Chapter 33: Chapter 33
Nami stared fixedly at the space across from her. However, ever since she shouted the name "Mad Treasure," there had been no reaction at all from the other side.
There were no follow-up attacks, nor did anyone move closer to Genrou.
"Nami, that Mad Treasure you mentioned doesn't seem interested in acknowledging you at all."
Genrou turned his head and spoke to Nami with interest.
"Damn you, Mad Treasure! Since you refuse to show yourself, I'll force you out!"
"Card Magic—Flames, Lightning, Wind Blades, Water Flow…"
With a fierce expression, Nami flung out several magic cards, summoning elemental forces to attack the sea in front of her.
Since her attack wasn't aimed at where Mad Treasure might be hiding but rather directly at the sea surface, those in hiding—including Mad Treasure—weren't able to fully intercept it in time.
The power of magic caused the seawater to rise up high, forming a series of cascading curtains that splashed down onto the ship where Mad Treasure was hiding.
These cascading water curtains finally allowed Nami and the others to catch sight of the opposing vessel.
"Mad Treasure, still not coming out? As long as these water curtains are falling, your ship can't remain hidden!"
A confident smile curled on Nami's lips—she was clearly satisfied with the result of her first time using magic.
"Cancel the invisibility, Psycho-P. We can't keep hiding in this state. Your power doesn't seem to work on that man either."
With a raspy voice sounding out, a large ship gradually came into view in front of Genrou and the others.
"So it really is you, Mad Treasure!"
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"And Karina—what did you do to Karina?!"
Nami glared at Mad Treasure with a tense expression.
Long ago, Nami and Karina had partnered as petty thieves on the seas. One day, they ran into Mad Treasure and his crew of treasure hunters.
At that time, Karina had drawn Mad Treasure away to protect Nami.
It was impossible for Nami not to worry about Karina, but due to the situation with the Arlong Pirates and her hometown, she hadn't had the time to search for information about her.
Now that she'd encountered Mad Treasure again, Nami finally couldn't hold back and voiced the question she'd long buried in her heart.
"We meet again, Little Cat Burglar. Who would've thought we'd run into each other under these circumstances?"
"Even though our target is that man."
"As for that Karina... what do you think happens to someone who deceives me?"
Mad Treasure made a throat-slitting gesture at Nami, then turned his gaze to Genrou.
Beside Mad Treasure, the man bundled in a thick down coat with a duckbill cap and the woman with a flushed face and a bow in her hand also locked their eyes on Genrou.
"You bastard! You dare kill Karina?! I'll never forgive you!"
Nami roared in fury and was about to attack Mad Treasure again.
"Nami, calm down. I can sense others' emotions to some extent using my Kenbunshoku Haki (Observation Haki), and I've also studied body language extensively due to my past profession."
"When that guy mentioned Karina just now, he clearly showed signs of lying. The Karina you're talking about—she's most likely still alive."
Genrou placed a hand on Nami's shoulder to stop her.
No kidding—he knew the story inside and out. Of course he knew Karina's fate.
"Whew… Thank you, Genrou. I lost my cool just now."
Nami exhaled and, thanks to Genrou's words, finally regained her composure.
More importantly, she was willing to trust Genrou's deduction.
"Kenbunshoku Haki? I've heard of that power. It's supposed to enhance one's perception."
"Genrou, is that how you detected my transparency ability?"
Psycho-P frowned, staring at Genrou with apprehension.
No surprise there—this was the first time in the East Blue he had met someone who could see through his ability. Deep down, he was already starting to regard Genrou as someone that needed to be eliminated.
"That's right. I sensed your approach using Kenbunshoku Haki."
"By the way, since I've answered your question, let me ask you one."
"I heard you say you came here specifically to find me. Can I ask why?"
"After all, we've never met, and we have no connection—right?"
Genrou looked curiously at the treasure hunters.
"Hehehe… I just heard that the man who stole the Celestial Dragons' treasure had come to the East Blue, and I happen to be very interested in that treasure myself—so I came looking for you."
"What I didn't expect was to find you so soon… and also run into the little cat burglar who once tricked me."
"This works out great—now I can settle both matters at once."
Mad Treasure let out a loud laugh and casually flung two chains toward Genrou and Nami.
