Chapter 45: Sanji's Envy
"At this distance, there shouldn't be any problems anymore," Blueno said, standing by the ship's edge.
"Even so, we can't let our guard down," Sanji remarked, lighting a cigarette. "Don't forget, that guy can freeze the entire ocean."
The memory of their last encounter with that man still haunted Sanji—it had been truly terrifying.
The moment that man activated his ability, the sea had frozen solid instantly. What kind of monstrous power was that?!
"I actually think he won't chase us anymore," Franky said.
"Why?"
"If he really wanted to pursue us, he would've frozen the sea with his ability already. Why let us get this far?"
As he spoke, Franky glanced back.
He had to admit—this ship was incredibly fast, and with the wind in their favor... even if their pursuer tried, catching up would be nearly impossible.
"Did he really give up?"
Zoro raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised that the Marine Admiral had let them escape so easily.
After all, the impact they'd made this time was enormous—they'd torn through the World Government's flag, openly challenged them, and Meiser alone had held off the Buster Call, destroying several warships single-handedly.
Under such circumstances, their enemy hadn't even pursued them?
"Is it finally over...?"
"That's great, Robin!" Nami hugged Robin tightly. "We made it out alive!!"
With the immediate danger gone, everyone finally relaxed, the tension slowly easing from their nerves.
The oppressive feeling of being hunted by an Admiral had been unbearable.
"Hey, why don't I see Usopp or Meiser?" Luffy mumbled from where he lay sprawled on the deck.
Struggling to lift his head, Luffy scanned the area but couldn't spot Meiser or Usopp anywhere.
"Hahaha! Usopp already took a small boat and left!" Usopp, now wearing a mask, laughed loudly. "Don't worry about it!"
"Oh... okay."
"Then where's Meiser?"
"Yeah, where is Meiser?" Nami asked. "Robin, you said earlier that Meiser was on the ship, but I don't see him."
"Hey!"
Sanji's expression darkened. "Don't tell me Meiser stayed behind to cover our escape..."
If that were the case, wouldn't all their efforts have been in vain?
Just after rescuing one comrade, they'd lose another?
"Is this why the Admiral didn't chase us...?"
Zoro tightened his grip on his sword, veins bulging on his arm.
"Everyone, calm down," Nico Robin said with a sigh. "Hey, Meiser, aren't you coming out yet?"
The guy had been silent ever since they escaped—she had no idea what he was playing at.
"Coming out...?"
Before Nami could finish, a scroll burst out from Robin's embrace, spinning slowly in the air.
Then—poof—the scroll transformed into Meiser himself.
"Yo, everyone's here~"
"You were the scroll?!" Nami gasped in disbelief. "How did you do that?!"
No wonder Robin had silently tucked the scroll into her clothes earlier—it had been Meiser all along?!
"It's done with the Transformation Technique," Meiser said.
"Transformation Technique..." Usopp was shocked. "Similar to that MR.2?"
They had encountered a Devil Fruit user with mimicry abilities before, but Meiser's version seemed far more advanced.
"Meiser's ability is much more powerful than that guy's," Nico Robin shook her head.
MR.2 could only copy other people's faces, but Meiser could transform into anything he wanted! The implications were completely different!
"True enough," Zoro nodded.
At the very least, that guy couldn't transform into objects. Used properly, this technique could have amazing effects!
Sanji suddenly rushed up to Meiser and grabbed his clothes excitedly. "Bastard! Where the hell did you just come from?!"
Meiser: ???
This guy was getting worked up over this?
"From Robin's embrace. What about it?"
Sanji: ...
"Dammit... I'm... so jealous..."
Letting go of Meiser, Sanji somehow produced a handkerchief to bite on, making Zoro facepalm.
"Damn perverted cook..."
"What was that, you shitty mosshead?!"
"You wanna say that again?!!"
Bam! Crash! The two immediately started fighting again, making Meiser twitch at the corner of his mouth. These guys...
"Robin!"
"Hmm?"
"Welcome back!"
Hearing Luffy's words, Nico Robin smiled and nodded, though her eyes were slightly moist.
"Meiser."
"What is it, Luffy?"
"Welcome to the crew." Luffy grinned widely. "When we get back, we're throwing a huge banquet!"
"Alright, I'm looking forward to it."
A pirate banquet... Now that sounded like fun.
"What should we do with this guy?" Usopp pointed at Blueno.
He was from Cipher Pol 9. Though temporarily controlled by Meiser, he was still an enemy they couldn't keep around forever.
"Simple." Meiser grinned. "Just kill him."
From start to finish, this Space Type Devil Fruit user had only been a tool. Once used up, he had to be disposed of.
Without another word, Meiser threw a kunai straight at Blueno! The tremendous force not only dealt a fatal wound but also sent him tumbling into the sea!
"Splash~"
The water surface rippled as the now-conscious Blueno sank into the depths.
'So this is how it ends...'
If only he'd been more careful earlier, perhaps... the outcome would have been different.
With these regrets, Blueno's consciousness faded into darkness.
Back on the Going Merry, Meiser calmly clapped his hands. "He was CP9. We couldn't just let him go."
No one objected.
"I remember that huge body of water hadn't disappeared when we left," Franky asked. "Your clone should still be there, right?"
"What happened afterward?"
"Nothing much. Just fought a Marine Admiral."
"You fought a Marine Admiral?!" Franky's eyes nearly popped out of his head.
No, what kind of monsters are these Straw Hat Pirates anyway?
"He's not some god, why can't we fight him?" Meiser retorted.
Franky: ...
That may be true, but would normal people even think of challenging a Marine Admiral?
"It's just a clone anyway. Even if it gets destroyed, it doesn't matter. It'll at least give me some experience fighting against an Admiral," Meiser said.
"So what was the result?" Usopp asked curiously.
"No idea."
"No idea?"
"Yeah. Right before my clone disappeared, I activated Lightning Release: Kirin," Meiser said, stroking his chin. "Wonder if that guy liked my little present."
With that level of Lightning Release, if it had directly hit the sea surface, few of those Marines would have survived.
"Ninjas are truly something else," Kokoro laughed heartily.
Being able to attack a Marine Admiral with ninjutsu without even being there in person—those Marines must be having quite the headache now.
"Meiser, can we learn ninjutsu too?"
"Well..." Meiser thought for a moment before answering, "Probably not."
There are many theories about the origin of Chakra—some say it comes from the God Tree's fruit, others say it originates from Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, and some claim it stems from the Sage of Six Paths.
To possess Chakra, one must at least have some direct or indirect connection to these sources.
Clearly, the people of this world don't meet that condition. Plus, the cellular composition between our worlds might be fundamentally different, so naturally, they can't learn it.
