Chapter 85: Chapter 85: The Awakening of Conqueror's Haki
Chapter 85: The Awakening of Conqueror's Haki
In the square, the eerie silence lasted for a few seconds before being shattered by an angry roar.
"What are you talking about, Boss Shane?!" a captain yelled, gritting his teeth. "Are you saying you still see us as enemies? Don't forget, you just killed a Marine Vice Admiral! The World Government is going to put a bounty on your head! Stop acting so high and mighty!"
"That's right! We should be on the same side now! You won't even let us loot, and you're still going on about your old reputation! Don't you think you're overdoing the act?!" another pirate captain chimed in.
"An act? High and mighty? Since when did pirates get so good at throwing labels around?"
Shane raised an eyebrow, his index finger lifting slightly. "Listen up, you trash. The Marines I killed deserved to die. And you? You're just another pack of hyenas that deserves to die!"
Vwoom!
The moment he finished speaking, a powerful shockwave erupted from his fingertip.
Flying Finger Pistol!
The two pirate captains who had questioned him didn't even have time to react before their heads exploded, leaving two headless corpses on the ground.
Thump!
Shane then leaped down from the execution platform, landing in the square and startling the surrounding pirates.
Looking at the corpses on the ground, the pirates swallowed hard, staring at him timidly, unsure whether to run or fight.
"Hey, Kuina," Shane said, ignoring the rabble and turning his gaze to a certain spot.
"I'm here, Captain!" the young swordswoman immediately raised her hand in response.
"Back at the café, you kept asking me what my dream was, right?"
He looked around, at the rubble and the cannonball fragments.
"Now seems like a good time to answer you!"
"Huh?" Kuina was surprised. "Now? Right here?"
BOOM!
Just then, a bolt of lightning split the clouds.
The pale light illuminated Shane's sharp profile, his black hair whipping wildly in the wind. A savage grin spread across his face.
"Of course! It has to be in front of this world-famous execution platform!"
He bent down, his five fingers digging into the stone base of the platform. The gray stone groaned under his palm.
The execution platform, which had stood unshaken for eighteen years of wind and rain, was now, under the dumbfounded gazes of the crowd, rumbling as it was lifted from the ground!
"Eighteen years ago, the Great Pirate Era began right here! And you guys, you all came here on a pilgrimage because of it…"
"Don't make me laugh, Roger!!!"
With a roar, the execution platform was completely lifted from the ground. With just one hand, he hoisted it onto his shoulder.
"Luring a bunch of idiots to sea to kill each other over some treasure, dangling the so-called 'Great Treasure' in front of everyone like a piece of meat to make them tear each other apart like wild dogs! The common people scrape together enough money to pay the Heavenly Tribute, only to be plundered by trash like you! What's so great about this damn era?!!!"
His roar exploded through the curtain of rain, making the very air tremble.
"If you really want to change something, then do it yourself! Starting this Great Pirate Era and then just waiting for decades for some so-called 'destined child,' what the hell is that?!"
"If you feel oppressed, then go after the ones who are oppressing you! You become a Marine, but you act like a dog, kowtowing to your masters! You become a pirate, but you go around looting and killing, bullying those weaker than you! What kind of damn logic is that?!!"
The square was dead silent.
All the pirates were like strangled ducks, staring blankly up at the execution platform and the figure holding it.
"This world has never needed a Pirate King! And it certainly doesn't need so many arrogant fools looking down on everyone!!!"
"Roger started the Great Pirate Era and made the world an even worse place! But the world was already sick of this shit long before that!"
"So, my dream is to be the one who brings this damn era to an end! And while I'm at it, I'm going to take this shitty Great Pirate Era—"
"—AND SHOVE IT BACK INTO ROGER'S COFFIN!!!"
Shane suddenly threw the execution platform from his shoulder.
The platform, which weighed several tons, was now like a cannonball, whistling as it flew toward the sea!
VWOOM—
Watching the execution platform fly into the distance, Shane spread his arms wide, a savage grin on his face, his white teeth bared. A terrifying, invisible shockwave suddenly erupted from him!
Conqueror's Haki!
Massive bolts of black lightning flashed across the sky. The entire town of Loguetown flickered in and out of darkness. A fierce wind kicked up, sending bricks and stones flying, and the clouds above began to churn and roil!
The pirates in the square were suddenly hit by a wave of dizziness. Like stalks of wheat being cut down, they collapsed in droves.
The few who remained conscious fell to their knees, their teeth chattering. They looked in horror at their comrades, who were foaming at the mouth and collapsing to the ground. Then, they looked back at the spot where the execution platform had stood—
The black-haired young man was just standing there, but it was as if he was about to pull the entire sky down!
…
In the distance, Nojiko, Nami, Kuina, and the others looked up at the bizarre and terrifying celestial phenomenon, their faces filled with shock.
"D-Did my brother do that?" Nami stammered, swallowing hard. "Just by stating his dream? I mean, I was pretty fired up listening to it, but… but how did he do that?"
"It's Conqueror's Haki," Zeff's voice came from the side. The old man looked at the figure in the storm with a complex expression and said softly, "Perhaps I should have expected it… Our captain is a man who possesses the disposition of a king, something only one in several million is born with."
To be the one who brings the era to an end?
To end the Great Pirate Era?
To pull all those arrogant bastards in the heavens down from their thrones?
Heh, he really has the guts to say it. A dream like that is far more outrageous than finding the All Blue…
Conqueror's Haki? Is that a type of Haki too? Nami's head was full of questions.
But it certainly looked powerful. She looked at the pirates who had collapsed all over the square, her eyes filled with envy.
"Wow, that's my brother for you! Dammit, I want to learn that ability too! To be able to make so many people collapse just by waving your hand, no Devil Fruit can compare to that!"
"Conqueror's Haki is something you're born with. Not just anyone can learn it," Zeff said, shaking his head. He recalled certain scenes he had witnessed in the past and compared them to what he was seeing now, his awe growing. "You may not know this, but even among those with the disposition of a king, the power they display upon their first awakening can vary greatly."
"So what about my brother?" Nojiko asked curiously. "How does his awakening rank? Is it powerful?"
"I've never seen anything more outrageous," Zeff said, smacking his lips. "And the most terrifying thing is, this is his first awakening. In theory, he shouldn't be able to control it. But look, the only ones who have passed out in the square are the pirates. Not just us, but even the civilians who are hiding on the sides haven't been affected at all."
It's true…
Kuina followed the old man's gaze, her heart filled with wonder.
As expected of Lord Shane…
The crew was so engrossed in their conversation, their attention completely focused on the scene before them, that none of them noticed the tall, white-haired figure with Seastone handcuffs on his wrists, standing in the ruins not far from them.
He was also staring blankly in the direction of the execution platform, as still as a statue, and had been for a long, long time…
