speak.
Suddenly, something surprising happened.
A dark shadow high in the sky fell rapidly to the ground. With a crash, the shadow hit the ground, raising a cloud of dust.
Looking closer, it was a bird of prey completely covered in black feathers, like a giant version of a crow.
Yepi turned pale, "How is this possible?"
Seeing Yepi's reaction, Charlotte felt relieved, knowing the situation was under control.
Amazingly, the bird's body was in perfect condition, despite the impact, only feathers were scattered on the ground.
"Boss, we found Ivan."
Beta's thunderous voice echoed, approaching quickly, like a storm.
For Charlotte, this voice was music to his ears; for the first time, he found Beta's voice pleasant.
Very soon, Beta and Barrett's figures became visible, approaching.
Beta carried Ivan on his shoulder, while Barrett held an unknown person who looked like a dead dog.
"Ivan, are you okay?"
Ivan climbed down from Beta's shoulder, with red eyes, he said, "I'm sorry, boss, I caused you trouble."
He was full of remorse for his weakness.
Charlotte patted Ivan on the shoulder, trying to console him.
"We're family, Ivan. As long as you're okay, that's all that matters."
"Boss!"
Ivan, emotionally moved, felt a lump in his throat, and tears began to fill his eyes.
Seeing this, Charlotte quickly added,
"Come on, man, keep your composure."
Ivan nodded firmly, fighting back the tears, which made him look a bit comical.
"Boss, these guys were very cunning, controlling birds and hiding in the air."
Charlotte was surprised, he hadn't expected such an ingenious tactic; he had really underestimated his enemies.
"Boss, if it hadn't been for my cunning suspicion that the enemies could be in the air, we wouldn't have rescued Ivan."
Charlotte didn't discourage Beta, and he gave a thumbs up in approval.
Barrett, however, showed no compassion and commented, "If it weren't for our boss's wise judgment, would you have thought of that?"
Beta scratched his head and laughed, "That's true, the boss is first, and I'm second."
Recovered, Ivan said, "Boss, I investigated and Yepi doesn't belong to Ochoku's pirate crew, he's not one of them."
Charlotte was surprised; he hadn't expected Yepi to be a traitor, deceiving him all along.
He felt disturbed; becoming a pirate didn't bring peace.
Look, without doing anything, he was already being hunted by unknown forces.
Yepi was frozen; he wanted to flee but felt an invisible presence following him, ensuring certain death if he tried to escape.
Charlotte focused his attention on Yepi.
"Yepi, I'm sorry, there will be no cooperation."
Charlotte's calm voice gave Yepi a chilling sensation, as if he were in hell, facing a terrifying beast with pure, fierce killing intent.
Yepi was about to plead for mercy when Charlotte, in the blink of an eye, grabbed him by the neck.
Charlotte didn't want to waste more time with this guy, he used his mind-reading ability.
He wanted to know who was behind all this.
In an instant, Charlotte obtained Yepi's memories and killed him instantly.
"The Knights' Guild?"
Charlotte murmured; it was the first time he heard of this organization.
And it seemed to have some connection with the famous Knights of God.
But with a big difference.
It was a group of nobles who worshiped the Knights of God, creating an organization to show their greatness.
Out of fear of the word "God," they called themselves knights.
A repulsive purpose.
A despicable existence.
A bunch of corrupt, dreamer nobles, hidden in the shadows.
Still, their economic power was considerable and feared.
It was hard to determine the magnitude of their hidden influence.
The fact that they dared to attack someone from the Flying Pirates crew showed their audacity.
A big problem.
This kind of crazies was a real headache.
Charlotte, with a determined look, found in Yepi's memories a secret base near Ratti Island.
He had a plan in mind.
Charlotte approached Barrett, touched his shoulder to obtain his memories.
"Kill him."
Barrett nodded and finished off the unknown man.
Before leaving, Charlotte sank the whole island to ensure it.
This move left everyone speechless, exclaiming, "Boss, what caution!"
Returning to Ratti Island, everything seemed normal.
That night, Charlotte secretly left the island and returned the next day.
He brought with him numerous valuable war spoils.
Ivan didn't understand how, but he didn't ask.
Charlotte woke up satisfied.
He couldn't take on the Golden Lion Shiki, but he could handle a nobody.
He acted so secretly that no one would know he was responsible.
Among his spoils, a devil fruit was his greatest treasure.
A paramecia-type fruit, the Steel Fruit, a very good acquisition.
The user could transform parts of their body into hot steel, with armament haki their defense would be impressive.
Charlotte thought Ivan would be the right one to consume it, giving him great strength in a short time.
Since the kidnapping, Ivan had intensified his training, almost obsessively.
Although he had good intentions, Charlotte feared Ivan was overexerting himself.
This devil fruit could solve that problem, allowing Ivan to improve without rushing.
Also, the workload of the Hiberfield clan had delayed Ivan's progress, something Charlotte should have foreseen.
Giving him the fruit was a small compensation.
Decided, Charlotte instructed Beta to handle the matter.
