Chapter 61: Crushed the Fish-Men -59
Arlong looked down at the two kneeling villagers, who remained silent without a single word of explanation. He let out a mocking laugh before slowly standing up.
"So, it seems you two have no intention of paying… In that case, I have no choice but to collect the debt… with your lives."
He said this as he clenched his scaly fist, ready to carry out the execution himself.
The villagers witnessed the scene—some shut their eyes, unable to bear watching, while others tried to speak but couldn't muster the courage… until two voices rang out.
"Wait!" x2
One was the guard, Arjin, and the other came from a girl with short blue hair, tanned skin, and large tattoos across her arms and chest—Nojiko, who lived outside the village and had just arrived after being summoned.
Arjin was surprised by her sudden intervention and couldn't stop her.
As for Arlong, he recognized her immediately and sneered:
"Isn't this the sister of the navigator I trust, Nami? Have you come to beg for their lives?"
Nojiko, with eyes full of resolve and restrained hatred, replied:
"No. I'm not here to beg. I know you too well—even if I did, you wouldn't show mercy."
Arlong laughed loudly: "Hahaha! That's right! I don't see humans—I see money."
He shamelessly declared his greed. To him, humans were nothing more than tools for profit.
"So? Are you here to pay their debt?"
"Not me… Nami."
At the mention of her sister, Nojiko lowered her head, overwhelmed by guilt and sorrow, and continued in a dry voice:
"Every time Nami went out to sea, she left me some money… to pay on behalf of any villager who couldn't afford to."
"But that money was never used—until recently, when the earthquakes and storms hit us, and everyone lost their livelihood. That's why I came here to pay in her stead."
The villagers were deeply moved. Those who had been unable to pay felt relieved at first—but that soon turned into guilt and frustration at themselves.
One man, middle-aged and trembling at the knees, spoke up:
"This isn't right! Nami has already suffered enough for us and the village. How can I use money she nearly died to earn?"
Then he turned to Arlong and shouted:
"Kill me, Arlong! I'm a grown man—I can't allow a girl like Nami to worry about things like this! Take my life! The men of Cocoyasi Village are not cowards!"
He stood tall, chest puffed out, ready to die.
Another young man stepped forward and added:
"He's right! While we were living safely here, Nami was out there fighting dangerous pirates all by herself!"
"Take my life too, if you must!"
Nojiko froze in place, then screamed:
"You fools! What are you saying?! Don't betray Nami's intentions!"
But the two men stood their ground:
"Enough, Nojiko. This is the decision of real men. Thank Nami on our behalf."
At that moment, Arlong was stunned.
"I didn't expect you all to know about my deal with Nami…"
One of the men, tears streaming down his face, said:
"We knew from the start… that foolish girl. Even though I was harsh and pushed her away so many times… she kept thinking of us…"
"How could I accept her kindness? How can I live with this guilt?"
Then he shouted at Arlong:
"You're a mad beast! A greedy liar!"
And the other yelled:
"You with your ugly, sharp nose! You always say humans are inferior—but you're the most despicable one of all!"
Their words enraged Arlong.
"You filthy humans!!!"
He roared in fury. His veins bulged beneath his blue skin, and his eyes glowed blood-red.
The man braced himself for death, closing his eyes.
But suddenly, one of Arlong's subordinates came running and shouted:
"Lord Arlong! A disaster! That man… the one known as the God of Destruction… he's coming! And he brought Nami with him!"
Even Arlong, in the peak of his rage, was stunned when he heard the name.
"What?! How does she know someone like that?!"
The subordinate, panting, added:
"I saw Nami disembark from the ship with him—they're on their way here!"
Panic spread among the pirates. They rushed about, unsure what to do.
The villagers, unaware of what was happening, exchanged confused glances.
"Who is this person that's scaring them so much?"
At the coast, Nami stood beside Peter as the ship docked, staring sorrowfully at the ruins that once were her village.
Peter noticed her expression and smirked mockingly:
"What's wrong? You have a problem with me?"
Nami quickly shook her head. "No, no, not at all!"
"Good." He looked at the destruction, scratching his head.
"Ugh, how annoying. The whole port's ruined. Will this happen to the other harbors too? Docking ships is going to be a problem."
Hina, with her pink hair and formal suit, couldn't take it anymore after all that had happened. She shouted angrily:
"Do you realize what you've caused?! Hina thinks the entire East Blue has suffered because of you!"
"Thank goodness it happened during the day—otherwise, there would've been massacres while people were sleeping!"
Peter responded coldly:
"It's not like I knew this world was so fragile! That was my first time trying the Galick Gun. If I'd been just a bit stronger, this planet would've exploded!"
Hina was barely holding herself back. She knew Peter was strong, handsome, even kind at times… but his indifference to human lives was something she could never accept.
Even Vivi, Carina, and Mikita had their own reservations—but they chose not to interfere.
As for Robin, she had witnessed so many tragedies that she considered incidents like this "insignificant."
Peter calmly said:
"Enough emotions, Hina… instead of mourning the dead, think about those who are about to die."
He looked toward the village center, sensing the trapped souls of the villagers.
"What?!" Nami gasped, realizing what he meant, and immediately ran toward the village.
"That idiot…" Hina muttered, before vanishing in quick steps to follow her.
Robin remained beside Peter and asked:
"Are we going to help? Will Hina be okay?"
"No need. I'll go after her. You girls head to Arlong's den. Take everything valuable from there."
"Understood."
Robin nodded, then left with Carina, Mikita, and Vivi toward the park.
Peter, meanwhile, entered Cocoyasi Village on his own.
Arlong and his men were in disarray—some wanted to flee, others still clung to their belief in Fish-Man superiority.
"Silence, you cowards!" Arlong shouted.
"We are Fish-Men! Beings that live 10,000 meters under the sea! Afraid of a tailed human? I—AAGH!!"
Before he could finish, he was struck by a beam of light—his sharp nose shattered, blood streaming down his face!
From a distance, at the end of the street, Peter stood with his arms crossed, his expression dark:
"A bug like you dares to talk about me?"
Then he leapt into the air, heading toward the center of the village.
Nami had just arrived and saw Arlong writhing in pain. She froze.
"He's strong… I knew he was strong… but this strong?!"
In that moment, all her fear, worry, and lingering doubt vanished from her heart.
Then Hina appeared beside Arlong and, with her high heels, stomped on his face.
"Hina wants you dead, you bastard!"
Arlong and his crew were sent flying dozens of meters and crashed to the ground.
The villagers opened their eyes in utter shock—they couldn't comprehend what had just happened until they saw the pink-haired girl standing where Arlong once stood!
