One Piece: From Ninja To Pirates

Chapter 54: Revoking the Devil Fruit User

After some explanation, Garp finally understood what was going on with this adorable little creature.

"Ahahaha, so it's a Ship Spirit?" Garp laughed heartily. "That's really..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Garp suddenly realized what he had just heard. His eyes bulged in shock, and snot sprayed out of his nose.

"A... Ship Spirit?!"

"WHAAAT?!"

Garp stared at Merry in disbelief, while the Marines outside were equally stunned.

They never expected the legendary Ship Spirit to actually exist—and to be this cute?!

"What, you old geezer, got a problem with that?" Merry said.

Clearly, she had no fondness for someone who tried to bully her friends.

"Of course not."

Having recovered from his shock, Garp chuckled. "It's just my first time seeing a Ship Spirit, so I'm a little surprised."

He had only ever heard of them in legends—who had ever seen a living Ship Spirit before? But this little girl was so adorable...

Garp stared at Merry, who was glaring at him with puffed cheeks, when an idea suddenly popped into his head.

"Hey, little girl, how about becoming my granddaughter?" Garp said.

His grandsons were nothing but troublemakers. If he could have a sweet granddaughter, he'd probably wake up laughing in his sleep.

"WHAAAT?!"

Everyone gaped at Garp, clearly not expecting the old man to say something like that. What kind of thought process led to that question?

"Who wants to be your granddaughter?" Merry said, looking at him with disdain.

What was wrong with this old man? Who just goes around asking people to be their granddaughter out of the blue?

At that, Merry glanced at Luffy, her eyes practically saying: Hey, Luffy, aren't you gonna do something about your grandpa? He's out here collecting granddaughters.

"Being my granddaughter comes with a lot of perks," Garp coaxed. "Like joining me as a Mari—"

"Hey, Gramps!" Luffy immediately cut him off. "You can't just steal my crewmate!"

Luffy glared at Garp. If it weren't for the fact that this was his grandfather, he would've already lost his temper.

Merry was someone Meiser had gone through great lengths to save. Now someone was trying to take her away? Even if it was his grandpa, Luffy wouldn't stand for it.

"Old man, that's not a funny joke," Meiser said, frowning at Garp.

He still remembered how Merry had looked back then. Now this old man wanted to snatch her away?

Not happening.

"I'm not joking. I really do like this little girl," Garp said.

That wasn't a lie—she was just too endearing. If she really became his granddaughter, he could brag about it to that bastard Sengoku.

The thought alone made Garp grin, as if he could already see Sengoku's furious face.

(Garp, you bastard! How do you get to have such an adorable granddaughter?!)

Meiser: "..."

Watching Garp chuckle to himself like an idiot, Meiser wondered if the man had lost his mind.

"If you're really trying to take her, don't blame me for what happens next."

"Oh?" Garp snapped out of his thoughts and said, "You want to fight this old man?"

"That depends on your attitude."

Garp didn't respond, just stared at Meiser, who met his gaze unflinchingly, eventually even activating his Sharingan.

"So these are the legendary Blood Eyes..."

"What do you mean?"

Instead of explaining, Garp turned to Merry and said, "Don't worry, little girl. I won't bully him. You can put that hammer away."

The little girl had pulled out her hammer again, clearly intending to use it on him, which left Garp somewhat exasperated.

Such an adorable little girl—why was she playing with hammers?

"Good that you know your place." Merry snorted and put away her small hammer.

Then Merry noticed the damaged wall nearby and froze.

"What happened to this wall?" She pointed at the broken section. "It was perfectly fine when the three of us left."

At her words, everyone immediately turned their eyes toward Garp.

"Staaare~"

"Huh?" Merry glared. "So it was you who broke it?"

"Ahahaha, indeed, this old man did it." Garp laughed. "But don't worry, I'll have it fixed."

"Staaare~"

Garp: "..."

"I'll go take care of it right now."

Faced with such an adorable little girl, Garp found himself unable to muster any temper.

Once outside, Garp addressed the marines. "Alright, everyone, you've got a new task."

"Yes, Vice Admiral Garp! Please give us your orders!"

"Oh, it's nothing much. Just fix the wall back there."

"Eh?!!"

The marines were dumbfounded by the absurd command.

"Why such a ridiculous order... Why did you even break it in the first place?!"

"Ahahaha, because it looked cool when I barged in like that!" Garp laughed heartily, hands on his hips.

His demeanor showed not the slightest hint of remorse.

"That's your reason...?!"

"Could you please not be so reckless, Vice Admiral Garp?!"

"If we're fixing it, you have to help too!"

"Eh... Fine."

In the end, Garp accepted their terms and returned inside with a hammer.

This turn of events genuinely surprised Meiser.

"This old man..."

Meiser watched Garp in astonishment. The geezer seemed unexpectedly easygoing—someone who could blend in with his subordinates like this had to be a decent person.

"I'll be watching you."

Merry dragged over a stool and sat not far from Garp, swinging her legs as she supervised his work.

At a glance, the scene was almost heartwarming.

Of course, it would've been better if Garp wasn't picking his nose.

"By the way, Luffy, you've met your father, right?" Garp said.

"Father?" Luffy blinked. "I have a father?"

"Obviously. Did you think you popped out of a rock or something?" Sanji deadpanned.

Aside from beings like Merry, who were born of nature itself, everyone had a father. Even he... Well, never mind. Some things were better left unmentioned.

"Oh? He didn't reveal himself to you?" Garp said in surprise. "I thought he'd met you already. He mentioned seeing you off at Loguetown."

"Loguetown?"

Luffy tilted his head, clearly not understanding what Garp meant. Meanwhile, an image surfaced in Meiser's mind.

At Loguetown, when Smoker was chasing Luffy and the others, a man with facial tattoos had blocked his path. If not for that, it would've been questionable whether Luffy's crew could have even set sail.

Was that guy Luffy's father?

But... why did those tattoos look so much like flip-flop prints? Could old man Garp have smacked him with one?

Lost in thought, Meiser pondered this.

"Who exactly is my father?"

"Ah, his name's Dragon. He's a revolutionary," Garp replied.

"WHAT?!!!"

Everyone stared at Garp in shock, especially the marines outside who were so stunned they collapsed onto their backsides, faces filled with disbelief.

Vice Admiral Garp's grandson... was actually that man's son?

"Oh, maybe I wasn't supposed to say that." Realizing his mistake, Garp scratched his head with a goofy grin. "Let's just pretend you didn't hear that last part."

"As if we could!"
