Chapter 106: Chapter 106 : Smog, You Are Also Taking Great Pains
Law and the others were already bewildered by the unexpected turn of events.
The Straw Hats had not only knowingly hired an undercover agent but had even officially given her the title of "undercover agent."
This bizarre behavior continuously challenged the Heart Pirates' understanding of how pirate crews should operate. Yet, it also made them respect the Straw Hats' carefree and fearless attitude—as if the Marine's elaborate conspiracies were nothing but amusing jokes to them.
Smoker felt the same way, and he wasn't entirely pleased about it.
Nevertheless, he quickly said, "Straw Hat, I'll leave this girl in your care. If she suffers any mistreatment, I, Smoker, will risk my life to make you pay!"
"Smoker-san..."
Tashigi couldn't help but feel touched.
She knew Smoker had been acting earlier when they first arrived, but these words weren't part of any act. She could sense the genuine concern in his voice.
She bowed to Luffy again. "Thank you, Captain Luffy! From now on, I'll be in your care, Captain and everyone!"
Luffy smiled broadly and nodded. "Sure thing! I hope you'll do a great job as our undercover agent!"
Tashigi was left speechless, unsure how to respond to that.
However, she had successfully completed her mission of joining the Straw Hat Pirates.
Seeing that everything was settled, Smoker mounted his motorbike. Suddenly, he heard something whistling through the air and quickly reached out to catch it—only to discover it was his jitte.
Carl had actually returned his weapon?
Carl laughed. "Smoker, you went to great lengths for this, didn't you? You pretended to arrest Tashigi and let her escape, but then you brought her here yourself because you were worried she might be mistreated by us. Though you're a reckless guy, you're a good big brother. No wonder Tina likes you."
"I told you, Tina and I are not—"
"Smoker-san, remember to invite me to your wedding with Tina-san!"
Before he could defend himself against Tashigi's shout, Smoker nearly fell off his motorbike.
He gave Tashigi a hard glare before roaring away on his vehicle.
Everyone burst into laughter at Smoker's embarrassed departure, even Tashigi couldn't hold back. She didn't quite understand why, but since arriving with the Straw Hats, she felt strangely more relaxed.
Zoro glanced at Tashigi and snorted, seemingly in a bad mood.
But the swordsman couldn't hide the slight upward curl of his lips.
Carl noticed the three swords—Shigure, Snowfall, and Floral Dawn—at Tashigi's waist. He immediately smiled and pushed her to stand next to Zoro.
"Perfect! Don't move—I'll take a picture of the two Three-Sword users," Carl said, pulling out his camera.
"Three-Sword Style?"
Zoro was taken aback. He immediately noticed Tashigi's three swords and growled, "You impostor! First, you pretend to be Kuina, and now you're imitating me?"
Tashigi shot back, "Who's pretending to be you? I was expelled from the Marines, so of course I brought all my swords—I just happen to have three!"
"Don't think carrying three swords makes you a Three-Sword Style user. You don't have the strength for it!"
"I'm not claiming to use Three-Sword Style! I only use one sword when fighting!"
"You impostor!"
"I am who I am, not whoever you see in your mind!"
As the two argued, Carl nodded approvingly, his camera continuously clicking, capturing images of their animated confrontation. The pictures looked surprisingly affectionate despite the heated exchange.
Robin stood behind him, chuckling at the scene. "Carl is quite amusing."
Carl shrugged. "Sometimes it gets boring on the ship. Taking out these photos to look at helps pass the time. It's fun to put together a sailing journal with a photo album—you can revisit the memories whenever you want."
"Now that you mention it, I'm curious," Robin said.
She went to the cabin and brought out the sailing journal and photo album, sitting next to Marie.
Marie handed her a cup of tea, and Robin opened the album. The two looked through it together, occasionally bursting into laughter.
Nami and Luffy came over to join them.
Although they had seen the photos before, looking at them alone was completely different from viewing them with others. It was like watching a movie—you might enjoy it at home by yourself, but watching with a group amplified the emotions as they were shared and transmitted between people.
Soon, waves of laughter echoed from the Going Merry.
Law glanced at the Merry, then asked, "Bepo, do we have a sailing journal?"
Bepo scratched his head. "Captain, we have medical records."
Law: "...Shouldn't we have a voyage journal, regardless? Otherwise, after we've sailed around the world, won't all our experiences be as if they never happened?"
Bepo: "Captain, we do have a voyage journal, but it's my personal diary. You usually don't pay attention to these things, so I thought it wasn't necessary, but I've been recording it quietly anyway."
Law immediately declared, "Bepo, your diary will now be our official sailing journal!"
Bepo collapsed in dismay. "No, Captain! That's my private diary!"
However, Bepo's objection was overruled. After all, not everyone keeps a diary, and it seemed even more unusual for a polar bear to maintain one. Therefore, his personal diary was confiscated to serve as the Heart Pirates' official nautical journal, with Bepo continuing as its designated writer.
Bepo briefly considered jumping ship to join the Straw Hats.
By noon, Vivi's public address was about to begin.
The Straw Hats and the Heart Pirates waited on the shore. As time passed, everyone grew increasingly anxious.
"Hey, Mr. Carl, isn't there any way for Vivi to come with us?" Luffy couldn't help asking.
"Well, Vivi is a princess with her own responsibilities, so it's probably impossible to take her away," Carl shook his head, but suddenly changed the subject. "But I once heard a story called 'A Raccoon Dog for a Prince,' where they stole the prince and replaced him with a raccoon dog so no one would notice."
A raccoon dog for a prince?
In an instant, everyone turned to look at Chopper.
Perhaps it was actually possible—why not just replace the princess with a raccoon dog?
Chopper immediately frowned. "I told you I'm not a raccoon dog! I'm a reindeer, a reindeer, a REINDEER! Important things must be said three times!"
"Oh, it was a reindeer all along."
Everyone turned away nonchalantly, their gazes drifting toward Alubarna.
Chopper wanted to cry, feeling utterly betrayed by his crewmates.
At that moment, a familiar voice spread throughout Alabasta—it was Vivi's public address. Her words were transmitted across the country via Den Den Mushi, reaching the Straw Hats on the shore.
Vivi spoke about her adventures, her solid voice occasionally breaking with emotion.
Meanwhile, on the podium in the royal capital, Igaram dressed in princess attire was dancing, immediately drawing the ire of the citizens.
Here, on the riverbank, Vivi appeared riding on Karoo.
