Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Arrogant beyond belief
Every year, new Supernovas enter the New World, and without fail, there are always some reckless upstart pirate crews who believe themselves invincible. They charge ahead without even mastering Haki, only to challenge the ruling pirate crews.
Without exception, they either flee in defeat, crippled or dead, or they surrender on the spot, pledging allegiance to the dominant pirate factions.
Only those who understand the landscape of the New World, who bide their time and build their strength in the shadows, have a chance to rise above the rest. These are the ones who make their mark, growing strong enough to challenge even the ruling pirate crews and become legitimate contenders for dominance.
But there are exceptions. Take Rocks, for example—he carved his path through relentless battles, always fighting to grow stronger. Yet, he was careful to avoid direct clashes with the ruling factions, instead using conflict to hone himself. By the time the other great pirate crews noticed him, he had already reached their level. With his forces bolstered and his strength unmatched, he ultimately crushed the old rulers and became a legendary New World pirate—the new overlord of the seas.
"Ohoho~ So according to you, the longer you stay in the New World, the stronger you get? In that case, I should just ask a pirate's age before fighting them! If older means stronger, what's the point of having geniuses?!"
A true genius defies expectations, breaking through barriers and reaching heights in mere years that others take decades to achieve.
"Gihahaha! Such arrogance! I've killed at least thirty, if not fifty, upstart Supernovas like you! The ones who survived now serve under the Vesper Pirates!"
Orion reveled in crushing naive young pirates, enjoying the moment their arrogance turned into sheer terror when faced with the true strength of the New World. Watching them go from brash and overconfident to desperate and broken was his favorite spectacle.
Since the Hell Pirates had walked right into their hands, he decided he would claim this Golden Ark for himself. But first, he had to deal with Ochoku.
"Orion, you focus on Ochoku! I'll take care of the Hell Pirates myself!"
Jevalle straightened his back, brimming with confidence. Initially, he had assumed the Hell Pirates would team up with Ochoku's group to take on the Vesper Pirates.
For a while, he thought their bounties were just the result of killing a Celestial Dragon, but after sensing their presence—and seeing the infamous Charlotte Linlin—he knew better than to underestimate them.
Still, as a member of a ruling pirate crew, Jevalle had his own pride. Today, he would defeat the Hell Pirates single-handedly and show them the might of the Vesper Pirates!
"Gurararara~ Your opponent is me!"
Edward Newgate stepped forward, eyes burning with battle spirit. If he could take Jevalle down, his own bounty might finally rival that of Redfield and the other top dogs.
"Hah! You've got to be kidding me! Who the hell are you? Some no-name small fry?! I said I'm going to take down ALL of you, not just one!"
Jevalle sneered at the towering figure before him. A no-name giant dared challenge him? It was insulting!
Even Ochoku raised an eyebrow at the sheer audacity of the Hell Pirates. He had assumed they would send someone to hold off Orion, but instead, they were picking fights with everyone? Were they insane?
"Oi, Ochoku, was it? This lord challenges you to a duel!"
Redfield drew his sword and pointed it directly at Ochoku, who had been shaking his head in disbelief.
A duel? That was ridiculous. Duels were for the weak challenging the strong. Redfield didn't consider himself any weaker than Ochoku.
"What? You want to fight me?!"
Ochoku could hardly believe his ears. The Hell Pirates had a strategist, sure, but did they really have another powerhouse? Even after suffering from that indiscriminate attack earlier, he hadn't expected them to take on two ruling pirate crews at once.
"Gihahaha! You're not just arrogant—you're arrogant beyond belief!"
Even Orion had assumed the Hell Pirates would temporarily ally with Ochoku to take him down first. Instead, they were trying to fight both factions at once!
He had originally planned to eliminate Ochoku first and then deal with the Hell Pirates, but now, things were getting interesting.
Ochoku's face darkened. He hadn't anticipated this level of recklessness. If he let this go on, Orion would seize the perfect opportunity to strike him down. This was dangerous. He had two choices—kill Redfield instantly and focus on Orion, or consider retreating. He had underestimated his opponent, and the gap between him and Orion was still significant.
...
On the other side, Jevalle had already made his move against Newgate. He wasn't about to tolerate some unknown fighter standing in his way. He would finish him off in one strike!
Jevalle's rapier, coated in Armament Haki, cut through the air, producing a shockwave as it traveled. His bounty wasn't inflated—every bit of it had been earned through bloodshed.
"Gurarara~ Bring it on!"
'Quake Fist!'
Newgate's right hand glowed with white energy as he launched his fist toward Jevalle's incoming strike. A powerful explosion rocked the battlefield, the clash of Haki sending shockwaves through the air.
Both fighters' hair blew back from the impact. Jevalle's rapier began to bend slightly under the immense force, while bursts of compressed air exploded outward from the point of contact.
The sheer force of their clash sent a powerful gust through the area, causing nearby onlookers' clothes to ripple violently in the wind.
"He actually blocked it?!"
Both Orion and Ochoku were taken aback. Moments ago, Silver Axe had been completely toyed with by Jevalle, left covered in wounds. But now, this unknown giant had withstood Jevalle's attack head-on.
Where had the Hell Pirates found this monster?
"Enough watching. Let's fight!"
Redfield swung his sword, the very blade that had once belonged to Brook. Now renamed, his weapon crackled with electricity as he closed the distance between himself and Ochoku in an instant, striking like a lightning bolt.
"You actually dared to attack!"
Ochoku grinned, bloodlust flashing in his eyes. His injuries were nothing—he wouldn't be humiliated by the likes of Redfield.
Crossing his twin swords in a defensive stance, he infused them with Armament Haki to block the incoming strike. Sparks flew as the blades met, lightning dancing between them.
"Trying to finish me off quickly so you can focus on Orion, huh?"
Ochoku had a slight edge over Redfield, but he could still read the intent behind his attack. His unique Observation Haki wasn't as precise as seeing the future, but it was just as dangerous.
Against a top-tier swordsman wielding Armament Haki, even a Logia user couldn't afford to be careless. Elementalization alone wouldn't be enough—one misstep, and he would be cut down in an instant.
